I'm at the point where this thread has caused me so much pain that I just  want to cancel the whole event. Too much have I seen people not participate, even with my best efforts. Even with all you guys have done, why is it that this event hasn't taken off yet? It's a week before the tournament, and I really was hoping that the masses would be happy to bring themselves together to celebrate how diverse the forums were. 

 

Now, I hear people getting scared of a March Madness repeat, people who are too lazy to vote, and very low turnouts even when the heavyweights are fighting against each other. What's the use if the tournament doesn't bring anyone together?

 

I'll cancel the tournament if I feel the Opening Match is a complete dud. I've thought about it for a long time, and it's just something I need to do. That, and leave the forums once and for all.

I for one hope that the event goes forward; I'm very excited for it to start. I'll understand if you don't do it, but I will be disappointed that if it doesn't happen. I will participate to the best of my ability.

I think people arn't participating that much here because it's an "unofficial" event. (I'm assuming friendly means unofficial. Or at least less important than the main event.) The very word lessens the impact it has on peoples minds, making them less likely to bother. With all the fan fair that the main event has been getting, I'm pretty sure plenty of people will participate in it. From what I see, people are getting pumped up for it. So don't worry about it!

 

Also: AJ and RD are pretty neck and neck right now. Hopefully Applejack can keep her lead :3

@Sterling Crimson, I think that half of the problem is that it needs to be advertised a little more around the forums!

To be honest, I've missed a couple of votes because I haven't seen it around and I've forgotten to get around to it.

Either that or people have no idea what the MLPF world cup is and they don't bother looking.

 

Though I think there needs to be some kind of banner on the top of the forums so that more people check it out.

Personally I didn't know about the event until yesterday. I think you're fussing a bit too much over the details. If it's a friendlies match of votes, is it really important that hundreds of hundreds of ponies vote? 

Need more advertising.

The OP has multiple spoilers for keeping track of the tournament proceedings.

 

The spoiler under "World Cup Standings" will keep track of the # of wins/losses/ties, 'Votes For,' 'Votes Against,' 'Vote Differential,' and points earned from Wins or Ties.

 

The next spoiler under "World Cup Group Stages Schedule" gives the date each voting match will begin, and the pictures are the fan-made flags of each of the ponies participating. (First match is going to start June 11th, 9pm Eastern Standard Time, and will be Sweetie Belle vs Shining Armor and so on as explained in that link I gave you above!)

 

The "World Cup Knockout Stages Schedule" spoiler won't matter until June 26th, but it is the start of the elimination bracket of 16 teams, then 8, then 4, then 2 in the championship.

 

The "World Cup Results" spoiler will track recent voting results as they are completed.

 

The green picture below that will start being filled in June 26th when we reach the final 16 competitors.

 

Finally, a picture of the spirit of the games, Pyralis the phoenix, fan-made character with a description to remind everyone about the true spirit and purpose of the tournament!

Well there isn't much we can do about people not reading it if they don't check the most accessible advertising space on this site! haha How did the MM tournament get such a turn out? I joined the forum at the very end of March when that tourney was almost over! I didn't get to see how they advertised it other than the scrolling banner!

Please don't cancel the World Cup yet @Sterling Crimson ! A lot of us have been really looking forward to it! It's still a very big event that loads of members are looking forward to! I don't see how it's not already at the voting levels of March Madness... You deserve more votes, but remember, even if they don't come, you still have a lot of members eagerly awaiting the WC and eager to show their appreciation for it and you!
