What if the next major villain was...Celestia?

Might be a bit too complicated for youngsters. But I don't think it would be interesting if Celestia became evil just because she was possessed by magic. I think it would be a better idea that Celestia became against the Mane Six only because the Mane Six believed certain actions must be taken but Celestia has become frightful for the safety of the ponies that she wouldn't take risks for her subjects so she's on the same side but not allowing the Mane Six to go out and fight.

Anyone else think it would be hillarious if Celestia "played" tyrant just so see Twilight's true abilities because im sure if the princess were to have a friendly duel with Twilight then Twilight would want to hold back, So to get Twilight to use her full potential she would play tyrant or something and at the end Celestia reveals shes just been trolling with them as always :P .

Sure it would be realllllly interesting seeing Celestia becoming a Villain. But as lots of ponies said in this thread.

It wouldn't just work that she became a villain as she is the rules of Equestria.

There is only one way maybe of Celestia becoming a villain. That would be if she got way to power-hungry.

Reminds me of the star trek episode where star fleet command was infiltrated by those parasite things that took over all of the top leadership and then data saw the changes in how ships were being moved etc. Taking over Celestia by any method would be one of the easiest ways to bring Equestria to its knees.

I don't think it'll happen. She's the guide, the mentor, and the mother figure in the group.

And what usually ends up happening to mentors? Obi Wan? Dumbledore? Zordon?

While I don't think she'll turn evil or anything (at least not of her own free will), there could very well come a time when the mane six find themselves without Celestia's guidance for a prolonged period of time (and I don't just mean one or two episodes). This has the potential for some great episodes where the mane six have no mentor figure to fall back on and have to rely on each other to overcome the obstacles they face.

I'm liking this idea, a lot! But, I do have to admit, it would be awfully hard to pull off. I think that the most plausible and logical way that it could ever happen would be if Celestia were to be unknowingly possessed by some kind of evil entity or spirit, demon-like even. If that were to happen, it would have to be an awfully powerful spirit to be able to control her, but she could certainly do some major damage in the event that that ever happened.

The only other way that I can possibly imagine it would work would be if Celestia were put under a spell or curse by some magic wielder like Queen Chrysalis or King Sombra, but again, it would have to be one heck of a curse to control her! Still, if this ever were to happen, it'd be bucking epic!!! B)

What usually happens to mentors like Obi-wan and Dumbledore (no clue who Zordon is)? They die. They don't become villains. Their students, Anakin and Tom Riddle, became villains. As awesome as it sounds, we're not talking about villain Twilight Sparkle. Edited by Aquila

No. But if you want to know who Zordon is, he's the floating head (how else can anyone describe him) from the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

Anyway, the point I would make is that there usually comes a time when the main characters find themselves without the guidance of their mentor figure, and it's usually for a long period of time (at least a full season). During this time, the characters grow in a different way, as they are forced to rely on one another, instead of seeking advice and guidance from the mentor figure. This has happened in nearly every series that has a character like that.

Idea for a series finale: Celestia becomes Daymare Sun and the mane 6 and Luna have to stop her before she uses the power of the sun to burn Equestria to ashes.

At the end of the episode:

"Dear Twilight, [moral about being corrupted by power]...your faithful teacher, Princess Celestia."

And roll the credits.

I must say this is an interesting thread. Although it seems that every pony has both an intrigue in the idea but also that fore thought to actually consider what would make Celestia like that in first place. But if you were trying to watch over the land and it grew to a point where no one believed in you. What would you do or how would you react? With love and compassion still or would you want to throw in the towel and say "Fine. Think you can do better? I'll take my favorite people and leave. Then i'll come back in 1000 years and see how things have progressed along." I don't see Celestia out right being a harbinger of death as she's aware there's enough negative polarity and doesn't need to add her own.

I've actually been running this idea around in my head for sometime now, and while I'll admit it would be rather interesting it would also be rather difficult and delicate to pull off while still making it believable. Were it be made into an episode (or movie!), the theme I've come up with would be more a focus on Twilight and how she deals with this rather than Celestia becoming evil. How would Twilight react to having to face down her mentor, especially if she had to use the Elements? In both cases when the elements were used, it was in a situation where Twilight and the others had no qualms about unleashing the power of harmony. But here I could sense Twilight being rather reluctant, if not downright refusing to use them for fear of harming Celestia. Would the elements even work at all under such apprehension?

The context of my thought in regards to this is simple. Twilight although can make up her own mind and come to her own decisions still needs someone to look up to. Technically speaking, the universe is about balance, and therefore, Celestia knowing that she is Twilight's mentor would only turn evil if the day would come that Twilights magic would match Celestia's. But that would only happen if there wasn't a force already out there that would match Twilights magic ability. As mentor, it's the choices and lessens of the leadership that actually teach students more then anything else. Which would also mean the Celestia's personal choice to stay good could also be because of her love and wish for Twilight to be of greatness and aspire to be even better then Celestia.

It would be interesting, but I don't think it could actually happen.

How would Celestia, the wise and loving godess of the sun turn evil?

She has too much love.

Because she wouldn't turn evil for the sake of turning evil nor will she go against her ideals so easily.

You know what I think, I think she could probably turn "evil" for the sake of Twilight and her friends going through a test in which they would learn (albeit harshly) about what an evil dictator or something could do, not unlike, say, Sombra himself (ironically, that's the episode that will be aired tomorrow).

I thought of this before and it seems like a pretty good idea.

If the Queen was able to defeat Celestia.....what could happen if the Queen and Discord came back and meant business...

Twilight would probably have to go in an all-out battle with Celestia if this happens.

The ideas of Celestia pretending to be evil in order to teach Twilight are excellent. It can absolutely work in the show. Here is an angle I have (it will sound minutely similar to the first Discord episode but here it goes): Let's say someone (like King Sombra) puts the idea in Twilight's head that Celestia will end up like him, either directly by flat out saying it, or indirectly by her uncovering that he had very similar traits to her before he corrupted/went evil (with the assumption that he wasn't "born evil"). Of course Celestia would not end up like that, as I pretty much agree that she is the ultimate source of love and purity on the show. However Twilight might start to think with poor interpretations of some of Celestia's actions, and maybe temporarily lose faith or hesitate or something.

By the way, an interesting "element of disharmony" would be doubt, which in my opinion would clash with overwhelmingly the element of magic, as you have to believe in order to use it.

I'm not a huge fan of Celestia, but I'm enjoying the theory that she could pretend to be evil to test Twilight.

Perhaps we'd see her in a Nightmare Moon-like form.

The legend of...SOLAR FLARE.

Twillight will probably go super depressed again like she was in The return of harmony II... I don't find that interesting to watch, just plainly annoying.

Celestia's dark side would be called Nightmare Flare or something to that effect. It represents her "fiery" attitude when transformed.

The mind of the host will desperately try to create memories where none exist. Simple right?

There's already a fanon "Nightmare Celestia" character. Her name is usually "Corona Blaze" (although I think "flare" has been used as well).

I think all those powerful in magic have darksides. Luna is powerful, and she was brought to her darkest form, then Sombra was taken down to his darkest form, so I guess you could say that all those that are powerful in magic, also have darksides.

Still think this is a terrific idea. The uncorruptable becoming corrupted. What with Twilight becoming an alicorn, one of the tests that no one could have foreseen coming could be the corruption of Celestia. In order to restore peace to Equestria, Twilight, Luna and the rest of the Elements of Harmony have to overthrow the Princess of the Sun and restore her to normal :3

As I stated in a previous post (which is also what I believe led ~CD~ to post here), this would be a fantastic story line. It has been shown that Celestia has more power than Luna, however, Nightmare Moon was able to incapacitate Celestia within seconds of her return. Think of what the Celestia equivalent of Nightmare Moon would be capable of.
