What is Your Favorite Music Genre?

I'm a fan of Classic Rock and some techno as well as a little bit of j-pop. The Beatles are my favorite though. You can't beat the classics. I am the Walrus is my favorite song by them.

I voted for classic-retro pop, because it's probably the closest to my music tastes. I would describe my music tastes as classic pop and rock from the 1960s-1980s + adult pop and rock from the 1990s-present. Also, since I listen to radio a lot (oldies, classic rock, and adult station), I pretty much only listen to hit singles.

I voted Classical. Although I do listen to other kinds of music. In fact, I probably listen to Oldies and Classic/Progressive Rock just as much. It's just that I feel more with Classical, typically. There's such a great variety of it, and it has woodwind instruments. You can't get any better than that. =P

"Elektro" should be changed to "electronic music". "Progressive" is a term applied to music which is made in an attempt to make music of a particular genre using a more artistic approach (e.g. Progressive rock). That being said, the only "progressive" genre that deserves to be mentioned separately from its base genre should be progressive rock because of the huge divergence in sound between prog rock and the rest of rock music. If progressive rock were a genre in the poll, not only would people that like your average prog rock like Mike Oldfield and King Crimson, but it could also include Krautrock (Can, Neu!), math rock (Slint, This Town Needs Guns), and post rock (Efrim Menuck's bands, Sigur Rós) along with many other sub-genres and derivative genres from progressive.

 

I also think that black, death, doom, and drone metal should be in their own category, as thrash and metalcore bands like Metallica and Killswitch Engage sound nothing like Burzum, Earth, Electric Wizard, or Mayhem.

For ma rock, i like hard-rock and punk-rock the most, but all rock is good. For ma metal, I like it all. I really don't fully understand the difference between the types of metal and it all sounds good to me.

The first is classified as thrash and the second is in a genre called drone metal. Thrash and one of its derivative genre metalcore are both centered around melody. Death, doom, black, and drone are less focused on melody and more focused on timbre (mostly due to the fact that they drew influence from avant garde music as well as various forms of noise music).

I actually enjoy almost every genre. There isn't a specific genre I dislike, every one of 'em has bad songs, but most genres as a whole are pretty good. The things I tend to hate are some of the "artists". (I use the term "artist" very loosely.) I can't stand such musical abominations such as Nicki Minaj, Justin Bieber (duh), and basically every female rapper from the 2000's. (And the word for today is: Misogynist!) I'm actually not a misogynist, but I just think that the male voice is more suited to rap.

I usually listen to either Progressive or Alternative Rock as my main selection. You know, Rush and Led Zeppelin and all dat good shit.

 

I also like symphonic music, like Stradivarius. Just mixing some music hall instruments with metal elements gets me pumpin'.

Classic Rock/ Heavy Metal being the genre I mainly listen to.... I could go on & on listing all the bands that I love so I will just go with those two genres as my favorites.
