This is from Murmaider by Metalocalypse:

Deep under water

Nothing to tie one to a crime

And if you seek vengeance

All you need are instruments of pain

You need your

Johnny Cash - Hurt

http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aF9AJm0RFc

I hurt myself today

To see if I still feelI focus on the pain

The only thing that's real

The needle tears a hole

The old familiar sting

Try to kill it all away

But I remember everything

What have I become

My sweetest friend

Everyone I know goes away In the end

And you could have it all

My empire of dirt

I will let you down

I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of thorns

Upon my liar's chair

Full of broken thoughts

I cannot repair

Beneath the stains of time

The feelings disappear

You are someone else

I am still right here

What have I become

My sweetest friend

Everyone I know goes away

In the end

And you could have it all

My empire of dirt

I will let you down

I will make you hurt

If I could start again

A million miles away

I would keep myself

I would find a way

The most beautiful song ever written. I know that NIN made the original version but I find Cash's waaaay better...

Dirty Laundry by Don Henley

I make my living off the Evening News

Just give me something-something I can use

People love it when you lose,

They love dirty laundry

Well, I coulda been an actor, but I wound up here

I just have to look good, I don't have to be clear

Come and whisper in my ear

Give us dirty laundry

Kick 'em when they're up

Kick 'em when they're down

Kick 'em when they're up

Kick 'em when they're down

Kick 'em when they're up

Kick 'em when they're down

Kick 'em when they're up

Kick 'em all around

We got the bubble-headed-bleach-blonde who

Comes on at five

She can tell you 'bout the plane crash with a gleam

In her eye

It's interesting when people die-

Give us dirty laundry

Can we film the operation?

Is the head dead yet?

You know, the boys in the newsroom got a

Running bet

Get the widow on the set!

We need dirty laundry

I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.

See how they run like pigs from a gun, see how they fly.

I'm crying.

Sitting on a cornflake, waiting for the van to come.

Corporation tee-shirt, stupid bloody tuesday.

Man, you been a naughty boy, you let your face grow long.

I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.

I am the walrus, goo goo g'joob.

Sabaton - Cliffs of Gallipoli

It's a song about the Battle of Gallipoli in the first World War. Here is my favourite part of the lyrics:

How many wasted lives?

How many dreams did fade away?

Broken promises, they won't be coming home.

Oh mothers wipe your tears,

your sons will rest a million years.

Found their peace at last

As foes turned to friends and forgive.

And they knew they would die...

A bunch of songs from Death's Symbolic album. It's so hard to pick favorite lyrics without reciting the entire song!

Empty Words:

Ashes and promises share a bond

Through the winds of change

Words are blown away

When visions that should be

Are tattooed in your mind

The power to let go

Is sometimes hard to find

The answer cannot be found

In the writing of others

Or the words of a trained mind

In a precious world of memories

We find ourselves confined

Claws so razor sharp

Ripping at the spirit

[Chorus:]

Promises a potential to hurt

Is anything real?

When forever is to be until

Deep inside, in the world of empty words...

No escaping from those haunting

empty words...

[solo: Schuldiner]

Do you ever feel it?

A craving that is so strong

To by thought rewind in order to find

Expectations that shined through the doubt

That soon would turn into the price

Of what a word will be worth

When tomorrow comes

To be and we are left

Standing on our own-

And seeing what is real...

The answer cannot be found

In the writing of others

Or the words of a trained mind

In a precious world of memories

We find ourselves confined

Claws so razor sharp

Ripping at the spirit

[Repeat chorus]

Without Judgement:

Guilty until proven innocent

We condemn your soul and fate

Never mind the possibilities

Too busy for logic or to calculate

Take part in a diminishing breed

Where complex turns to simplicity

When pain is acknowledged

Frivolous calculations will be abolished

[Chorus:]

Without judgement what would we do?

We would be forced to look

At ourselves emerged in lost time

Assuming what may be

Without judgement

Perception would increase a million times

[solo: Schuldiner]

Distracted by imagination

That experiments with ease

If you could taste it, it might be addictive

Where life will crush those who defy

Take part in a diminishing breed

Where complex turns to simplicity

When pain is acknowledged

Frivolous calculations will be abolished

[Repeat chorus]

Perennial Quest (this one is probably my favorite of favorites):

The journey begins with curiosity

And envolves into soul-felt questions

On the stones that we walk

And choose to make our path

Sometimes never knowing

Other times knowing too much

Filtering out the bad that holds us back...

Take hold of what is true to your hunger

A hunger that will not go away

Plans for tomorrow, they will remain

[Chorus:]

Won't you join me on the perennial quest

Reaching into the dark, retrieving light

Search for answers on the perennial quest

Where dreams are followed, and time is a test

No time for mental crutches

The maker has moved on

I will take it raw and be on my way

Those that stood beside me

I'm glad you understand

Behind these written words

I share the simple plan

To hang on to the way that we feel

[solo: Koelble / Solo: Schuldiner]

From rivers of sorrow

To oceans deep with hope

I have travelled them

Now, there is no turning back

The limit, the sky

I ask my questions Why? What today?

When tomorrow?

Filtering out the bad that holds us back...

Take hold of what is true to your hunger

A hunger that will not go away

Plans for tomorrow, they will remain

[Repeat chorus]

The entirety of Another Holy War by Blind Guardian, but I'm just gonna post a part of it.

Sooner or later you must understand

My words bring freedom

And rescue for man

What else,

To call me your Messiah

Oh, I wish there could be another way

Cross and nails are already prepared

My sell out

Waits till I'm crucified

I will die before my vision ends

Why am I born

Will I fail to rise again

Another Crucifixion for

Another holy war

All of Velvet Kevorkian by SYL. I would show you the lyrics, but I find them to be incorrect to what's being said.

Other than that, the only lyric I actually like is from Save Yourself by Overkill.

Don't you look so fuckin' sad,

I'll beat you like you never had!

God, that Jersey attitude is so prominent in that line, it's endearing.

My favourite lyrics right now are from Twilight Omens

I wrote your name upon the back of my hands

Slept upon it and i woke up with it

Backwards on my face

Reading forwards to my mirror

To my heart

Twilight omens in my life

Then i hear your name

Hear the radio sing your name, baby

Should i give you a call

What can i say:

Baby, you still feel the same.

I typed your number into my calculator

Where it's spelled as your word

When you turn it upside down

You can turn my dirty world

The bright way round

Twilight omens in my life

Then i hear your name

Hear the radio sing your name

Should give you a call

What can i say:

Oh, maybe i still feel the same.

Twilight omens in my life

Keep hearing your name

Keep hearing your name

Keep hearing your name

Keep hearing you sing your name

Keep hearing you sing your name

Keep hearing you sing your naaaaame

  • 10 months later...

Well, it's been a while since I posted a topic and I feel like I should post this.

So, what's your favorite song lyrics?

Well, I think my favorite song lyrics would have to be this stanza in Vanilla Twilight:

"The stars lean down to kiss you,

And I lie awake and miss you,

Pour me a heavy dose of atmosphere"

I know, it's kind of soft but it's just my opinion.

MLP or not, what's your favorite song lyrics?

The first verse of Come Alive by Foo Fighters really impressed me:

Seems like only yesterday

Life belonged to runaways

Nothing here to see, no looking back

Every sound monotone

Every colour monochrome

Life began to fade into the black

Such a simple animal

Sterilised with alcohol

I can hardly feel me any more

Desperate, meaningless

All filled up with emptiness

Felt like everything was said and done

I lay there in the dark, and I closed my eyes

You saved me the day you came alive

The whole of Come Alive is a flat-out sensational song, but this section of the lyrics is especially exceptional. Describing the bleakness of that stasis where you think hope is lost and there's nothing to live for. The reversal of motives is brilliant; "All filled up with emptiness" a way to describe how life will suppress you if you find no purpose in it; "Every sound monotone, every colour monochrome" even the smallest details in life become the same old, something we understand from "Seems like only yesterday".

It's also genius in the fact that every third line is a resultant scenario - the other two lines are the current state of affairs leading up to that third line. "Seems like only yesterday, life belonged to runaways" and as a result of that "Nothing here to see, no looking back". That happens another three times in that first verse, and the intricacy of the writing is otherworldly.

It's each component of that first verse, tying in with the acoustic guitar playing B minor in the background, setting the stance for the POV of the song, continuing into B minor as the last two lines are sang - and then suddenly switching into B major as the final line is read - turning the tide of depression and creating a sense of hope.

Actually, Come Alive is my favourite ever song.

Progress, a word that defines a process

That's inevitable when moving forward

The process of leaving things behind you

Seeking to improve yourself and learn from decisions you've made in the past

It ain't easy to face yourself

It ain't easy to acknowledge that the path you chose before the one you're about to chose now

Led you the other way

And what feel goods today, could turn into bitter sourness tomorrow

You can't control this

Nor should you ever want to control this

Now, you may look upon uncertainty

As if this is a curse

You could choose to see it as a gift

A blessing in disguise 'cause it will force you to keep yourself on the edge

Striving for bigger and better things

It will force you to move forward

And reach for that high level you've been aiming for

It will give you power, courage

And conviction to make the choices you need to make

And every choice will have the concequences

You won't be able to escape from them

But the risk you take when you make them

Will turn into the reward you deserve

And ultimately

Bring out the best you'll ever have

Progress

I have a few that I really like.

"Stairway to Heaven". Strong ballad. My favorite rock song. Especially the last part:

"And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all, yeah
To be a rock and not to roll
And she's buying a stairway to Heaven"

Then there is "Come on sweet death" from the movie "The End of Evangelion". It's... very sad but kinda happy at the same time:

"I know, I know I've let you down
I've been a fool to myself
I thought that I could
live for no one else
But now through all the hurt and pain
It's time for me to respect
the ones you love
mean more than anything
So with sadness in my heart
I feel the best thing I could do
is end it all
and leave forever
what's done is done, it feels so bad
what once was happy now is sad
I'll never love again
my world is ending"

"If men define situations as real, they are real in their consequences."

I really like the lyrics of 'Lullabye bye' by Dr Steel.

There once was a boy, a robotic boy,
with a crank sticking out of his brain.
He never performed with sadness or joy
he was just simply programmed to sing.

So he sang.
So he sang.
So he sang.

So he sang until the melody
With no one around this robot fell down,
and the crank it broke off of his head.
With the jar to his hard drive he felt all alive:
The old robot he used to be dead.

There was rage in his brain!
There was pain in his frame!
There was love, there was hunger and strife!
He felt lonely, rejected, at times disconnected!
No answer to the meaning of life!

So he sang.
So he sang.
So he sang.
So he sang.

At first, the lyrics just look strange and meaningless. However, when you look closer at them you realize that there is a much deeper meaning to the song than you'd first expect. The first verse refers to how people are raised. We don't ask why, we don't care
we just do it because it's what we were taught to do. But eventually we come to realize the wrongs of the world, we ask questions, we want to know why it has to be this way, we rebel against society (referring to teenage years maybe?)

But after a while we realize we can't correct it, or if we can we don't know what to do other than what we were taught to do, e.g. sing. We continue, despite still not fully understanding. Or maybe it is just a really strange song and I'm over analyzing it. Still love it though.

And how can you not love this?

Hey You by Pink Floyd.

Hey you! out there in the cold
Getting lonely, getting old, can you feel me
Hey you! Standing in the aisles
With itchy feet and fading smiles, can you feel me
Hey you! don't help them to bury the live
Don't give in without a fight.
Hey you! out there on your own
Sitting naked by the phone would you touch me
Hey you! with your ear against the wall
Waiting for someone to call out would you touch me
Hey you! would you help me to carry the stone
Open your heart, I'm coming home
But it was only a fantasy
The wall was too high as you can see
No matter how he tried he could not break free
And the worms ate into his brain.
Hey you! out there on the road
Always doing what you're told, can you help me
Hey you! out there beyond the wall
Breaking bottles in the hall, can you help me
Hey you! don't tell me there's no hope at all
Together we stand, divided we fall.

The summer's gone
I been awake awhile just waiting for a sign
On my roof at dawn
I am imagining the sunset in your eye
Demon town

Well in a way
It's rather sad to see the good times ebb and flow
But there's another day
I'm slowly realizing that's the way it goes
And how I've known

The pleasure in the find
The chivalry in the spy
At night I see my own reflection in the wine
Can finally see the scope of everything that's mine

In the months ahead
Through a window pane anticipating swells
The flower beds
Many winter nights I sleep beside myself
Alone again

A billow without the bright
A stone without the right
But i can take my inspiration from the pine
And how the wood grain makes such intricate designs

After all was said and done
Our ways were paid in different sums
It shoved me down but it showed me who I am

Now that all this trouble's through
I hope someday someone like you
Will come around and do the same again

The treasure without the find
The thought without a mind

Maybe good fortune's not repeatedly assigned?
I guess I won't know for sure until the day you're mine

The game is never ending
No escape
Here's something you don't understand
Well, that's your mistake
Pain for pleasure, pleasure for pain
Hooks through your skin like a needle in the brain

Parasitoris, razor blade, blood on the mattress, reincarnate
It's time to play so don't be a tease
You summoned us up, now it's time to please
This isn't a dream and all is not well
Your suffering will be legendary
Even in hell

The doctor is in
What's your pleasure, sir?
You want my reccomendation
I say amputation

Now is the time, time to lose reality
There's so many things to see in the other world
Now you're here, you can scream it's a dream
Nothing you have ever seen in this other place
It's the time, time to lose reality
There's so many things to see in this other world
Now you're here, you can scream it's a dream
Nothing you have ever seen
Lost without a trace

Now your head is spinning, your mind's gone wild
Lost like a rat in a maze
You know you can't escape me, child
I can see you from miles away
It's from your mistakes that you can learn
Play with fire, you're sure to get burned
Well, I'm the fire in the hole
And I'm here to burn your soul

The torture is your subconscious desire
A lesson in ecstasy
You wear your skin so well, deciever
Through those eyes I can't see
Smile as the living arrow enters
And to think I waited this long

Now is the time, time to lose reality
There's so many things to see in the other world
Now you're here, you can scream it's a dream
Nothing you have ever seen in this other place
It's the time, time to lose reality
There's so many things to see in this other world
Now you're here, you can scream it's a dream
Nothing you have ever seen
Lost without a trace

Now is the time
Time to lose reality
There's so many things to see
When you're in this other world
