Signing up a account on Facebook was the number two worst mistake I've ever made in my entire life.

The number one mistake was going on 4chan.

It all depends on you really

it's a good way to find old friends...but it's also a really good place to listen to over dramatic or over-political/religious people rant about their inane crap

I've had mine for a long time...I use it mostly to have fun

Facebook sucks...

Most of my friends stopped using it... Idk why, they just did... But the most annoying part about Facebook is the girls

Most of them click "like" on something random and it shows it on the new feeds wall.. You get spammed with this shit...

And the girls post random status updates that you don't care about... They don't know when to SHUT THE FUCK UP

It all depends on whether you're a social person or not. If you're the sort of person that constantly wants to talk to your friends, then yes, get a Facebook account. If not, I don't think Facebook would be of much use to you.

Facebook is for me really annoying and I have it only because there is no other way to communicate with some people that I know. Recently it started spamming with some annoying ads, in Poland You can be easily turned into spammer when You accidently go on "wrong" website and now it tries to milk some cash from bands by reducing numbers of people who will see their status updates. I won't even start with things like "like-farms" and other disgusting actions that are present there. It's social network at its worse and I will be really happy when something else will finally replace this website.

Facebook is overrated and even though I have known that ever since I was first asked to join. I did join facebook and I realized something, it's nothing more then a place for narcissistic attention seekers.

I have no friends on there anyway, it's pretty much useless and the only good thing that can come from it, is deleting it. Although I like seeing car memes and car ads on there. That's a plus but I'm not sure how I feel about facebook it's overrated and useless.

I put depends since there was no 'both' option.

Often it becomes much easier to keep in touch with friends and family via Facebook, and there were a few stories about criminals being caught on Facebook.

However, paying too much attention to it makes you hate everyone on there.

Facebook is useful for me. I log on every single day, pretty much only for the Pokelogic stuff, so usually I only use Facebook to view funny Pokémon pictures. Well, that and occasionally talk to friends. I like Facebook, it's simple and easy to use.

Tumblr, twitter, and all of those other social websites downright confuse me. I'll still to my Facebook for now.

I voted Depends. It can either be a good way to keep in touch with people, or just a way to kill time. Nothing wrong with the latter, though I'll admit that I only created an account because my older brother asked me to when he left for college, and I rarely ever check it.

I'm contemplating beginning a new Facebook account. I've never had Facebook before and I was wondering if it's got any uses at all.

So it's a poll and a debate of sorts. Is a Facebook account worth starting?

Keeping in touch with those that wouldn't contact you otherwise.. sure its okay.

But its not good for those that you'd rather keep HUMAN contact with.  Or if you'd like to actually be kept informed of important things as they happen, since it tends to hide smaller postings or just dump them entirely.

I've seen plenty of people go straight to posting things on facebook without notifying ANYONE of anything important.

My Ex for one, her family would post things on there knowing full well she rarely used it. Things like a death in the family... So she'd never even know for weeks before someone would finally mention it to her directly. Because you know, everyone checks facebook every five minutes and can spot those little 2 sentence posts that are barely visible and buried between other massive posts....

I've spoken to several others that had that same issue. Even my grandparents have only found out about good friends passing by that. Rather than being informed directly by their friends, they'd learn it weeks later on FB.

Information that should be passed about the family directly, hidden in some online hornets nest of garbage and advertisements. Often easily missed and overlooked.

But its also good for sabotaging employment, future employment, and anything that gets taken to court. Employers, and lawyers love that site to weed out and incriminate people. I actually had a temp job that came from a guy losing his over a facebook post.

People are far to liberal with what they post, and that information stays on there and is traced back easily enough given most people use ACTUAL information. Making it easy for unintended individuals to find you and dig through your posts. Those privacy settings btw, mean precisely dick. They're easy to get around.

99% of facebook is advertising and free look runs for advertisers to find what the masses supposedly want.

Edit: wow that made me sound like some sort of conspiracy nut...

But this isn't conspiracy, read the news, or talk to a few people at an employment office sometime.

This is all from experience.

Catch 22 is,don't have one, and some employers will think your stuck in the stone age and aren't "with the times"... so its kind of a double edged sword.

Over rated. All I saw was drama upon drama upon drama. So sick of all the god damned complaining over trivial things hearing about relationships breaking up because one of them friended a member of the opposite gender. The game requests when all I wanted to do was talk to friends was a minor annoyance but f*ck it I'll mention it anyway. End of the day I gave up on Facebook and have no intention of returning.

I recently deleted mine. Facebook is stupid. I hadn't touched it in like a year. The main reason I stopped using it was because it was just so cluttered with notifications, random people I hardly knew kept trying to talk to me (I don't like instant messaging) and it was spamming my email folder. Also, I don't care about the trivial or high school drama things going on in everyone's lives.

I'm stunned to see this thread come back alive xD because I love my Facebook account. No drama, and most people are nice. Well... there are those people who just keep posting selfies which irritates me, but other than that I've found it useful.

IDK. My Facebook is my only personal thing which I use to talk to people I actually know. I have a tumblr and a deviant art, but I just use that to talk to strangers.

It's mainly a double edged sword for me at the end of the day.

For Facebook, the negatives outweigh the positives. I'd delete mine if it weren't for a few people I talk to using it.

positive:

-good way to keep in contact with people, all in one place

-allows you to like certain pages and keep up with current events

negative:

-keeps you glued to your computer or smartphone, preventing you from participating in real life, prevents you from face-to-face non-electronic interaction with others
-transforms you into an ego-indulgent attention whore. Same with Youtube, Twitter and Instagram.

-prevents you from doing important business and/or homework assignments

-the NSA is probably stealing all your information

-is addictive while only providing modest benefits

Well, in my school, Facebook sunk down there with MySpace.

Like, no one in my school really ever uses it anymore ohmy.png

We use Instagram and Twitter mostly now, and I have here.

This has been even better than Facebook for me, though :D
