Do you feel the MLP series doesn't worldbuild as much?

When you think about it, MLP:FIM the series hasn't really covered much in the way of worldbuilding. A lot of the events take place in Ponyville or Canterlot, or the Everfree Forest. But in things like the books, the comics, the movie, the mane 6 go to different places on their adventures, different countries; Aquastria, Flutter Valley, alternate dimensions, get to know about and help mermares, Sea ponies, flutter ponies, siren hippocampi, Kelpie, pirates, Starswirl backstory- even Spike and Celestia get their own adventure....and we don't really get all of that in the show. SHOULD we, seeing as how most consider only the show to be canon? SHOULD we be seeing these adventures in the various books and comics and movies incorporated as characters and adventure arcs in the show series?

I would like to see it, but as the show has a very heavy "slice of life" style and episodes, it does not lend itself easily to grand adventure quests or explorations of far flung continents (and their adventure arcs are normally the weaker of the episodes). But with the mane 6 now going around Equestria to solve friendship issues, I personally think the show should flesh out more of its darker corners, and perhaps even more of it's planet in general. A easy way to do so would be to have it as background info, either shown as maps and signs, with background characters discussing it, or have it be a part of a larger story.

They're going to explore at least one new place in Season 5...now that they'll have that big map thingy that was revealed in the animatic, it's more likely that they'll go to a wider variety of places throughout the show - especially if there are at least a few more seasons beyond the fifth.

I have the feeling Season Five is going to be full of world building. The castle Twi has is the perfect plot device for it as showed by the leaked footage. They have been referencing Saddle Arabia a few times, and I would not be surprised if sea ponies or breezies make an episode or two.

There are two types of world building that we have seen in the show - I shall call then Uncle Travelling Matt and Wiki-Ponia. We have gotten a crap ton of information about the world of Equestria and beyond from dialog and exposition. Some better handled than others, I admit. We have seen some great Travelling Matt scenes as well. It is that later type that I expect a bit of an increase in Season 5. However do not expect 16 episodes to be a Mane Six world tour. I would say the premier and finale will be typical and about 6-8 episodes of travelling - MAX.

personally, I'd like to see the Flutter ponies be brought in, rather than a return of the Breezies.

I can only hope that season 5 has more 'roadtrips' and adventures in places outside Ponyville (and Equestria in general)

I just feel its hardly fair that different media outside of the main series has a monopoly on MLP worldbuilding than the actual show has.

I could of gone without the breezies sounding like the Sweedish Chef from the muppets but I would like to explore their land a bit more. I don't think Flutter ponies going to be a thing in g4 since we have one of the mane six with Flutter in her name. I would LOVE to explore Zebra culture and where Zecora came from though!

I would love to see some world building in Season 5 for sure, and I am almost sure we will get to see some new places, based on the animatic that was released a few months ago. At the same time, I wouldn't want MLP to have less of the slice of life episodes that attracted me to the show in the first place. So far, I am content with the comics and the books doing some semi-canon world building while the show focuses more on the characters' lives.

I feel that the show has done a little bit of world building as of late, but I would love to see more. :) I'd really like for the mane six to go to Hollow Shades, Fillydelphia, and Los Pegasus.

oh yes, YES! YES! to Hollow Shades

Yes, they really take time to build up the world. Hopefully in Season 5 we'll see more areas. For example I would really want to see Las Pegasus because it sounds really interesting. It sounds like it could have casinos. Manehattan was mentioned in Season 1 but the Mane 6 didn't travel there until Season 4.

I think the comics do a great job of expanding the world of the show. It's a great companion series IMHO. However, I think the focus of the show is less on world building, and more on the lessons of friendship. I agree that there is a lot of potential to explore the world beyond Equestria, but I think as a network TV series, FiM has its limitations imposed by Hasbro, as well as by its very nature as a family friendly TV show. For whatever reason, it appears that the comic staff can get away with a little more. It probably works to the advantage of the comics that the show handles the majority of character development, and the comics can then explore additional facets of the Mane Six and others, or perhaps just focus on world building. There is no doubt that Equestria is only a fraction of the wold the ponies live in. Based on the season 5 preview, I think there will be at least a tiny bit of exploration of other places.

The first two seasons were undeniably the ones that did much of the worldbuilding, with lots of history, holidays, customs and whatnot. That's gone a little by the wayside in the last two, but with all rumours saying that the ponies are going to take the show on the road a little more often than they did in previous seasons there may be some new things to see yet. (I hope they go to Vanhoover!)
