Do you think police officers play Grand Theft Auto?

I was playing Grand theft Auto the other day, and I started committing a few virtual crimes. Some stabbing, some stealing, some grand theft auto (of course), and a few acts of random and unprovoked outbreaks of violence. Needless to say, a whole squadron of police officers were soon on my tail. I drove for miles until they eventually trapped me in a back alley. In one last act of defiance, I began wildly firing my weapon upon the crowd of officers. I killed about five of them before they took me out. It was quite the adrenaline rush.

Then, I thought to myself: If a police officer was playing this game, and they were presented with a situation where they were cornered by the virtual cops, would they be as merciless as I was?

Could they stomach the sight of the death of one of their fellow officers, even if the officer wasn't real? Would they want to even play the game in the first place?

What do you think? Do you personally know any cops who have stated their disapproval of GTA?

Haha, it would make for a pretty hilarious scenario.

I bet some cops dive into the world of GTA but I doubt they use it for real world training. Sort of like how the US military sometimes trains through the use of games like Call of Duty/Modern Warfare in order to simulate enemy attacks and what strategies to use. In the end, it's not the real thing.

In order to fully assert yourself to the job you choose, you need hands on experiences, not video games. :P

Yeah he even has it on his PSP and shows his fellow cops his rampages, blasting cops away with a shotgun. The local RCMP here is very open. Even have days where they fight each other in riot gear in a cage. All in good fun.

i n all honesty, it's just a game

I'm pretty sure it would be like a guilty pleasure they get

Sort of a way to deal with the stresses of being an officer

I'm sure some officers might find it offending but mot a lot of them

Hell, my dad used to have security jobs and he plays games like GTA or Saints Row for fun so I am sure it isn't much of a big deal

It seems like it would be weird, but why not play it? It's just a game. What are the other options? Skyrim, where you run around as a psychopath and eradicate villages? CoD, where you are a solider that seems to never die and with no limits on ammo who goes around and kills thousands of people? Assassin's Creed where you assassinate governmental officials because you see their way of ruling unfair and unjust, and kill innocent guards just because they get in the way? (Seriously though, whatever happend to going out and gathering evidence from multiple sources about the crimes they committed before assassinating them? Atleast- that's what Altïar did)

Point is there are worse games out there, but GTA is the more ironic one.

Even if I'm a pacifist and I play a game like GTA, or something like that--it doesn't change the fact I'm a pacifist. So, yeah--I would say that if they are a gamer, and they like that sort of game, then they would play it. It's like asking if someone who is a AAA driver would play Need for Speed or something like that. I bet they would. It's just a game so the fact that someone says "I want to play it" doesn't change who they are, despite what some mothers would like to have you believe.

I know people in the military who play games where they are terrorists. So, anything is possible, honestly.

I'm sure they do, since it's just a video game. It's fun to play. I don't see why they wouldn't. I mean, it's not real life or anything. If it were, I'm sure things would be different.

It doesn't matter what you do in the real world. In the virtual world, you can be anything. Heck, let the police commit crime in the game. It's not like they will ever get to do so in real life.

Why yes actually I do know a police officer who has played Grand Theft Auto before in the past. I'm also aware of elementary school teachers playing Bully.

Just editing my signature to say that my behavior on here was cringe. I don't regret the friends i made but man i was cringe here

Haha sounds hilarious.

Anyways, I don't think there are many who do. Though I can't say that there aren't some who plays it. I'ts a fun game after all.

It's all escapism. Hell, police and soldiers are people first and foremost, so they have the same need for entertainment that we all have. Hell, I was given a pirate copy of the very first GTA (and the 1970's London expansion) by my soldier uncle back in the day. It's all make believe.

I heard that Trent Renzor and the rest of NiN used to play a lot of Guitar Hero between tours.

Of course they do. Well not all of them, but some of them certainly do. Police officers are normal people too y'know! And GTA is just a game.

Sure, some play Grand Theft Auto because they enjoy the game. The game is nowhere near realistic enough for training purposes but as a recreational activity they would play it during their free time. I used to play it and wonder if police use it to see what the motives for criminals were but after I asked my fathers friend if he played for that purpose he said no.

The mind of the host will desperately try to create memories where none exist. Simple right?
