I've read people say "Mane 6 is best pony"

 

So I guess the "best pony" category is more like a group that usually consists of only one pony but can have more than one pony.

Nah, there's no rule saying that you must have one favorite. I have anywhere from 2-5 favorite ponies at one given time depending on my flavour of the week, however Luna is always included in there

I never heard of that rule. If it did exist, I would be breaking it. After all, rules are made to be broken.

 

My favorite pony is Chrysalis, but there are some ponies that I like equally to Chryssi. Preferably Cloudchaser and Twilight Sparkle.

I don't believe its possible to really have a rule of how you can think about whos your favorite  pony.

 

You can have more then one if you so choose, although most people like to have theirs ordered, or have no issue sorting them in order.

 

I have actually recently got to where i almost have Twilight and Fluttershy tied for my favorite pony, but thats not official yet.

There is no hard set rule on deciding your favourite pony. You can have as many favourites as you'd like. Derpy and Luna were fighting so frequently for the top position that I decided to have them share that position.
