  1. I prefer to eat healthy, but since leaving my job last August to go back to school, it's been much more difficult. I don't have the time to prepare all of my meals myself except for most weekends, so I mainly have to rely on whatever is offered by dining services on campus. Unfortunately, where I am, that usually means a choice between something that's healthy and something that tastes good. When I cook, I can incorporate both of those qualities into my meals regularly. At the very least, I stopped drinking soda every day a few years ago. Now I only have one soda every two months or so.
  2. I'm only subscribed to one Let's Player, and that's Markiplier. I've watched soooooooo many of his videos, it's insane. The first one I watched was Enviro-Bear 2000, which is hysterical. I'm also going to mention Two Best Sisters Play. I know it's not exactly the same as what we're talking about, but it's awesome. Go check it out.
  3. I disagree with the notion that there's nothing on Youtube anymore except for Let's Plays, reaction videos, and reviews. There's still plenty of good content out there that's worth watching. I use it for the aforementioned varieties of videos, but also for music videos, fan made productions, creepy pastas, documentaries, social commentary, etc. Certain things like top ten lists get old pretty quickly (I can't stand WatchMojo), but as long as they're still popular, people will continue to make them. Channels earn income based on views or based on how much time their viewers spend watching their videos, so of course people will post this sort of content. Ads were frankly inevitable as a source of income, and with the prevalence of users employing ad blocking software, Youtube had no choice but to create Youtube Red. Personally, I've disabled Adblock on Youtube, as well as on this site and Equestria Daily, because I want to support them but can't really afford to pay anything. In a nutshell, the viewers are the ones who dictate what happens to any form of social media. Unless a site is publicly funded, ad revenue or subscription services are certain to manifest. If the viewers don't buy into either one, or find a way to circumvent them, the site has to come up with another way to make money. And the people who create videos, unless making money from the site isn't a big concern for them, will post a lot of content which is more likely to get a greater amount of views. That doesn't mean there is no good content out there. It does mean that if you want to see more good content, you have to pay more attention to it than to all of the fluff.
  4. No trick-or-treaters this year, just like last year. I guess I'm going to have to eat these full size Snickers myself.

I also agree with much of what she's saying in that video. I like how she points out that the drop in her audience's age range might simply be because she speaks to her audience like they were children, and not necessarily because the younger generations are being exposed to more and more media of a sexual nature (not to say that isn't an issue, but using that data in that way is misleading). I think she might also be right about Laci having a double standard concerning "poor decisions". Laci seems to be saying that only women suffer when a poor decision is made, but as Diana points out, men are often accused, and frequently convicted, of rape as a result. I'm not sure how I feel about Diana's argument relating to that 12 year old's music video. Laci does say that people of that age are "distracted" by puberty. Diana therefore says that complaining about a sexualized 12 year old is a double standard, but I disagree. I think that Laci's real complaint is about the age at which a person is mature enough to explore sexuality responsibly. Please let me know if I'm interpreting that section incorrectly. I think that Diana does have a valid point concerning the types of Halloween costumes offered to women - that is, nobody buys a costume they don't feel comfortable wearing. I could be wrong on that front, though, and I'm curious to hear what other people think. Agree with her or not, Diana does impart an important message in her video. If you're going to give people advice on sexuality, you need to speak to them as adults, be consistent, explain why your opinions change if and when they do, think carefully about the consequences which might occur if people do follow your advice, and above all, encourage people to take responsibility. Based on this video, I'm not convinced that Laci is setting a positive example. Also, she seems very intense and full of conviction in her videos, which, given the subject matter, is scary. My personal philosophy is that in all things (except religion), we must accept the possibility that we are wrong.
  6. I've been debating this in my head ever since watching Friendship Games (and then re-watching it). It's definitely a close competition between the two movies, but I think Friendship Games comes out just ahead for me because of the overall moral of each film. (Decided to put that in a spoiler because maybe(?) that gives away something about the plot of each film.)
  7. Just watched Friendship Games for the second time. Apparently the first time I was too tired to realize how awesome it is.

  8. I think this is an interesting question, since every princess we've been made aware of so far is an alicorn, and the question has been asked of whether all princesses are alicorns or if all alicorns are princesses. If the former is true, then it'd be simple to imagine that all princes are alicorns, too. Except that Prince Blueblood exists, and he's a unicorn, not an alicorn. My own opinion is that a stallion could become an alicorn through some process like the one Twilight underwent, but if one were to become an alicorn, would they automatically be called a prince? Could an alicorn who is not royalty exist?

Frankly, I'm unsure of what to post to this topic, as well, other than the introduction I made. I suppose I could talk about an experience I had here at my college a few weeks ago. I belong to a politics club which meets every one or two weeks and talks about some agreed upon subject. Last week it was the death penalty, and the previous week it was the Syrian refugee crisis. Articles and videos containing background information are sent to the members of the club, and then we meet and have a debate. Somebody brought up feminism as one potential topic to discuss, but there was some tangible anxiety from certain members of the club, and the idea was shot down for fear that people would be at each other's throats. In fact, I've encountered very similar reactions when interacting with other groups here at college, as well. Has anyone else experienced the same difficulty with initiating a conversation about feminism, and does anyone have any advice on how to resolve it? It seems strange that we can openly discuss things like corporal punishment and refugee crises and not feel comfortable talking about gender inequality.
  10. I can't imagine how it's possible for me to cease being a brony, or anything else I've identified with in the past (except for specific beliefs, as in religion). It would require some serious brainwashing for that to happen. A good example for myself is my identification as a furry. I have virtually no involvement in the furry community anymore, and don't even search for art anymore, but it's a part of me, and I still rock a raccoon tail sometimes and entertain the idea of attending a convention or meetup. Things that became important for me at some time in my life and then died out, or seemed to die out, don't get snuffed out entirely. That said, this feels different from all of those other things I became involved with in my life. I've never felt quite so good about anything else I've become interested in, or so compatible with it. But maybe I'm caught up in the fervor of it all. What I know is that I have my music, and the episodes, and the movies, and my shirts and all of my other pony merchandise, and I don't see myself throwing any of that away at any point in the future.
  11. Depressed. Haven't had the energy to do anything except watch videos. Feel like whatever I do is just killing time.
  12. When I was about four, I was at Kmart with my mom and my brother. I asked my mom for a Kit-Kat bar, but she said no, so I secretly grabbed it and put it in my pocket. I was eating it in the car when my brother gave me away. Suffice to say, I've never stolen again (unless we include music piracy) (which I don't do anymore) (but I don't feel good about not doing for some reason).
  13. I meant no offense, and I did say that it's probably the closest example the show would ever get. The main point of my post was to say that having Big Mac like feminine things is not necessarily just for the sake of comedy, but could be construed as questioning the validity of gender norms. I apologize if my post was poorly conceived, as that certainly wasn't my intention.
  14. I'm not convinced that this portrayal of Big Mac is entirely for the sake of comedy. Rather, maybe he's the closest we'll ever get to a transgender character in the show, which I think is pretty cool. He actually reminds me a lot of myself. He loves stuffed animals/dolls but is afraid of anyone else finding out, in his dreams he likes taking on a feminine role, and from what I saw of the preview of Brotherhooves Social (haven't watched the full episode, yet), isn't averse to dressing like a lady. If he were constantly embarrassed by these events, I'd say it might just be comic relief, but he looked damned proud when he became Princess Big Mac.
  15. Ah, I've been there. Nice work on this one!
  16. Something can be canon, but it cannot be cannon, unless it's a cannon.
  17. Years ago I drank two or three cans/bottles of soda a day, but I eventually realized that I often felt physically ill after finishing one, so I decided to give it up. Now I only have one soda every two months or so, and my main drink is water. I think that my dentist is the person who's most pleased with my decision.
  18. Pretty much anything by Loreena McKennitt. I was living in New Jersey when Hurricane Sandy hit, and spent my time listening to her music, burning some incense, and baking cookies. Most relaxing hurricane ever (at least for me).
  19. Thankskilling. My biggest problem with this movie is that its variety of humor left me feeling uncomfortable through most of it. Maybe without that element, it would have been worth seeing as something you know is going to be awful, but I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone in its current form. If you want a good stupid movie with horror elements, go watch Rubber.
  20. My first thought was, "who on Earth started this thread?" Then I saw your Bender avatar, and things made a little more sense. I'm going to have to go with no. I just don't like the idea of shooting any creature, regardless of whether or not it will do any damage to them, or in this case, feel good.
  21. I like this idea. That would make identifying fellow members at cons about a bajillion times easier.
  22. Last night I dreamt I was home and was employing the Grudge Pony as an anti-burglar measure. She was dangerous to me, too, but she would stop chasing me when I passed through the hallway she always patrolled. Later in the dream I gained the ability to give her a hug, and we were on good terms ever since.

  23. Ok, I just watched it and got really confused when I went on here to discuss it, only to find that this week's episode was "Rarity Investigates". I don't pay attention to episode names before they come out, and always buy the latest one on iTunes, so I unwittingly got a sneak peek. I wonder when they'll post the correct episode? I will only say that it was awesome. Also:
  24. Spike is definitely not like Scrappy. If I remember correctly, Scrappy always pressed on with whatever he had on his mind without consideration for the people around him, whereas Spike eventually (or immediately) reflects on how his behavior will affect his friends. Spike is also way less annoying and hyperactive.
