Season 3 Finale Opinions: What would you change?

I know most people are going to say Twlight not becoming an Alicorn, but for me it's the whole Musical theme.

Don't get me wrong, I love pony songs as much as the next brony, but not 7 in an episode! Let there be more theme in theme people!

Tell me what you would change.

Thanks and bro hoof /)

I would add more plot and build-up instead of just filling it up with filler songs.

Don't get me wrong,I love the songs in MLP as much as the next brony, but I would rather have one or two memorable songs and good plot rather than seven songs that I can't remember for the life of me and no plot whatsoever.Plus, having less songs makes each one even more special, since we don't get them much y'know?

IMO the music was perfect, it did all the storytelling it needed without explaining much things, the "musical" formula worked for me because the episode felt epic from beginning to end.

But if I can change something, it would be transforming the episode in 2 parts. I would like the episode to give more focus in the solution of the cutie marks problem, because I felt it was resolved quite easy.

Either make it a two-parter or take out most if not all of the songs. As had been said and over said, the episode was rushed. Doing either of these things would have allowed for the story to build and make it a much more enjoyable episode. Also, Twilight becomes an alicorn, possibly one of the most important developments of the entire series, and this is what she gets?

I'd make it a two-parter.  The first part would be the problem with the mixed-up cutie marks, the second part would be finding the solution and THEN Twilight's coronation.

I'd make it a two-parter.  The first part would be the problem with the mixed-up cutie marks, the second part would be finding the solution and THEN Twilight's coronation.

I agree with that. And in the first part you described, I'd also include a better introduction to the problem, rather than just alluding to it in a flashback. Makes for more build-up and suspense.

Yeah like the previous members, i would make it a two parter. I mean its logical considering the important nature of this episode. But they could have made the finale work if they left a cliff-hanger.

Twilight becoming an Alicorn!

Well, okay, that was kind of the point of the episode, so my runner up is the dresses. Those terrible, ugly coronation dresses that were clearly produced while Carousel Boutique was still in the hooves of Applejack. What was wrong with bringing out the gala dresses again? Those at least looked good.

Why does Celestia have a big, ridiculous ermine-lined crown? Doesn't she know that fur kills? Both she and Luna have very ordinary-looking dresses when they ought to have something grand and sweeping. All that fan artists know that Princess dresses don't have sleeves; why don't the show artists?

I guess we can thankful that the ponies don't dress up all the time. Otherwise, we never would've been able to take Celestia (or any of the rest of them for that matter) seriously.

I'd have to say less songs.

Keep the songs that people liked because, basically the first half of the episode and the rest of it was basically singing. I know it's something I shouldn't complain about but, when My Little Pony has songs in their episodes we get like either 1 song or a couple. But not, 7 freaking songs! A very minor problem, not too major.

Where do I even start with this train wreck? Honestly I can't even name one thing specifically I could change it was such a mess you could reduce the number of songs which could help with the dialogue but you would still have the cutie mark idea which should have been its own episode leading into alicorn Twilight. I don't know if this would even count but I suppose, make it a two parter.

Um well I liked the S3 finale pretty well as is, maybe i'm just a fan of music more then the next guy, but I think it was pretty good.

If I had to find something to change though, then I guess I'd have wanted it to be longer, because Idk you can never have enough MLP right? :P

.... What you can? Naw stop playing with me.. :)

I guess if I had to directly alter the episode there was maybe like 1 song I could say was somewhat unnesary, and that was the "Princess Twilight cometh" thing, only song in the finale I didn't particularly like.

The others where all pretty good in my eyes for their own reasons, "Morning in ponyville"and "life in Equestria" had a great way to bring the episode to an opening and close and both where very cheery and nice songs :D. "Its what my cutie mark is telling me" was a good way to explain the problems especially with the time constraints and the song was quiet catchy to.

"I have to find a way" was not only a great way to express Twilights feelings about how she messed up, and how depressing things in Ponyville had turned, but it was freaking beautiful. I love that song, I love Twilights singing voice to so I might be slightly biased, but that song was great, I only wish it was longer, but I guess we also have time constraints and stuff.

"True True Friend" was an amazing song, its catchy and really awesome not to mention a good way to solve the problems under time contraints of 1 episode again, and I just loved it! It reminds me of "Smile Smile Smile" in the style kinda mostly in the end with the parade, but of course in a good way. One of my favorite if not favorite S3 song.

"Celestia's Ballad" was a good song, and it was the first time Celestia actually got a song, which is good in itself, plus her singing voice was actually pretty good if I must say.

So yeah only song I really didn't care for was the "Princess Twilight cometh song" but then again it was short and i dunno how much they could've done with it, plus it may have just been replaced with Twilight walking down the isle for no reason, so maybe its pointless to remove anyways.

So basically without increasing the episode to a two parter I can't think of anything I'd change, I liked it pretty well regardless.

The problem with the episode was that it tried to squeeze two plotlines into one 20 minute timeslot. And that drops down to just 10 minutes when you factor in all the songs.

IMO, the entire episode should have just been about the cutie mark mix-up. They can keep the songs, if they want, but give us one solid plotline instead of trying to squeeze in another one. That would definitely alleviate the atrocious pacing issues, and free up some more space for character development and storytelling.

Amoral cynic with a bitchin' vocabulary.

I would say make the lyrics to A True True Friend a little less corny and repetative.  Even for ponies, you should only say true true friend so many times.

Otherwise, I thought the finale was perfect.

I love you.

Take out the whole Alicorn Twilight thingy and make the subplot (the cutie mark swap) the main plot. I think the ramifications of switching talents and destinies with another person could make excellent fodder for an entertaining and complex episode. Can you ever really step into another person's shoes and be forced to live their life, and end up looking at them in the same way? I thought there was a lot of wasted potential with that idea, and there is room for oodles of character development and fun character interactions :). This has actually been on my wish list for a while, and now unfortunately it seems unlikely to ever happen.

I think that it could serve as a satisfying end to the season as well. The Mane Six would be closer to each other than ever before and we could end on a really touching moment. Like the end of The Best Night Ever, times ten.

Either no Spike episodes, or Season finale 2 parter. I loved this season and saw very little wrong with it. Yeah, the finale was rushed but they were desginated a time frame and had to stick to it. The Spike episodes were pointless in my opinion and took up space that could have been used in the finale. But I'm not disappointed with the Season at all, minus the Spike episodes

How about this:

We keep the characters IN character, more than the pasing of the episode I hated how the characters were so out of character when they saw Twilicorn

"A new flying buddy!"

Seriously.

I don't fucking care that just threw me completely off.

And the Twilight's "Everything is going to be alright" at the end was like a slap to the face, couldn't they have tried to at least make it no so predictable?

I really liked the episode. The only thing I would have changed is to maybe give Luna a verse in Celestia's song. It could be along the lines of how she had her doubts, but Twilight proved herself in the end.

i think the main thing i would change is how they went about changing twilight. personal i was exited for her to be an alicorn and i had come up with like 12 ways they could go about doing it. the way they did do it though left me feeling lost.

i wanted her becoming an alicorn to be an accident and her to also be trying to return to normal. along the way helping her fiends and learning to accept the changes. btw what i thought the episode was gonna be when i first read about it was that the cutie marks would be switching all over equestria and how twilight becomes a alicorn is she gets switched with celestia thus becoming a princes. then at the end when she fixes everything she is still an alicorn and the episode end with twilight saying somthing along the lines of "this cant be good"

Keep it from happening? mellow.png Or at least keep Twilight from becoming an alicorn. Almost everything that went wrong in the episode stemmed from the writers having to make that happen, so take that part out and we're set.

In my opinion the episode felt rushed, I would have liked if the had made it a two parter. All of the scenes felt too short. I for one loved all of the songs however, I don't think they should have used the songs to tell the story. The fact that such a huge change was rushed was kind of a slap in the face. I'm sure that there are some behind the scenes reasons for this but it still bums me out. Really good episode though :P

Hmm. Change one thing. Aside from Princess Sparkle?:)

I'd rather have had the whole cutie mark problem as an episode on it's own. That would have made a fantastic episode without using it to rush in the Alicornification or whatever. I had no problem with the songs.

I'd also have had Luna play a more important role than just standing there smiling in a dress that doesn't suit her too ;)

As others have said before, it could have benefited greatly by being a two-parter.
