Ok, let's ignore the fact I found Molestia a pretty funny tumblr with nothing more serious than anything else I have seen people do. Let's ignore the fact that I think this is a case of free speech vs free speech, since PinkiePony wanted to have something shut down (which she has every right to talk about) and the Molestia creators have every right to continue their work (since that is also free speech). Lastly, let's ignore her own hypocritical artwork. After reading both sides of this, all I can say is this; She was a dumb girl who did dumb things, and people overracted. However, I do feel she had no right to act as she did, nor do I feel anyone has the right to tell someone they can't make content so long as said content is kept in it's appropriate areas and out of areas where audiences who should not see it can see it. This is why we have spoilers, tags, and content locks. If you let your child see these things, you are partially to blame as there are many, many ways to keep children out of the darker sections of the internet, like not giving them a computer. I don't think PinkiePony deserved as much hate as she got, however I do feel that she had no right to take down this tumblr, just like I don't agree with anyone who tries to put down any group, so long as said group is not being harmful towards others.
I would like to point out, as a brony, that I gave this fandom a chance because I wanted to be a part of something that was willing to be accepting and kind to everyone, as their own group was hated on and ostracized due to their love of a show that was not a part of their specific gender assignment. However, all I have seen since, is a very hateful, rude, and blunt group, and sometimes I wonder who the truly disgusting side is, the ones that want to shut down bronies or the bronies themselves.
While I don't agree with the level of hate directed at her, simply saying "She's a dumb kid who says dumb things" and then acting like she doesn't deserve at least minor backlash is like saying someone with anger issues who hits their bf/gf doesn't deserve to have legal action taken against them. Except in this case, it is worse, since as a kid she needs to understand that people like certain things and that she cannot just take on these crusades like this whenever she sees something she doesn't like. This attitude is what leads to groups like the WBC having their absolutely disgusting propaganda spread during a soldier's funeral, all because they didn't like someone. At that point, is it the soldier's family's fault that their son/daughter fought for this country, or the WBC who is doing this crusade? I mean, the WBC is fighting against something that is "wrong" in some circles, why shouldn't they have the right to take to the streets with their words? Now I am not trying to say that PinkiePony is as bad as the WBC, all I am saying is that where do we draw the line between where "Let people say what they want to say" and "Dumb kids will say dumb things" becomes abuse, verbal assault, and vitriol towards others?
