Outdated and overused Internet Lingo

What's wrong with swag and YOLO? I believe they are very important messages.

I'm not really sure about Swag one...

While YOLO (you live only once) can actually be very meaningful if taken from the right context, there is a trend of using the slogan as an excuse to do something highly dangerous and irresponsible (because apparently they will die tomorrow, might as well make it faster)

I dunno, I don't really care about what people say and use on the internet, they would have to post it quite alot more before I got annoyed.

I wouldn't be supprised if anybody gets annoyed with how many times I use the :):D:P faces. I've used XD once or twice but its been a while since I used it alot.

I also use to use lol as basically a substitute period. Now it normally ends up being something like :P:):(:D Depending on the mood. I feel like a post is to bland and serious without some smileys.

But yeah like I said, i dunno if repetition or use of outdated or old things really annoys me that much, maybe I just don't see it enough idk :P.

That's actually only partially true.

People usually don't do it to do dangerous things. Name one time when somebody actually did something incredibly dangerous because of this. Kind of hard, isn't it?

The main message of YOLO is "if something is bothering you, don't waste your life pondering over it. Go out there and get it!"

Jumping off a cliff is not bothering you; thus, it is an extremely rare case of YOLO.

You may see YOLO used as a joke (or someone stupid trying to be funny) for dangerous situations (see below).

I didn't want to make a rant post for risk of being banned, but

YOLO

Swag and YOLO. If you get swag because YOLO then I ask you kindly to go bungee jumping sans bungee. After all who needs bungee when you have swag? #YOLO

Everything else really doesn't bother me with one exception. QQ. Doesn't make any form of sense. Even worse is when its qq some more as if typing "cry" is such a hassle.

Oh boy, here we go...

(straying into meme territory here, by the way)

YOLO

SWAG

Over 9000

Arrow to the knee

Mudkipz

i can haz (actually, pretty much any intentionally poor grammar and spelling that may or may not be used to caption cat pictures)

Epic, used to enhance pretty much any adjective, despite the vast majority of situations it's used in not being epic at all

Fail/win/lose used as an adjective or noun

Chuck motherfucking Testa

txt speak

jimmy rustling

#hashtags after saying stuff

Beginning sentences with "that moment when" and all it's variations

And now, some stuff that will probably anger a few of you :)

20% (adjective)er

10 seconds flat

the (noun) has been doubled

ponyspeak (everypony, anypony, etc) when not RPing as a pony

ponyswear (buck instead of fuck is the main one). Either say it or censor it (f*** or something similar). Or don't say it at all.

Oh, I still use XD all the time. It's simply an expression of laughter a step or two above "lol".

I still use the "xD" face.......

Nothing really bugs me, I think most people use the 'annoying lingo' as a joke.

Now and then I'll throw a neat-mosquito or an awesome-possum for the lulz.

I've never heard or seen somebody use the term "swag" in seriousness, and if I did I'd probably never speak to them again.

Internet slang doesn't really bother me, to be honest. Sure, "lol" and the like can become quite annoying if overused, but in light usage doesn't affect me. I'll even use these terms myself on occasion.

What sends me into fits of rage, however, is "txt spk". There is no excuse to not spell out an entire word, especially in these days of smartphones. If you have a dumbphone, you are the exception and I will tolerate it, in very moderate usage. But if you have a keyboard in front of you and I catch you using it, prepare to die. I will be one unhappy camper.

Anything meme-related gets on my nerves.

Also, I'm starting to find "Pony speak" pretty annoying. Things like "everypony", "in 10 seconds flat", "20% cooler", etc. They're really overused and not so funny in my opinion.

Also, spending way too much time on Reddit, I'm also annoyed by the more Reddit-specific phrases such as "I just found this gem", "upvote to you, good sir", "when does the narwhal bacon" "DAE think" and everything about bacon or cats. It gets really obnoxious honestly.

"XD" annoys me, and I can't quite pit my finger on why it does.

And of course, "troll." Troll is now used to refer to someone who's simply an annoying prick, instead of someone that intentionally makes themself look like an annoying prick for the sake of enraging other people.

Even the word "meme" itself. It used to mean an inside joke of some kind, now it's used to describe any sort of "funny" trend that catches on.

I kind of like the xD face. It takes the pressure off of the other acronyms for symbolizing fake laughter.

Anyway, onto the bashing. While it isn't lingo but rather a writing style, I'm not a fan of leet speak at all and it just bothers the heck out of me whenever I see it. I remember a long time ago when people I knew on this server typed like this on purpose.

|-|0||3$7L'/, //|-|0 L1|<3$ 70 7r4||$L473 7|-|1$ 94rBL3?

(honestly, who likes to translate this garble?)

Really, that's my only pet peeve when it comes to outdated internet lingo, I don't even mind arrow to the knee jokes. Just type normally and don't clog the tubes.

One of them that I don't hear so much anymore is rofl. I don't know why, but I guess it just got old and taken over by lol. Anyway, also "did he died" was an old one that originated from failblog

While I was on my Tumblr the other day a post came around saying something along the lines of..."...that one person on the internet that still uses the xD face". This got me thinking that maybe this symbol is now... out dated? What are your thoughts on that and what phrases or smilies do you remember from years ago that you don't see too often anymore? I don't even know the last time I saw somebody post ROFL.Also, what internet lingo grinds your gears? The phrase "I can't" or "I can't even" is starting to get on my nerves a bit. Fortunately that's really only found on Tumblr, I've noticed.

oh lord, tell me about it. one can only tolerate so much "ALL OF MY FEELS" being slung around like mud all over the place.

...well actually that doesn't really annoy all that much, though it does a little.

also "u mad bro?" is so overused it's not even funny anymore. same goes to "cool story bro".

HAHA yes, "all of my feels".  And you know, I suppose the only reason some of these annoy me is because there is one person on Tumblr that I follow that only says this stuff.  Every.  Single.  Post.  I guess it's call the "Tumblr talk" or whatever.  Oh well, it's just the stuff I have to sift through to find the good stuff on Tumblr.  That place is way to addicting for my own good, even if the way people talk on there is a bit repetive.

YOLO is Carpe Diem for ignorant people. Plain and simple.

You know, the "Live live to the fullest" thing has been around a lot longer than YOLO. If anything, I mean, come on, say this:

I would think overused would be the now "text talk"(lol, brb, otw, omw, etc). Overused in places where its not really needed. I could understand actually texting, or gaming. Why does it have to be used so much online though? Though coming from playing MMOs since the 90s, I would guess majority of that "text talk" came from MMOs :P . I just find it overused on the internet. Its why I like this forum, forcing you to make 100 characters minimum.

Text talk pisses me off to no end people who use it that are not using a mobile phone are nothing but lazy If you have a full keyboard at your finger tips then you should never use text talk. Iv seen people use it in job application forms *face palm*
