Is Sombra really dead?

I know what you're think but just hear me out. We saw Sombra get blown to bits right? But if you remember, his horn got chipped off earlier in The Crystal Empire but he was able to grow it back no problem.

So what if after he was blown up he was able to regenerate via Cell from DBZ? Do you think this is possible that he could return?

I don't even think he's really dead. His spirit could still be lurking around, cause the last time before he got banished into the ice, he pronounced a curse against the Crystal Empire. He could have done something similar this time too, but we just don't know it.

Do you mean to say that because he regrew a piece of his horn, he also has the power to regrow himself from existing fragments? It seems like a quality you would attribute to only the horn, because that's the portion of anatomy that produces magic; it would be simpler to use what's left of your horn for the immediate surroundings of it, right?

It does make for some interesting ideas, though. It would make unicorns significantly more powerful in Equestria because regrowing oneself would be a cinch. It would make more sense for it to be a type of dark magic, as there could be all sorts of ethical drawbacks.

While this would be slightly cool and a good way to improve Mr. Gak's character, the writers and some VAs have said that Sombra is not coming back, not ever. Don't hold me completely to this (they may just be really good liers), but watched a couple panels and read highlights from a couple more and I'm just repeating what's been said. :)

He was the villain of Season 3. If he wasn't brought back in the season 3 finale, or at any point in the season, I really don't think they'll bring him back.

Just my opinion.

King Sombra needs to have been destroyed for good. He was disintegrated by the power of the Crystal Heart. Such absolute obliteration can't be survived so he must have died. And he can't be reformed either so there would be no reason for him to return.

I really wish he wasn't dead, but he is.  I don't think I'd regard Sombra as a the 3rd best villain if it wasn't for him dying.  He was basically Obliterated by the Crystal Heart.

Maybe... Maybe for the one ginormous total finale that'll happen in like twenty years every villain will be brought back/resurrected somehow and an epic war will ensue between the elements and the bad guys. :P

I'm sure he is good and dead.. I mean sure he is super Evil!! and all that good stuff but.... I mean come on now he had blue cracks all over his body and then EXPLODED! I don't think he can come back from that..

Well he was turned to shadow by Celestia and Luna... but they didn't kill him they trapped him... so

With 10 replies into this thread, I thought somebody would be able to cite the tweet from Meghan where she said Sombra is indeed deceased and he's not coming back.  Unfortunately I'm not able to dig it up on short notice.

I don't have the tweet but I have this from the Las Pegasus Unicon:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxLmvBB5X7c#t=4822s

All the way at the 1:20:20 mark someone asks about Sombra. Meghan confirms that he's "dead now" at 1:23:00

Sorry Sombra fans, I don't think we'll be seeing him again. At least not in the foreseeable future.

"And the last question of the panel came from our very own Phoe, woman of words! When she asked Meghan about developing antagonists that live up to those who came before and raising the stakes, Meghan was very gracious and acknowledged King Sombra's lukewarm reception in the fandom. She confirmed he was Killed Off for Real, and admitted he was her least favorite character she'd written, saying he didn't come across in the episode as formed as she had him in her head (though not for a lack of trying!). He was always meant to be more of an evil presence (think Sauron) who doesn't share the same in-your-face persona as Discord and Chrysalis, a sentiment Phoe identified accurately in her thematic analysis of the premiere back in November."

Who knows. Sombra wasn't much of a villain to begin with.

This whole thing with his horn being chipped out somewhere at the end of the Crystal Empire Part 2 episode, it really gave me an idea for one of my fanficts that I sort of abandoned because it was too difficult for me to persue.

I'll explain a small part of it. It was basically where his horn lands at the trainstation in the arctic north just outside the empire and when Twilight was leaving the empire after a fun day with her brother and her old foal sitter Cadence, she steps on the horn due to it being covered in snow and she didn't realize it which disturbed Sombra's sleeping state in which he's been waiting for somepony as herself to step on him because he knew that if he took over the pony that originally stopped him, he would become the most powerful being in Equestria.. and maybe even the universe. His DNA and Spirit merged with Twilight and makes his way back to the crystal empire taking the crystal heart and using it for evil in which killed off Shining Armor. That's where I stopped cause it just got too difficult for me but, that's where I left off.

Back to answering your question, I don't think he's gone. I would like for him to return in Season 4 with BETTER potential because he had alot of it in the first 2 episodes of Season 3 but as Hasbro is, they rush every damn thing and don't put work into it with a story line, a good conflict and then a climax+ a good resolution. All of his lines were: Hahahaha, my crystal slaves, crystals, that is mine, crystal heart.   That's it.

It was a shame that he just stood there on top of the black crystal tower he was standing on saying: "NO, NO, STOP!!" that was just like WTF? There would of been a great fight scene between the Mane 6 and Sombra but they didn't do that which was a real shame and dissapointment.

I would give this episode a 3/10 because it lacks alot of potential, story line.. oh forget it, you get the point. -_-

Well it's hardly impossible to see sombre come back.

His horn (you know the most powerful thing on a unicorn) went flying when he blew up.

and the camera seemed to zoom in on it.

As if to say "I'm for shadowing!"

Now if king sombe's horn isn't a cursed artifact i don't know what is.
The writing to get him back in the door and posses someone isn't all that hard.

I'd vote trixie if i had to use someone from the existing cast.

I'm hopping they do something with his horn if for no other reason to show a unicorn's horn has magical powers

even when it's not attached to the original pony.

That's the thing, we may never know. It's unlikely to be addressed again in the show, but what this does is add further mystery to the tale. We still don't understand the full potential of Sombra's abilities, nor the nature of the magic he wields. So my answer is yes and no, we'll probably never find out. He still stands as one of the greatest villains in MLP, even if many don't agree with me.

Sombra got completely annihilated. I doubt he will be back. However his demise clearly shows his horn as he distinigrates. Maybe someone can use that for something. We've seen body parts used in potions before like scootaloo's feather being used to stir the Love Poison.

Maybe Chrysallis can use it to learn to feed on shadows and fear as Love clearly punted her across the continent before and she & her changlings are going to more or less starve to death if she can't find a source.

Sombra can never die.... he lives on !!!!

In all seriousness though he wont come back in the show in my opinion + the show does him badly ( IMO). The fan fiction stuff off him is far more incredible, but to answer, I doubt he will be back! :P

Once saw a depiction of Sombra with a skull head with a shadow body.

Reminded me alot of Neto, First of the Dead from Dark Souls. Kinda wish I still had the picture.

Also heard they originally planned to have Sombra be able to command undead ponies but ditched it because it considered 'too dark' tho I'm not sure how true that is.

Maybe just me, but my impression from the episodes was that he was dead to begin with - his physical pony form was pretty much killed by Luna and Celestia 1000 years ago, with just a malevolent unthinking soul-fragment left by his last spell - kind of like a horcrux. Hence why there was pretty much no personality to him, and he wasn't corporeal, by the time of the episodes, and why they could get away with an on-screen 'death' in a TV-Y rated cartoon. (I realise I'm probably over-thinking it a bit...)

Arguing if they should be aloud to get away with the death for the rating is a pretty good point^^,

not for mlp,

but for the tv rating.

Addressing him as one of the all time greatest villains on mlp,

who does he have to compete with?

I mean seriously one could argue sunset shimmer is top 5 lol.

Well when Sombra got hit by that attack, a piece of his horn did fly off. This is usually the sign that he well be back. But it could also mean he is gone forever.

It would be cool if he did come back, but only time well tell.
