The first one. As I've said before it introduces the characters perfectly and hooks you into the series, although first I'd show them odd clips on youtube as a little teaser.

Hello there. Your thread was primarily concerned with members sharing their opinions on the best episodes to introduce the show to non-bronies or haters, and there was an older topic that was concerned with the best episode to introduce the show period. As these topics generally overlap massively, and members will name many of the same episodes for many of the same reasons with each, they have been merged.

I know your answers weren't directed at me, they served as good advice. I showed "Lesson Zero" to my brother Earlier today and at the end he said he's "slightly addicted." (I asked him if he wanted to watch the one where the main character goes crazy or the one with time travel. He chose the crazy one.) By the way he's almost 10.

+1 Brony!

I would just probably show them the 1st episode but out of the other ones it would have to be The Sonic Rainboom or A Canterlot Wedding just because those two episodes are epic and would probably appeal more to people who have never watched the show before.

I showed my friend s2 ep1 Return of Harmony. He watched 2 mins and decided immediately that it was 'gay and cheesy'. He can't have even got to the part with Discord :(

Obviously the best episode to introduce a friend to would be......ANY episode with Princess Luna in it laugh.png because we all know Luna is best pony/princess im not biased at all when saying that wink.png but seriously id go with Luna Eclipsed. Thats my personal fave.

I have to agree with others in that Lesson Zero would be a good way to show that this series is not necessarily like "typical girls' shows".  I mean, even ignoring the main story of Twilight losing her mind over the course of the day, you still got:

  • Rarity's dramatic overreacting
  • Sonic RainNuke
  • Fluttershy looking like she's *killing a bear*

If Insane!Twilight doesn't do it, one of these certainly will.

I'd give Lesson Zero as a tantalizing hook, and then start with episode 1.

Well I would say The first episode but if he picks another that won't give out to much info then I would go with Lesson Zero of not the first episode :)

Hi. I want to show my Dad an episode, one that would show just how awesome and cool this show is, but I'm trying to decide which one would be the best for a first time viewing. Naturally, I started on the first episode with plans on watching the whole series. But if you had to pick just one to show to your parent, which episode would you pick?

I'm leaning towards "Best Pet Win"

Do you mean "May the Best Pet Win"?

I don't think it would be a good choice, since he might want to see more action.

I would recommend any of the two part episodes, since those are more of an adventure type of thing.

I would tend to the pilot, really. That's the way I got hooked. Okay, maybe it was easy because I know how... mediocre or awful some first episodes of a series feel. I have watched plenty of different series and I feel about it that way quite often... And then "Applebuck Season" got me...

But if I had to pick just one episode...

Hmmm...

Maybe "It's About Time". It's subject is something that an older viewer might better identify with. And besides, it doesn't tell too much about the backstories by itself, so you could answer some questions, or if he get's even really interested, let him then watch from the very beginning.

Bronify your dad!

... I can't believe I just typed that...

@@ytsebrony20,

Hello there. We already happened to have a thread dedicated ot discussing which episodes are best to introduce the show to people who have never seen it before, and as this was the subject of your topic, I have merged it with the older one.

Lesson Zero does a good job at dispelling misconceptions about the show in my opinion. Read it and Weep might work too because of the reference.

I certainly wouldn't start off with a "crazy" episodes like Lesson Zero. While it's a funny episode, a lot of people would probably be creeped out by Twilight's behavior. It's not ideal to start with because it will give someone pre-conceived notions that Twilight is insane. Let the viewer get to know Twilight before showing them that episode. wink.png

I would recommend Fall Weather Friends to a younger male viewer. For one thing, it features Applejack and Rainbow Dash, who are the two least feminine ponies, so boys will be able to identify with them quicker and easier than the other four. The episode is packed with action, wit, and classic cartoon humor. It's two strong and athletic ponies trying to best each other in a series of events. Right away that proves that this show is not just for younger girls, and that all girly girl stereotypes that plague girls' television is thrown out the window.

The first episode my older brother ever watched was Fall Weather Friends, and although he wouldn't admit it at the time, I could tell he enjoyed the episode, later proclaiming that "Rainbow Dash and Applejack are the two coolest ponies," after he got used to the show. I wouldn't say he's a Brony, but he respects the show and the fandom. We've shared some laughs in several episodes since.

I have to go with Winter Wrap Up.

A good look at the quality animation (sans the error of the 3-legged Cheerilee), a good spotlight on every main character, as well as the best song of the first season.

DEFINATELY NOT ANY OF THE FIRST EPISODES! Show him:

1.) party of one

2.) Lesson Zero

3.) The two season 2 launch episodes.

4.) The one where twilight goes back in time.. Forgot what it was called.

5.) Hearth's Warming eve

6.) The one where Fluttershy learns not to be a pushover.. Forgot what that one was called too. :I

Always this, don't start off with episodes that paint this as a little girls show, which it is, kinda. Or else you'll never hook him in.

I am a Brony. I love being a Brony, Twilight is best pony.

I think the season 2 premier is a good one with discord in it, or maybe something random like to many pinkie pies, or show how dark the show can go with party of one, or something along those lines. Or if you want start with the pilot episodes.

It depends I guess a little on what type of person they are, hard to choose a best, I think theres a good list of them, but I'd try to pick one without a song, until they warm up to the show, or you could also show them winter wrap up and show them the wonderful music in the show, may or may not be successful.
