Dangerous turns for future MLP

I just want some opinions from you guys since I already have my share of things to say on this subject:

 

What concepts/themes/directions that normally wouldn't be done on MLP do you believe they should risk going towards with the optimistic possibility of the writers pulling it off and doing good by it?

 

(Note: I'm not asking what would be bad for the series, just things you think they should have a go at that could possibly be done right.)

The themes that I think that the writers should stay away from is, politics and religion. Those two themes could spark up a huge argument for no reason, luckily the writers wouldn't go that route. But a theme that they could be good at is, acceptance.

Maybe religion because that's often a very controversial topic. So hopefully they won't go that way because it would be bad. Kind of why Feeling Pinkie Keen's moral was kind of rocky!

Because there is so much lore left unexplored, new territory may be needed to keep future episodes from turning into repeats of previous ones. I think that delving into some of the darker elements of some characters, if tactfully done, could work. Touching on politics, while dangerous, has potential, and Over the Barrel was an example of making it work (I think). I think there is plenty for the writers to work with without having to make the show too edgy, but some edginess is always welcome.

My sister (along with thousands of others) want a lesbian couple in the series.

 

I myself want them to have a go at romance. I think it's a problematic path but I have faith that the staff can write it well and make it seem "realistic."

I don't think they should cover religion, politics, or sexuality.  It's a kids show, and it should stay away from those 3 things.  Those would cause a bigger problem then Derpygate.  I think a theme they could easily cover would be disability.

Like I have said on the homosexuality thread which is currently hot, I think that a depiction of homosexuality in the background could be a great idea, and if done subtly, it can have minimal backlash. The only way dangerous norms and taboos can be changed if somepony has the guts to depict such issues. I don't think there should ever be a focus, or even side-plot about homosexuality. Rather, I would be satisfied with just something simple in the background like, maybe Lyra and Bon Bon hugging or something. Such downplay of the issue is also a much better approach to normalising it than going out and making a blatant statement.

Here's an idea. How about an episode where the CMC fight to get Miss Cheerilee back as their teacher, after she was fired for being pregnant but not married?

I think one risky move they could make that could pay off big time would be a Derpy episode, one to set the record straight once and for all that yes she is clumsy and a bit child like at times but she is not a walking talking stereotype. The episode could be about how she is not mentally retarded but that she is assumed to be by many of the ponies because of her walled eyes and clumsiness.

Drugs.  it's been done a number of times in varies cartoons.

In varies hasbro cartoons.  (call me on this one i'm ready).

 

We have changeling pushing 100 percent pure rainbow extract, it can keep you up for days at a time. 
"On very special my little pony pinkie pie gets a rainbow dependency."

 

I would be all for this because that would mean they would need.. some kind device, some kind of mc guffin to make the rainbow extract.

some thing thing that would need to be made in a specific kind of building.

And i think that stuff would have to be made in cloudsdail.

Death. It's a subject that's really slippery, but a careful writer could do it perfectly. I would like to see FiM take a stab at something like that, but only if they can do it justice. No half-assing it like they did with the bullying episode.

I could easily see them doing an addiction episode of some sort. Where the friends help 1 of the mane six out of substance abuse whether it be drugs, cider, enhancers, or cake for all i care.
