Would bronies still exist if the internet was never made?

As far as I'm concerned, life actually wouldn't be much different. Before dial up online services brought us to the Internet for the first time, they brought us to BBS's (many could even be dialed into directly). After someone dressed as "Max Headroom" broke onto WGN-TV and WTTW in Chicago (

), the local hacker community was all over their BBS's talking about it. Not only were they good for chatting, but you could also share files and do lots of other things.

 

If the Internet we know today never came to be, it likely would have been made up for with local grassroots Computer Networks run by individuals and backboned with leased fiber links (just as how APRANET was backboned with Leased T1 lines from the Bell System). They could even work together with servers connected between them.

 

And yes, Bronies would exist, and so would Occupy Wall Street.

No, I don't think bronies would exist, maybe the show wouldn't have 4 seasons since it would be considered as another typical MLP cartoon. Guess that I would be out hanging with my friends, or playing outside... spending time with my fam... Okay, a life without internet would be probably better for me.

 

It's sacry to think of a universe without bronies, I mean, I don't know what would I do, or what would my favorite cartoon be.

I know I wouldn't be a brony if it wasn't for the internet, because I found it through the internet and I don't watch too much TV

The internet had a large hand in this fandom, and I don't believe that we would be where we are today if it were not invented. However, I don't believe that we would be non-existant, mostly because of television. Yes, some of us would see the show and like it, but we wouldn't tell anyone, and most certainly wouldn't make fan art or fiction. We wouldn't be able to.

 

As for life in general without the internet, well, I and a few friends of mine went without internet for the first few years of our lives. Comparing the way I live today versus the way I lived back then, not counting being a child, I believe that we as a species would be more active, social, and understanding. We wouldn't stay in our houses staring at screens as often as we do. While it does provide us with more ways to interact, there are negatives. For example, our slang text terms that most everyone uses. lol, for example. We wouldn't use that, because we wouldn't need to.

 

And yes, I know, "Oh, but if we had phones and texting, we'd probably use it." I'm not saying that we wouldn't use it, ever, period. But I personally believe that while the internet may have come along later physically, it was invented conceptually long before phones were invented physically.

Sure it does, some guy came up with it on 4chan or whatever, if the internet wasn't around 4chan wouldn't exist, and thus the name would probably not exist.

I think it still would've started but would be a lot smaller given 4chan and other social sites really kicked it all off.

Maybe; then again maybe not. The name could have been spread via other ways. I didn't find out about it by going on 4chan (I don't even go there, period). Perhaps you should look at my earlier posting on this topic.

It would have been hard. Without the internet, and hence 4chan, there wouldn't have been a very big source for ponies and talk to go on. Not to mention people can be a lot more open about their beliefs on the internet because of the anonymity. I probably wouldn't even have known about MLP if it weren't for YouTube and memebase, so the fandom would not have been very large, and its population could have been too small to sustain itself for a while. Besides, who would you tell that you liked a show about colorful ponies in real life?

 

I guess what I'm saying is that perhaps the fandom would exist without the internet, but we would be more isolated from each other.

I would say no, but I've seen the D&D and MTG fanbase, and they were big even before the internet was common.
