Lunas Husband 2,777 October 25, 2013 Share October 25, 2013 Hell yes... sure I don't like war.. or killing but... come on to push a button to test a nuke! hell yeah! and top of all that I know its one less nuke to hurt others... Ianpiersonjdavis 512 October 27, 2013 Share October 27, 2013 Well, it DOES sound tempting, but that would also make me responsible for any radiation subsequently released and even if that didn't directly end any lives, it could be easily attributed to ruining them. So in the end it's not really if I would do it-it more or less boils down to; do I have the right to utilize something with such destructive capabilities? Even if it's just at a testing site, nuclear waste doesn't just go away. Besides, I would probably be far too incompetent to properly detonate properly in the first place-leading to even more problems.
MLPForums Phanact 1,374 October 27, 2013 Share October 27, 2013 Without any thought at all, I'd just do it. I don't know why but I'd just love to see the huge explosion and mushroom cloud. Also, no one dies so I guess that's a bonus... let's love for me and lets love loud and let's love now cause soon enough we'll die
Legacy Dash 439 October 27, 2013 Share October 27, 2013 Even if no one dies, unlike most people here, I wouldn't do it. I don't want to poison an area with radiation, so no one can go there for years and years. If I could do it on another planet, I'd do it, cause it would be cool to see a massive boom. Signature by . Pentium100 2,122 February 25, 2020 Share February 25, 2020 Yes, I would detonate a nuclear bomb at a test site (from a safe distance obviously). Better if they allowed me to connect the equipment etc, not just turn a key or push a button. I also would like to launch a nuclear missile as part of a retaliatory strike (first strike would be more difficult though). I also think that the people who work in nuclear silos have a good job. I mean, the way I see it, normally you get to sit underground and not do much of anything, but if the order comes you get to launch a nuke at the enemy and you are rather well protected from an enemy bomb. Or disintegrating my flesh..... This is the only valid answer. On the topic of fallout (small f) and disposal, I came across an interesting concept recently- nuclear warning architecture. basically the plan is to build a bunch of weird, ominous spiky monoliths on top of wherever the other ponies in this thread detonated their bombs, nuclear dumping sites etc, so that whatever societies re-evolve after humanity makes itself extinct will, hopefully, have enough sense to leave the area well alone for 10,000 years. The proposed inscription is strangely chilling. Quote This place is a message... and part of a system of messages ...pay attention to it! Sending this message was important to us. We considered ourselves to be a powerful culture. This place is not a place of honor ... no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here... nothing valued is here. What is here was dangerous and repulsive to us. This message is a warning about danger. The danger is in a particular location... it increases towards a center... the center of danger is here... of a particular size and shape, and below us. The danger is still present, in your time, as it was in ours. The danger is to the body, and it can kill. The form of the danger is an emanation of energy. The danger is unleashed only if you substantially disturb this place physically. This place is best shunned and left uninhabited. People are actively preparing for the post-apocalyptic wasteland the Earth will one day become. Don't know about you, but this really makes the wrongness hit home for me. Well, if the society is primitive, they might leave this alone because it looks spooky, but then I guess keeping the stuff deep underground would also work well to prevent a primitive society from being able to touch the waste. On the other hand, a less primitive society would look at that and think "well, that's the place where they keep the good stuff and the stories about curses etc are just stories to keep away the thieves". Also, I don't think that detonating a nuclear bomb makes the are uninhabitable to 10k years, probably much less. Now, a nuclear waste dump would stay dangerous for a very long time. That's why nuclear fuel should be reprocessed and reused in different reactors.

No matter how big and universal a 'do not touch' sign you make, the human urge to 'touch anyway' is nigh unconquerable. Hopefully whatever lifeform inherits the planet from us is sensible enough to leave our radioactive garbage alone (or advanced enough to just render it all harmless). Quote Also, I don't think that detonating a nuclear bomb makes the are uninhabitable to 10k years, probably much less. To be fair, it doesn't. I'm just trying too hard to use a gag to segue my current spiky-danger-architecture obsession into a thread about nuclear bombs.
