My enjoyment of Filli Vanilli...

Now I love 'Filli Vanilli' as an episode by itself, I had no problems with Pinkie's characterization or anything, but my enjoyment of the episode has recently diminished. I was watching the review of Mr. Enter's (who I recommend you go check out) and he was very angry at how Pinkie was portrayed. I was going to leave a comment on how I respectfully disagreed, but then I read the comment section (bad idea in hindsight, it is YouTube after all). I was disgusted with the comments telling Mr. Enter and Amy Keating Rogers to "fuck off" and in at least one case "to kill themselves." I'm not sure why, but something in me snapped, not in a "I'm pissed off now" kind of way, more like a "I don't want this to happen ever again" depressed kind of way. Just the raw anger in the video, in the comments, on tumblr were too much for me. I didn't realize at the time, but after watching Mr. CobaltSky's commentary I realized that I can't rewatch the episode without getting depressed at how many people were angry to the point of ridiculing others, insulting others, and even telling them to kill themselves. I really don't want the writers to write Pinkie this way again, solely because of this.

I know that was a wall of text, and I know I shouldn't let it get to me, but I'm fairly certain it has. I just needed to get this off my chest and I wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience before that just makes you stop and question why? Why do people get that worked up? I completely understand emotional attachments to fictional characters (hell I'm getting really attached to Holo and Lawrence from "Spice and Wolf" as I am watching it for the first time), but why wish death upon another over it? This happened with 'Equestria Girls' too, but this time it REALLY got to me.

People get angry and butthurt easily even over an episode, so they choose not to accept anyone's opinions except their own because they think that their opinion matters the most. But telling someone to kill themselves because they have a different opinion on something where they have to convey their opinion, that's just sad.

Exactly my point, but I just don't why it got to me so much this time as opposed to others.

It's because, it rubbed you the wrong way while with others it didn't affect them as much.

Probably, I haven't said this on these forums, but I have manic depression. I guess it might be because I didn't expect John Enter to get so upset in his video, and the comments just sent me over the top. I'm sorry for this topic, I'm just upset.

He is usually upset with most of his reviews with episodes that he doesn't like. His Putting Your Hoof Down review is where he just blows his lid, so you don't have to apologize if you're upset about it.

I've noticed that Pinkie is written a little differently each episode, adding to her zanyness (zaniness?).

The episode to me was one of the weakest of Season 4, it was okay and I did enjoy it, but it wasn't my favorite.

My point was that  it doesn't matter if you don't like an episode. I understand completely. But people were telling others to commit suicide over their opinions on this episode. It's just jarring to see.

Mr. Enter used to be a good reviewer but shortly after S4 started he started doing the same overanalysing bullshit all the other guys like Digibrony do.

Though I guess telling him to kill himself over a review is over the top. If you want to refute his reviews (Which is a feat that anyone can do tbh) anger is not the solution.

EDIT: I linked a friend this and he pointed out the "Telling Amy Keating Rogers to fuck off line" How did Amy get into some reviewer's shitstorm?

Because she wrote the episode.

I hate how the fandom act as though brony analysts and reviewers are some sort of holy apostles. There's nothing wrong with agreeing with certain opinions and criticisms or having discussions with these kind of guys, but I'd much prefer forming my own opinions than blindly following a bunch of angry nerds on the internet

To be fair, Pinkie's behaviour bothered me a bit in this episode, but it wasn't as bad as most people make it out to be. It annoyed me, but I just shrugged and moved on, don't understand why most people are throwing a tantrum over this

Yea, it's annoying at times. I watch their analysis videos and reviews, because I like getting multiple opinions on an episode, but I rarely ever agree to the entirety of their opinions. Example: Joshscorcher's analysis matches my general view of the episode, but I love Fluttershy and the "first song was too G3" comment had me facepalming.

Just a reminder, the fandom has no vote or rights in the production of the show.

It's sad that you feel that way, but you can't let anyone, not even splendid reviewers to change what you trully feel about an episode, because in the end their opinions aren't really important.

Sounds harsh, because I complain too about some episodes, but that's not going to make it to change at all.

I'm feeling a bit better about everything now. I think I just needed to vent out my frustration and wait out my depressed state. Thank you all for understanding, and I will try not to let it get to me again. My opinions on 'Filli Vanilli' are going to remain positive, but you are welcome to disagree. Again, thank you all though for understanding.  :muffins:

if it helps you, I think Pinkie Pie was ok, annoying yes, on a very normal-Pinkie Pie level, but funny, tbh Pinkie was the only one that made laugh, because when I thought that she wouldn't continue anymore, she just continued saying worse things.

If you notice, she never said anything negative to Fluttershy, she always stressed the fact of which consequences Fluttershy would face for being a fantastic singer.

I can't understand why people can't see that.

Wow...I'll be honest, I haven't even seen the episode in question, but I've been going through a very, very similar issue with games and game criticism. So many gamers lately are taking a hobby they love, and treating the people who pretty much devote their lives to the furthering of that hobby - and wishing them DEATH for not making games as perfectly as they like, or for wishing fewer gamers pirated their games, or for declaring they're leaving games because they get too many death threats.

I'm kind of thankful, then, that I haven't seen such extreme opinions among bronies in my own experience. I guess in some ways, it's just the internet in general that's something to be disappointed in.

It was never about that, it was the massive backlash, anger, negativity, and close-mindedness of the comments that made me upset. I'm ok with differing opinions (I love debating with others), but seeing the shitstorm of hateful comments on YouTube drove me over the edge.

I liked filli Vanillli.

I.....li....resp.....

i know about mr enter.

I don't hate everything he does.
but he's a bigger jerk than the voice of reason on Voice's worse day.

I enjoyed hearing Mr enter talk about dusk dawn.

And he's great for talking truly terrible things.

His Equistrian girls review was fun.

I've been swayed on my views on things before,

but when i watch Filli V. my mind goes "I'm enjoying this."

I've gone back and looked at it and my mind still goes "I'm still enjoying this."

Is it perfect?  No.  Is it top 10 awesome?  no.

Might it be in the top 10 of season 4?

Eh sure why not.

Mr Enter is good for mystery science theater level views of content.

IMHO.

I find it jarring when he talks about "this is all i'm good at."

That's certainly a liberal review sir.

Every episode I've ever seen of FiM has made me smile, smile, smile. To me that's the only thing that matters. I think it really depends on your reason for being a fan a watching. If you are in it for the art, or for the plots, etc... I can see someone getting more (as someone else put it) butthurt than someone who just gets joy out of it for its purity, innocence, and feel goodness.

Well, I didn't either. It made me frown in a series that makes me smile usually. That's a crime against the show's purpose. Yeah, HasBRO! But really, otherwise it was flawless. It did a great imitation of Pitch Perfect in some ways, without possible copyright infringement.
