Alicorn OC's..are they really that bad?

I don't hate ailcorn OC. But it needs to have a good backstory and appearance.Maybe a Alicorn in a different world. Here is example

 

 

 

This Alicorn OC name is Crescentia. She exists in a universe different from Equestria and is the ruler of the moon. In the land of Herdrania, Crescentia rules as the queen, alongside her husband. I really like this OC. I don't own it but it looks great and has a good backstory

Well, I am fairly new to my little pony, but I do like to role play, however, I do like to role play with thought, especially taking something like an Alicorn and givivg it aspects to seem less powerfull, or more withen the realm of any othe creature with problems.

 

Thus my Alicorn is a simple farmers daughter, who lives and works on her parents farm, though it is a large farm and employs four farmhands as well to take up the slack, her hide is the color of old parchment and her magic is simply to right poetry, also she can fly though she never had training to fly and is afraid to fly for that reason, her time is taken up by working on the farm and in her spare time she writes her poetry. Nothing dark, not over powered, and sort of in denial that she is an alicorn.

 

Thus when told she has wings and could fly, she might respond: "What? These? They are just feathers, I have no idea why I have them... Wanna read some of my poetry?"

 

(Like I said, she is a simple farmers daughter who knows poetry and farming, she may have a destiny but that is not something she gives much thought to. Thus everything is in place for her to grow into whatever role my rp with her defines). High, I'm High Step, I work on my parents farm.)

 Good, good... but what about alicorns from other places? Other worlds? Like you said Mist Blitz.  My OC Radiance is from Triia . It's my AU, full of alicorns. WITH A good AU, backstory and coloring, any Alicorn can be a good one. UNLESS they are Prince Brave Heart, son of Twilight and Flash, married to Fluttershy and rules over West Equestria. That's literally an OC

i think i have a solution to the "Alicorn oc" problem: Most people hate Alicorn OCs because they feel the person who made them is pretty much saying "Im better than all of you". So, why not make a third type of Alicorn 

 

The first type are Demi-Goddesses, Celestia and Luna. These are techically not ponies at all but rather benevolent versions of "Old Ones" that take the forms of Alicorns because their true forms just arent comprehensible.

 

The second type are Acscended Ones, Twilight and Cadance. These are ponies who have ascended to Alicornhood by completing a task. They usually have much skill in the area of species they were originally (Twilight a Unicorn, Candance a Pegasus), they are also mortal.

 

Finally, third type are Born Alicorns, most Alicorn OCs and the background Alicorns. These are by and by normal ponies who happen to be born with all the traits of all the three species. Their difference in abbilities compared to other ponies is negilible. Their body size is no bigger than most Earth Ponies, their wing size is no bigger than most Pegasi, and their magic is pretty much as powerful as most Unicorns. They dont have the power of Ascended Ones , but they have more balance. This may also explain why in Manehatten Twilight wasnt recognized, Alicorns are a normal sight in that city.

Except for being able to both fly and use magic. Normal ponies can only do one of them, or none depending on the race.

 

Any way, alicorns tend to be Mary sues, badly written or both. I guess that there can be a good alicorn oc, however I've never seen one.

I spoke with a friend of mine, who loves comic books, and he though of a superhero OC that the first thing that reminded me of are bad alicorn OCs. Overpowered, tragic past, overly cool. etc. Hard to resist the urge of telling him how bad it is

I find them a bit lazy, I just don't understand why people just can't pick only 1 race. And I feel I can't express my opinion without being hated on.

Although, not all of them are lazy, some of them are alicorns for other purposes that can be legit if done right, but it's hard to do it right.

The only exception to this would be if you actually worked on the real, canon show. Story-boarding, editing, or anything like that. Then it would be justified.

 

Sorry if I offended anyone by saying this, but I can't really think of a way to sugar-coat it. If it makes anypony feel any better, it's not like I've always been above such things myself. I've made my fair share of mary-sues, and any writer you talk to will probably dry-vomit if you ever bring up any character they made during the beginning of their career. It's sort of like how Harry Houdini hated fraud psychic mediums so much. He hated them because he used to be one.

Think of it like what the Comic book team says about all the alicorn OCs: bascially they want to ask each person with an alicorn OC what great deed they did to become an alicorn.


Essentially, making your character an alicorn OC is something akin to making a mary sue, because you're starting out from the beginning as your character being this ultra destined character or whatnot, even if they're not "uber powerful", not unlike making a naruto OC with tons of bloodlines or something.

With me. I like Alicorn OC's. It's those that pull the 'I'm better then you and more powerful and immortal' pretty much mary sue card that kind of annoy me. Those that know how to do it without that bit I'm okay with. I mean, you can be strong and all but it's when you try to rub it in people's faces that annoy me.

I've met more bad Alicorn OC's then good but I know there are many out there that are great and awesome.

Yes, and I'll tell you why:

People are basically self proclaiming themselves as gods/demi-gods when they have a Alicorn OC. In order to have an alicorn OC, one would have to know the ancient history of Equestira and the origin of Alicorns to have an actual good representation of what an Alicorn OC should be. 

Now there are a few Alicorn OC's that can work, even without knowing of the definite purpose, but they had better be pretty damn good/realistic. 

I'm not sure I've actually seen a good Alicorn OC yet.

To be fair, bat ponies are canon   . But I'm with you, most amateur writers don't realize that an OP and only focused character aren't interesting. That problem is far too common that sadly, you can't help but think a character is loved by everypony, is a lost relative of the canon characters, or is already superior to anyone else, etc etc etc, is a mary sue right away.

So far, I've only seen two good alicorn OCs, Nyx, and a daughter of Twilight Sparkle who wasn't an alicorn until the end of the fic

Alicorn OC's can be good.

 

Here is a description of a BAD Alicorn OC.

 

"Is an Alicorn from birth, can destroy 3 billion stars and can create 35 million galaxies within 2 seconds, can fly 492,829,225 kilometres per second, and has Dora's map as a cutie mark."

 

Here, it combines unbelieveable power, speed and random out of the blue cutie mark impossible in Equestra.

 

And if we try to reform it:

 

"Was born a Unicorn, and was turned into an Alicorn by Celestia, magic is slightly powerful than regular unicorn magic, and has two red diamonds as a cutie mark."

 

Here there is something canon-seeming, Celestia turned Twilight Sparkle into an Alicorn, who was once a Unicorn. Magic is not too overpowered, and cutie mark makes sense in Equestria.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I think an alicorn OC can work if the writer remembers that alicorns are all royalty and that most had to ascend through some arduous magical task.

 

This assuming that the writer wants the story to fit into G4 canon.

Really I created myaccount for this. Most alicorn OC's fall between the lines of dark, and, or overpowerd realated to the maine six, and crappy backstory. I for one have made several OCs, one of which was an alicorn. He was suicidal, mad, and all that. I killed him off eventually by suicide. But you really can not make an alicorn OC without a crappy back story. If you do tell me the entire story
