In all honesty, I'm not a fan of the show. There are episodes where it pulls you in and a I think "this will be good," and then it turns into a really weird slice of life episode. What gets under my skin is the 11 to 15 min run time per episode. I sincerely hope this won't become the new standard for cartoons where it's more "profitable" to make shorter cartoon episodes to crank out the product, ads, and what not. I would never have gotten into MLPFIM if it were that stupid 11 to 15 min per episode idea. Robot Chicken was fine to me when it did the short skit thing with the show being a total of X minutes since SMA takes quite a bit of effort to pull off. In regards to unpopular opinions, I'm starting to get annoyed at some of the people in the fandom who just tell others -- using a stardard reply -- of "just don't watch the show then if you don't like it." Primary example came with the post on EQD where a person vented, and received a not too warm welcome of "just stop watching the show" with one comment saying along the lines of "we need toilet paper overhere for the butthurt." Thankfully, this won't disuade me from the brony fandom since these people make up a minority of them. I was here since the last-half of the first season, and I ain't leaving until the show reaches its end.

I'm excited yet nervous. S3 was kind of a bomb for me. All that product placement just left a bad taste in my mouth. The ending sequence was horrible. S4 we better than S3, but they layered on the "Princess Twilight Sparkle" so much it felt like a parent putting gobs of ice cream on medicing, trying to give said medicine to a problematic child. S5's opening 2 episodes has promise, and they (the show's writers) could really do some great work to showcase the others and their feelings towards Twilight's ascension. I would also like to see Twilight's inner workings. Show her to be vulnerable as she starts to understand herself more and what's transpired. That's probably what annoyed me most with S4 is the fact we get a little "I'm concerned about being a princess," sprinkled here and there, and then it's more of S3's ending stunt where "Everything is going to be fine. I'm a princess and princesses are awesome." I guess time will tell. I'm not about to get on the hype train, yet I'm not about to jump on the "it's all going down hill" bandwagon.

Thanks. It turned out quite nicely. I did a pen-tool trace outline of BlueBlood and the stallions from the last episode of S1 from the Grand Galloping Gala. -

Genepool replied to Emerald Star's topic in Requestria
If you're willing to give it a shot, I wouldn't mind my OC being drawn. Steadfast Sorry, I don't have a link to a bigger, more current image of him. He's part of a story I've had on hiatus, starting it off and on for close to 4 years now. -
Are the writers foreshadowing characters?
Genepool replied to TheMisterManGuy's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
There are three analogies to this, imho. You're either "Leaving the door open" to revisit it, "laying the foundation" if you want a bigger setup, or "planting seeds" for something to blossom down the road. I've learned through my own writing experiences that it's best to leave little bits and pieces of elements within a story. This allows you to revisit it for a story, and it doesn't have to be about foreshadowing of something for the future. I might be wrong here, but here's an example of what foreshadowing means to me. I apologize for the bit of narcissism, using one of my stories and all. I've got a story that I have been working on for quite some time where the protagonist is journeying to Canterlot. He's kind of led a sheltered life in his little village, and he finds the world he thought was kind/understanding to be rather cruel. Prime example comes after the encounter with his prime nemesis. The protagonist starts to have nightmares. He mentions that he never had dreams before, except for one dream. This is when the reader finds out about his first and only dream before the nightmare came as the dream came the very night he earned his Cutie Mark. The dream is described with a few details, and it's left at that. This becomes rather significant where the reader, I would hope, goes "So that's what it meant" when a chapter comes down the road. Something that's simply there to be referenced/used for later story material, or to help out a story, would be a comment or occurence where the protagonist mentions his aunt who's a pegasus while he's a unicorn. She's not really his aunt, but a good family friend to the point he calls her his aunt. I use her in a later chapter for a bit of a friendly meeting. I don't believe the writers are foreshadowing content from Discord, The sisters, Pinkie Pie, and the like. Pinkie Pie's "Pinkie Sense" might make a good episode/story down the road, and that's about it. It might be rather funny to see Apple Bloom develop her own sort of "Pinkie Sense" and Pinkie Pie trains her on how to use it.- 17 replies

Is a male Alicorn possible in the future?
Genepool replied to Leonard Smix's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Speaking in a biological sense, I have no clue. As others have said, it might be posible for Celestia and Luna to have one since they are inherently different than Twilight and Cadence. That's not to say Twilight and Cadence couldn't have an alicorn foal/colt. Now, in a marketing sense, I give it a slim to none chance. That one fateful episode many saw Twilight turn from a unicorn into an alicorn, good or bad depending upon your tastes, Fluttershy says something along the lines of "You look just like a princess" to which Celestia says "That's because she is, my dear." Those two little lines lead me to believe only mares can turn into alicorns. There was a good, well thought out idea/notion in an analysis video of which stallion would be qualified to be an alicorn. I agree with the person's idea that Shining Armor would be a perfect candidate. I'm doubtful male alicorns will exist, as stated above, simply for the marketing purposes where they are special in representing the 3 races, and you want your target audience, girls, to associate with what you're trying to market. If a stallion were to emerge as an alicorn, become one, or a male alicorn were revealed, it'll probably do more harm than good. The only time I've seen a male alicorn was that foreign comic where Leon, think that's his name, was an alicorn stallion but that can be disregarded from the canon side of things since it's a one shot comic of sorts with Rarity and Blue Blood. Sorry. I don't see any male alicorns in the future. They might do it for some season finale temporary thing for lulz, but, other than that, it'll ruin the product market. Not to mention they have 4 alicorns right now in the show. Toys are one thing. If you start cranking out more alicorns in the show, it'll pollute the concept of them being special. -
To make my Diary of the Banished story a great story within the Brony community. It's been one of my true desires in a long, long, long time. I just want to make something special that people will look back on and say the story was unique, made them think, and it stands out amongst the other stories out there. I want it to be special, just like Fallout: Equestria. I'm doubtful that will happen, yet, if I can make it at least 1/2 as special as FoE, I will be happy. I have to say, my thanks goes out to the brony community and MLPFIM. I never knew I could write like this. I hated english/grammar during school. It was my worst subject. Now, now I understand things a lot better than I did and love the worlds, stories, and things that can be crafted with a few strokes of the keys on my laptop. I would say that my secondary resolution would be to make my own stories, get them published, and have people enjoy them. In my heart, that would make me sincerely happy. Sorry for the sappiness there.

This may be an unpopular idea, but I'm starting to agree with a notion I overheard about "Social Justice Warriors" being equated to ISIS where both have unwavering fanatical beliefs that they are right in what they do. Both are zealots. After this whole incident with the ESA comet stuff and that poor guy getting so much flack for his shirt, I have a new disgust for these idiots out there who cry "sexist" at the drop of a hat. What has happened to the world? I'm starting to agree that common sense is so rare that it's a super power. I fear for the world of tomorrow instead of welcoming it with open arms. A person accidentally trips and places their hand on a hot burner, I expect a lawsuit to be filed on the floor's manufacturer for the floor being too slippery and the stove for not automatically turning itself off and instantly cooling the burner before the person's hand touched it.

Not unpopular, but I feel a need for cathartic release. I hate the current job market in the US. It's polluted, stupid, and, above all else, needs a cleansing. Best Buy is one of the top offenders. That test on the site for their so-called "jobs" is nothing more than a pathetic, run down personality test that should be scuttled. People are given the impression to answer honestly, yet you really need to answer the questions "strongly" this or "strongly" that with no-inbetween without being fired. Another problem is the ridiculousness that "no-prior job experience" is needed when, clearly, that's what they want. The biggest mistake I made in my life was going to college, or rather going to college full time. Now I feel like that little kid who's trying to play catch-up on the track, facing the faster/better kids that excel in gym class. To me, there needs to be a law in big bold print for these corprate idiots that stipulates any entry-level job can only have the requirement of a HS diploma or GED and that's it. You can't require previous work experience. You can't list "prefered" abilities for said job. You can't have anything but base requirements. Prime example of a job that PO's me to no end was in the paper where they needed a janitor. It was an entry level position, but they wanted 1yr+ experience in janitorial experience. Before people lambast my anger, saying it's misplaced, yes, I know that being a janitor is more than just sweeping floor just as much as being a pharmacist is more than just counting out pills, putting them in bottles, and sending customers on their merry little way. Seems that you need to be born with skills implanted into your brain, giving you x+ years of experience. I need a job for experience yet I need experience for the job, even if its just to clean garbage off of the street.

I'm doubtful this is a brony. It's just some nut job who grabbed a "...a stuffed horse toy..." and had some fun with it. Even if the guy were to say he was a brony, I would have serious doubts about it. He's just some weirdo that probably "gets off" by doing weird stuff in public while wanting to get caught.

I'll enjoy reading the article if you can find it. Please, list the sources so I know where I'm wrong and how to correct myself. I don't have a problem being wrong, but I want substantiated claims that are backed up via reputable resources.

No... No... need more lemon pledge. In regards to Ebola, the media is to blame for some of it getting out of hand. The disease isn't to be triffled with since the virus is classified as a Bio-Hazard Level 4 contagion, but people are getting out of hand, as usual or not to be unexpected, because of it. I would have to do some digging, but what I find puzzling is the fact this strain appears to have a high lethality rating at 50 to 70% normal. Instead, it seems to have killed 18% of the people that have been infected. This could be due to better supportive care. I just don't know. The only thing that concerns me is the rate at which bacteria and viruses can mutate and evolve when compared to other forms of DNA/RNA based life as we know it. If this thing evolves the ability to spread via air, that's when we'll need to panic.

Rainbow Rocks Ending beneficial for show(SPOILERS)
Genepool replied to TheMarkz0ne's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Don't need to apologize, you're just stating a difference of opinion. I dislike Equestria Girls cause it plays off the tired trope of the Highschooler looking to fit in, with the the trope being hosed down in Pony juice. I tried to be open minded with Rainbow Rocks, but it just turned me off like the first film. It would be nice to keep the two films separate from MLPFIM. I got that connotation from Meghan McCarthy, but the newest film just reinforce the fact I misread her words; that "misreading words" seems to be the norm as I tried to take things at face value. -
1. I'm kind of sick of Twilight being the poster pony/thing/idol for MLPFIM. Can't walk into a store without her being splayed everywhere or her with Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy. Feels like Rarity gets some spotlight but poor AJ and Pinkie are kicked to the curb like yard waste. 2. This is probably not "unpopular," but I'm disgusted with the current job market in the US. Everything is so automated. It's to the point that you have to trick the machines into getting your application moved forward to find a job. I haven't held a job, due to various circumstances, and it gives the connotation of exercise in futility. I would have an easier time constructing a rocket or creating a dimensional portal to Equestria than finding a job in the US market right now. 3. Find myself not-too-please with customer service as of late. Of course, I don't find it all too unsuspected at a Wal-Mart. Ask for help and a person says "it's over there" to me. How about you help me out a little more than just pointing your finger, hmm?

Expressing Love and Tolerance. A Failed Goal?
Genepool replied to Leonard Smix's topic in Sugarcube Corner
Yup. I believe in the love and tolerance message because the world needs more of what represents the elements of Harmony vs our current state of cruel, deplorable acts of cruelty, greed, and dishonest behavior. Now, though I have said that and some will call me a hypocrit, I reserve the right, as a human/individual, to direct that love and tolerance to those I believe need it. I'm not going to feel sympathy towards some psychotic murderer or some nut job who runs around hurting people. -
Ted Anderson possible let go from IDW
Genepool replied to deadprofile's topic in Official MLP Comics & Books
It's a rather stupid thing, but I'm still curious if he's that JJJ/Cuteosphere/whatever person who was drawing artwork. In the end, I still feel like I'm missing something, though, to be honest, that may just be me trying to dig too hard into something when it's just too simple and plain. I don't read the comics. This doesn't hurt me, yet it does suck when a person endangers their career because of personal beliefs. That's why I always keep my internet style and my real life self separate. I can only ponder what will become of the comics. Hasbro could take action, and IDW could face a stiff penalty, much to the point they shut down production of the comics. It's doubtful that would happen since the comics bring in extra money, but I can only wonder.- 26 replies

Rainbow Rocks Ending beneficial for show(SPOILERS)
Genepool replied to TheMarkz0ne's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
I rather things stay separate entities, though, to be honest, I doubt that's gonna happen. We've already seen Brad/Flash Sentry/whatever in S4, including a semi-speaking role in the S4 finale as he announced the delegates. Hasbro wants the two things linked. This gives them the opportunity to bridge that gap. S5 could have an episode dedicated to the mirror where the Mane6 get swapped with their counterparts in Equestria, Sunset Shimmer is the only one who can fix the problem and becomes the bridger of worlds or something along those lines. All in all, I just don't like Equestria Girls and would like it to stay out of my pony stuff. But, that's just like my opinion. -

When it starts getting around 4 seasons, animated shows will start re-evaluating their priorities. Though it was said they would expand the franchise, it doesn't directly mention the Friendship is Magic series. They could take off in a whole new direction for G4.5 or skip to a G5 series where they keep the tradition designs right now, but do a completely new story. One thing I wouldn't be surprised about is if they did a continuation of sorts since Twilight Sparkle, excuse me, "Princess Twilight Sparkle" is the poster pony of the series right now. They could have G4.5/G5 follow the wishes of Faust where Twilight takes over Celestia's place as ruler of Equestria and Canterlot, Twilight dissolving her kingdom in Ponyville or have it end up like the castle of the 2 sisters in the Everfree Forest. She becomes the new ruler with it being like 100+ years after the events of the Mane6's adventures as the purple princess pony alicorn takes over by teaching friendship to a new group of Mane6, one of them destined to be an alicorn princess to keep up the princess motif. It wouldn't violate what McCarthy said about Twilight not outliving her friends since it would be a completely new series too.

With Tirek absorbing Twilight's alicorn powers, we've had something akin to this. To be honest, I would want to see it permanently done. I don't hate Twilight being an alicorn, just how it was done. I still believe that S3 was sham and S4's content should have been S3. If Twilight gained her powers by the 3 princesses pooling their magic into her and it became permanent, I would be a 100% supporter of her staying an alicorn. I will leave that be however, since the topic of Twilight's alicornification, ascension, etc..., has been discussed, argued, and opinionated to death. As for punishment by Celestia, that "might" not be a bad idea. You could show higher orders of princesses/alicorns. Even if Twilight is the alicorn/princess of friendship, magic, and everything else, Princess Celestia is still a powerful entity that outranks her in terms of power, knowledge, and wisdom.

I would want to see Twilight de-princessified/alicorned, but I get a sense she'll turn into her "royal self" either down the line or in the finale. In S4 she was already taller than the rest of the mane6, her wings don't fit the body type/look weird, and her horn kind grew/shrank a couple of times. Part of me gets a bad sense that S5 may be the final season of the show. They could request an S6, but that's a pretty big stretch since it said on EQD that MLPFIM tops the charts for the # of seasons and episodes. Apple Bloom being visited by Princess Luna seems like a sure bet almost since Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo had a visit. It might be nice to see it tied into her earning a Cutie Mark. Have Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo earn their cutie marks, Apple Bloom being distraught as she feels like an outcast again. She's the only Cutie Mark Crusader left since Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo earned their marks. Maybe have the filly sleep in the tree house, has a bad dream, and Luna banishes the nightmares. Apple Bloom worries about her friends not being her friends anymore, to which Luna talks about how Applejack is still friends with Twilight even though the unicorn is now a princess. I would hate to see Twilight enter into the dream world because it would add, imho, to her Mary Sue status at the moment. I would like to see Trixie come back and serve an important purpose as a good character during the episode. It would be great to see her background. Not sure, but I think Faust said she was in Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns before she dropped out. The episode progresses to where Princess Luna takes Trixie on as an apprentice. Luna does this because she wants to get closer to the ponies of Equestria, even though it's been some time since her return. Another Discord episode, but make it between him, Weird Al, and Pinkie Pie. They have an epic prank war on Equestria. Things get out of hand as Pinkie Pie manages to get a horn via the Inspiration Manifestation Spell, no explanations as she's Pinkie Pie, and combines it with the Alicorn Amulet. Discord reverses the damage, but alludes to the fact he has dealings with Star Swirl the Bearded. It doesn't say Discord is Star Swirl, just that he's familiar with the unicorn.

I admit it if people ask. The biggest thing I do is not take it all too seriously. A person pokes fun at it, I joke with them about it. What I don't do is try to stand out by saying I'm different, etc.... I'm just a 31 year old male who likes a TV show with colorful equines in it. What continues to draw me towards bronies though is not solely the show but the fandom. It gives me a good outlet to talk with other people. Kinda makes the world feel a little less macabre and dark for me, especially with what's happened.

What, if it is present, do you hate most in a video game?
Genepool replied to Fenrir's topic in Media Discussion
I've grown rather sick of gaming. I play just to kill boredom. There are a few rare instances where a game will illicit a grin from me, but that joviality is short lived at best. Games have grown into my current view of movies; they are both overhyped, graphical eyecandy made to please the masses. A "Rarity" may come along, but the came is buried amongst the cavalcade of crap that's out there. I had high hopes for Aliens Vs Predator from Gearbox, and it was such a catastrophy that even Discord couldn't help but marvel at the chaos that ensued because of it. Another thing that irritates me is the growing rift between PC gamers and console gamers. Totalbiscuit brought up a rather nice review on WatchDogs about the graphics quality and how a simple mod bumped it up to the E3 quality levels. I'm in the personal belief that we'll need a second videogame era crash in order to reboot the whole thing into what it needs to be, putting horrible developers *cough* EA *cough* hopefully out of business.- 87 replies

-I find myself disgusted with people that treat another person's opinion like garbage; those opinions destroyed when it's asked for by another individual. One example that comes to mind is the notion of "A person's opinion isn't immune to criticism," which is understandable. With that said however, the people I despise use that quoted phrase as an excuse to launch counter-opinions to degrade the first person opinion. This degredation comes to a head where an individual will retort that the person's opinion is wrong just like their taste in food, the dish not properly prepared. I understand that an opinion can be countered, however, why in tartarus did you ask for that person's opinion if all you care about is countering it? This may be me, but isn't an opinion neither right nor wrong? -The current "Special Snowflake Syndrome" issue in the US is out of hand. One thing I see -- on an almost constant basis -- are people that come out as gay, homosexual, transgender, or whatever and gets tons of praise for it. In all honesty, I await the day when "coming out" becomes the norm. These little "Snowflakes" will get no attention when they come out then seek their attention elsewhere. I want to clarify my position on LBGTs however. I don't hate them by any means. What infuriates me are the snowflake/attention seeking hounds that dwell within these communities. I'll reiterate that what ticks me off are the "Special Snowflake Syndrome" cases that come out as such and become attention seekers. When they attention goes away, the individuals try a new tactic to gain their much desired attention. -Job hunting needs to be more streamlined. I don't expect the world to hand me everything on a silver platter, I learned that when I was at a very young age. Please though, please cut me some slack. This nonsense needs to stop of jobs being advertised as "entry level" then have further requirements added where it says X amount of years of experience are required. I know that I'm an obsolote 31 year old here, graduating HS in 2002 and getting a measly Associate in Arts degree in 2005, but isn't an entry level job supposed to mean that it can be done by anyone with a HS degree without experience? Also, I find myself incensed by these kiosks at Target and Publix. These companies need to stop the BS right now. Target I cut some slack towards because they started putting up jobs that are open at a particular store, but I still feel annoyed to receive a card in the mail that says I can't be hired there. It feels like that jerkish slap on the back after I forgot to put suntan lotion on when I went to the beach. Publix I find to be the absolute worst since I have yet to receive even one "slap on the back" from these people. It becomes old, very old and grates on the nerves when I get the sense that I'm just wasting my time yet the company strings me along with the "slim chance" of employment. That wasted time is valuable. I could put it into other resources, other sectors of the job market to keep my eyes open vs these shenanigans. -Lawsuits are last on this list but high on my top 5 things that perterb me. We, the United States, need to stop with all these stupid lawsuits and ridiculous payouts/demands of compensation. The story garnered my attention involved a woman who won a lawsuit for $23.1 billion because her husband died of smoking. At that point, it goes beyond ludicrous. Just 1 billion dollars is a 1 followed by 9 zeros ( 1 x 10^9 for Scientific oriented people who probably already know this). I'm sorry her husband died, but demanding $23 billion? I know the court won't even pay that kind of amount since it will get whittled down. It shouldn't even be stipulated in the beginning though. Absurd lawyers are on my list big time. Do I hate all lawyers? No. I just hate the bloodsuckers, with a passion. I'm also displeased at the US legal system, especially with criminals who are guilty getting off on technicalities. Being in the brony community, the Copy Right system has garnered my eye as well. People lash out at each other with verbal assaults and accusations, demanding monetary compensations for lost earnings. Copyrights are needed to protect people's ideas. Though I say that, I agree that "the current system is a dinosaur, ill equipped to deal with the modern digital era" where information is traded at near the speed of light. Anyways, long rant. I had to get that off my chest. (Edit: Kind of disgusted with myself that I didn't re-read my stuff. Went back in to fix/tighten things up, so I don't sound like a rambling blowhard, an ignorant hick, or some combination there of.)
