Your thoughts on Spike being a Dog

How did you feel about Spike being a dog? I mean everyone I talk to about Spike being a dog, they're like "oh, it was so stupid...."

 

I thought it was pretty cute. I mean, how weird is it to see purple, yellow and orange-skinned teenagers?

The weird part was I didn't expect all of the students to actually match their colors from the show, and have the right colors in the movie.  As for Spike, it wasn't dumb at all.

Well the name "Spike" suits him rather well being a dog in the human world. If he were to turn into a human, things would have been different in the movie because he wouldn't be able to fit into Twilight's backpack.

I personally had no problem with Spike the dog.    It seems a bit odd to put the mind of a sapient dragon into the body of a creature unable to reason or articulate ideas.  But aside from that minor quibble, Spike was one of the movie's strong points.  His role as Twilight's immediate supporting character was very well done. 

 

As far as the colors of the people goes, well, our world doesn't have orange, purple, and green people, but it doesn't have orange, purple, and green equines either.

I think I'm the only one who likes Dog Spike then Dragon Spike. I love him as a dog! It made since, c'mon what else was he gonna be? Spike the dog was a brillant character, and had some of the best lines in the movie.

 

Also dem eyes are priceless.

I didn't have a problem with spike being a dog. The way I thought of it was if ponies are considered the dominant species of Equestria (yes, I know Equestria is a nation not a world) then they in turn are the dominant species in that dimension, so human... Ish. So Spike following means he'd become something that's loyal to humans in that realm, with that logic Spike being a dog makes sense.

Spike being a dog was fine for me. What really bothered me was that everyone in school that had a Pony alternate self had that pony's skin color. I am sure the hair, voices, and attitude were enough to give it away. The skin was over the top. But I had a lot of issues with the writing of the story anyways, so I wont even go into too much detail.

 

Spike being a dog probably made the most sense in that movie. In any point. Ever.

Spike being a dog was actually fitting for his character, I believe. As many people here have stated, it was weird that the human characters still had the same skin color from Equestria. But, it's not as weird compared to when the human Mane Six grew pony ears at the end.

With Spike as a dog, it created some points in the movie that otherwise wouldn't have been possible, such as Snips and Snails kidnapping him, and the scene pictured in the GIF above with Rarity constantly doting on him because he's such a "cute lil puppy"

Off topic, but it's not my fault. That clip. I just noticed that the animation had Rarity actually using her tongue to pronounce. That's a detail you don't normally see in animation now-a-days.

Triple yes. Although I love Spike, it's sad that he was probably the most reasonable and well-written of the characters in terms of consistency and lack of stupidity.

 

The more I rewatch clips (eventually I'll muster up enough courage to watch the whole thing again) the more I feel that like 75% of Twilight's actions are OOC and insensible to some degree.

I liked the whole movie. Spike the Dog took a while getting used to,as well as the other characters. The only small problem I had was Big Mac being Apricot/Normal Human Skinned. And this video was the best thing to come out of youtube. Lol!

I think Spike becoming a dog was a reflection of his loyalty to Twilight. He knew it might  be dangerous (and high school can be) but still he went after her. So I guess I'm okay with it.

I did have a problem with Big Mac. He is one of my favorites! The rest was really, really good. I liked the outfits that they were wearing, but Ranbow and Applejack in skirts?

The concept of Spike as a dog is in and of itself insulting and demeaning to the character; that said, seeing as Spike was more well written than he's been in a long time, along with being one of the best written characters of the whole movie, I didn't find it too distracting in execution, even if the concept itself was still stupid and poorly justified by his being able to talk convincing the girls that Twilight was from another dimension.

I mean, they aren't "girls", if you know what I mean. Yes, it would be much more suitable for them to wear jeans. In fact, ALL the girls in the school where wearing skirts. Some of them really didn't need to be.

I agree..I think AJ would have looked better in overalls actually. It would have gone better with her working on her family's farm. With RD I think something more sporty obviously, but jeans could have worked. It would have made her reaction to having to put a dress on a bit funnier.  Plus I think Fluttershy should have had a longer dress too. I think it would have fit her personality better. Not the Monster High copies we saw. But over all I loved the movie for what it was.
