  1. Why do I get the feeling that this is a (not so) subtle response to the very recently created thread: 'Why anti-bronies should leave bronies alone'? Even so, I'm entirely on your side. Yes, the haters can get annoying, but firing hate back at them only gives them more ammunition and actually justifies some of the points they make. And anyway, this forum is arguably the most hospitable and friendliest place on the internet. You're preaching to the converted!
  2. This is an impressive analysis. How long did it take you to analyse the glyphs and decide on what each symbol might (vaguely) represent? What I find interesting is that in the original image of the book, the one telling the 'Mare in the Moon' tale, the actual illustration of the Mare in the Moon (the top right corner of the book) contains a couple of identical symbols to the ones used in the text. There are four stars, one in each corner of the illustration, and the crescent moon is shining (which, by your own interpretations of each symbol, would give the impression that the picture is trying to portray a scene of a 'dark heaven', an accurate translation of the nature of the story). This seems too perfect to be coincidental, since our equivalent would be scrawling a seemingly random letter of the alphabet in the corners of an image, which would likely never make any sense to us. I agree in that the pages of the book might be set out 'back to front' (so the beginning is our back page), seeing as the text underneath the illustration on the right-hand page would be an appropriate place to write the title or summary of the story. This would be either 'The Mare in the Moon' or 'Myth from olden pony times'. However, like you said, it's difficult to tell if text itself is written left to right or vice-versa. As for the number issue, wherein the number 1000 should be represented by three identical symbols in a row but isn't, perhaps it is simply written out longhand (like 'thousandth'). Futile attempts at understanding this aside, I think that using this or something similar in your fanfic is an excellent idea. Just make sure that if a translation of your version of the language is ever given, offer at least some sort of simplified explanation for how the characters translated it. If you're really talented, perhaps you could weave this explanation into the actual story instead of giving it as an author's note. But not everyone will be an enthusiast of this subject, so don't let it become boring! I'm not going to allow myself to be sucked into analysing this in any more detail because otherwise the issue will bug me, but in any case I wish you (and anypony else who has a go) good luck in deciphering the language! If it isn't total gibberish, of course...
  3. The words 'someone', 'anyone', 'everyone' and 'no-one' originated simply by adding different prefixes to the word 'one'. In this context, the word 'one' is not actually used in direct reference to the number, but instead from old-fashioned English when the word 'one' meant 'you' or sometimes even 'I'. For example: "One is very satisfied with the exceptionally splendid most recent season of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic". Obviously no-one speaks like this anymore. You (one) would simply say: "You/I are/am very happy with the new season." The logic of using 'anypony', 'nopony' etc. breaks down when trying to substitute the suffix 'pony' into this context. It makes no sense whatsoever to say "Pony is very happy with the new season." The same reason applies when thinking about why our words are definitely not 'anyhuman', 'everyhuman' etc. Words like 'anypony', 'somepony' etc. are simply puns. Unfortunately this means that the characters in the show should still actually use words like 'anyone' instead of 'anypony', but in my opinion it's still a brilliant idea and the fact that it makes no linguistic sense doesn't spoil it one bit.
  4. You know, it helps me remember the order of the symbols, at least. Then the actual name of that element comes naturally, so in a way it does help me! You can say that again...I had to resort to some pretty awful words on occasions. But I did my best, and I'm quite happy with the result. Thanks for the praise!
  5. I know, memorising the original periodic table is frustrating, isn't it? We don't actually need to, seeing as the thing is always on hand somewhere, but it's a matter of personal pride to not have to reference to it. (It saves time, too. ) And if you manage to memorise my table here, you deserve the respect of every brony in the world!
  6. Well, with my Chemistry exams at University coming up, I sighed and resigned myself to doing revision. Then I sort of got sidetracked... I looked at my Periodic Table, with all its elements, then remembered the Elements Of Harmony. Suddenly this crazy idea formed in my head, and the result was a strange expansion of the show's canon elements based on the chemical symbols present in the real Periodic Table. Here, have a look at the manifestation of my weird brain... Just to clarify my intentions, the symbol 'H' means 'Hydrogen' in Chemistry - but I changed it to mean 'Harmony' in the world of ponies. The symbols are exactly the same as they are in the real world, but all of the words are different. (The transition elements will come in a moment.) *'Kraft' is the German word for 'energy' or 'power'. Just as the Periodic Table has groups (they're the columns going down), I have also done my best to organise these 'elements' into groups. See the number above each column? That's the group number, and the meaning of each group is explained below: Group 1 contains the elements of wildlife and nature, while Group 2 gives the elements explaining the general traits of the unicorn species. Group 3 consists of the elements which are necessary to live in the perfect society (which Equestria near enough is anyway), whereas Group 4 is my take on the typical Pegasus pony. Group 5 offers just a few of the many attributes one must have to be an intelligent, happy and reasonable being - not forgetting the Earth Ponies, Group 6 covers the elements which generally apply to ponies such as Applejack (or any Earth Pony). Group 7 is the bad egg, being Discord's personal set of elements that cause strife and destruction, and finally Group 8 tries to lay out the elements of the Alicorns. (Yeah, attempting to work with 'Xe' ended in figurative tears.) Due to issues of space, I had to do the transition elements separately, but here they are. I wanted to do Mane 6-specific elements, so I split the three rows of ten elements into six sets of five, one set for each of the Mane 6. (Applejack ended up being the only one who I could feasibly give her actual canon element ) **Yes, 'Zr' is 'Fashion'. Seriously, there was nothing I could do with Zirconium, unless Rarity randomly got the 'Element of Zero'. By the way, I own none of the pictures used. It's not hand-drawn because my drawing skills are terrible, but anyway, what do you guys think? Is there a different word that you would have used for some elements? Which groups would you change? Have I gone insane? I'd love to hear your opinions on this! Oh, and one more thing - Happy New Year everypony!
  7. Secret Of My Excess has some absolute howlers... It's a daily occurrence. If there's one more word after that, I don't wanna know what it is. Applejack's life-changing revelation - she must want to E-mail Big Mac telling him he's not invited to the next reunion. "But I can't afford that! Better go rob Apple Acres..." I'm not happy about this either. ...What? Look, even Spike's pointing out how terrible the transcribing is. ...and now he's being a racist. Respect gone, Spike. "Shut up Rainbow Dash, he's not supposed to know until he's opened them!" Dear God...
  8. This episode was absolutely brilliant. I don't understand why so many different issues are spouting everywhere because of it. Spitfire was portrayed perfectly - it's already been said that she needed to treat Rainbow Dash exactly the same as everypony else, lest she think that training required no effort whatsoever. And as captain, Spitfire made the right decisions at the right times. Rainbow Dash herself was equally great in her behavior, and it was nice to see some of that loyalty shining through as well. The other Mane ponies added an extra kick in flavour (I couldn't stop laughing at Pinkie Pie's antics), and I might add that the animation throughout is the best I've ever seen the team produce. Not to mention the gorgeously bright colours that kept me smiling like a hugely entertained child. As for how open-ended the ending was, remember that different writers write different episodes; Merriwether (this episode's writer) may well have deliberately left it that way so any other writer could pick up on or at least reference Rainbow Dash's inclusion in the Wonderbolts. Best episode of the season so far for me, no doubt.
  9. Absolute trash. Not only is Alicorn Twilight the worst idea to have ever occured to the human brain, but the knock-on effects in any future season(s) would be disastrous. What would happen to Spike? Would he be dismissed from the show in some rushed scene where he leaves with dragons in another effort to 'find himself'? Twilight is scarcely going to need him anymore and Spike cannot be simply removed from the show in the same way that this person's (groundless) claim says will happen to Derpy, so he'll either have to take his leave in a way which makes no sense whatsoever or be cast off in a dark corner, only to be seen in episodes about him or during major Ponyville emergencies. Or would that be Canterlot emergencies? Speaking of which, where's Twilight going to live? Because if it's in Canterlot, the whole background cast of Ponyville (like Mr and Mrs Cake, Doctor Whooves, etc.) would be gone and need to be replaced by the developers, who would then have the task of creating entirely new ponies to fill in slots which should never have been emptied in the first place. And regardless of the setting, the relationship and time spent together with the other Mane 5 and Twilight would change. The Mane 6 would become spliced into the Mane 1 and the Horribly Overlooked Rightful Symbols of Equestria who Should Hold Indefinite Titles To Excellent Roles in Stories (HORSESHITTERS), and we'd probably have to put up with Twilight exchanging pleasantries with Celestia for five minutes every week. Alicorn Twilight for one episode in the season finale, maybe. Other than that, don't believe a word of it.

TheBronyHeart's request is complete! Finally I have a piece of poetry available to view - check out 'Planar Cycle' in Octavia's hall if you're interested in putting in a request for a poem but want to see an example of my style first.
  11. This poetic prose was inspired by TheBronyHeart's piece 'Dedication of the Damned', when he requested to see my style of poetry by drawing through his. I hope I did it justice. My shadow is gone. Question not the time of its passing, for only when your eyes, judgemental knives, illuminated my lesser half did my afflicted head sink to spot the blinding nothingness. Silhouette retreating to attack, self-righteous self-destruction concealed within the carefully crafted shape of nightmares, my frozen heart melted by the searing explosion to spill the blackened ink of these words. I don’t care. This furious heat serves to complete a once infant interest in the rampage of lines my hand now traces, gluttonous creature growing as I offer my soul to every stroke, only to have it returned yet more twisted from whence it came. A meaningless deal with the devil, amused observance of my assault on the mirror which will never shatter. The cracks do not reflect an evil diminished; demons bleed through the fractures I create. Do I believe in the devil’s existence? Ask instead if I believe in my own existence. You plead to flee the company of three that should be four, an escape born of misunderstanding. But take heed…avoid the trail of reddened decline, lest you ultimately return and join me within the circle to which I am chained. Locked. Bound. Chained. Infinite paths to the centre, a vaccine of my weakness awaits. I cannot reach it. My shadow is gone. Alone I sit on the throne of decadence, king of nothing, slave to my rules set in stone. Perfect hierarchy harmonises my desire for anyone, ANYTHING but the autocrats screaming their equations of creation. No victory to ever be achieved against this myriad mass of cranial insanity, head of my existence, though even if there were, a Hydra’s severed neck need only wait to bring down the axe twice as hard upon my own. Third dimension unseen, unheard, the spheres that are my eyes mere entrances to the twisted soul that deceives them. No volume to vocalise my anguished cries as I tread the fictitious perimeter, grounded by ground ever travelled by the same two feet, a ring six feet deep. Of seven billion spirals, it chose mine to defile, connecting the ends with cruel malevolence. Reminiscence of the formerly beautiful shape so often arises, the helix down which I tumble. The reward of one’s dedication, it seems, an aftermath committed to spewing poison upon its founder. Fidelity’s fangs are mine to loathe. Forever could I lament over years poorly spent, yet not a drop of regret falls amongst the glistening lake perfected over a lifetime. And therein laughs the devil. Unwanted, I weep. The sole message I speak. My is gone.

Absolutely, I tried to make it as clear as possible that this is a request thread for the linguistic enthusiasts like myself (though not the art of drawing; I'm terrible at that) - ask away, I'd love to take on your request. I need to get some motivation back in my hooves! It will be done. Don't worry, I fully intend to get into the minds of your OCs before I pen a single word. A few ideas are swirling around...not sure how long this (and everypony else's) request will take to complete, but I hope the finished project will be well worth it, regardless of how long you had to wait on me. This is an idea of genius; seeing how I interpret your work will certainly give you an insight into how my own mind works. And thank you for the condolences - the first few days after everything sunk in, I just felt numb. Things are slightly better now, though, since the opportunity to make others happy is without doubt a boost. In fact, yes, I do have a couple of questions. You have clearly explained how Lapis Lazuli and Asteria first met and their individual characteristics, but I'd like to have a little more knowledge about their actual relationship and friendship. I'm assuming that you would like your two OCs to be the only ponies in the story, so they're going to be talking a fair amount. A bit more to go on with regard to their behaviour around each other would help me to ensure that they don't get out of character. Does Lapis scold Asteria when she makes mistakes? Or is he always empathetic and gentle towards her no matter the situation? Is he protective of her? Likewise, does Asteria always respect Lapis and believe in his greater knowledge, or is she self-assertive and not afraid to challenge his opinion? Is she headstrong in dangerous situations, or does she rely on Lapis to get them out safely? Finally, I'm guessing that Asteria calls Lapis Lazuli simply 'Lapis', but I'd like to make sure.

    request shop Win-Win Requests

(TL;DR: Request for a pony-related short story or a poem about anything!) Recently, due to the wonders of technological failings, I have completely lost the vast majority of my creative works. Even back-ups have forsaken me and, in a cruel coincidence, several separate hardwares came apart in a very short space of time, giving me no chance to recover anything. And now, I suddenly find myself with very little confidence and motivation. This is why I want you guys to request me to create once again. The nature of these requests can be absolutely anything involving the written word. If I were a pony, I feel sure that my cutie mark would be a pen scribbling words and ideas upon a piece of paper - I need you to help me live up to that again! Hence the title of this thread, where your request is fulfilled and my confidence restored. Below are just a couple of guidelines: If you wish for me to write a short story, I ask that you keep it pony-related. But I'd love to take on your OC as a character, and you can of course ask me to also include any number of the Mane 6 and other canon characters. Give me the necessary info and it will be done! If you have a specific plot set out in mind, summarise it and I'll do my best to weave an engrossing tale, or you could just throw a few ponies my way and request a story of my own devising. How much control you give me is entirely up to you; want me to enrich your OC's backstory? A fanfic where Fluttershy has to venture alone into a volcano? Spike wearing a sombrero all day for a reason only I could invent? You decide who holds the reins. Shipping is allowed - just ask for it in your request! But short stories will be no longer than 4,000 words, so please try not to outline an epic. With regard to poetry, I can be more flexible. If you wish for me to address a personal issue or particularly powerful opinion, then that's absolutely fine. Even better, you can ask me to dedicate a poem or story to a close companion on this site or indeed anyone else in your life. If they're a member of this forum, you may want to PM me your request instead - that way they'll have no idea until you spring it as a surprise! When it's done, I'll PM you and unless you specifically ask me not to, I will publish the finished project into Octavia's Hall. Finally, if you wish to take a look at some of my work to see if my style is for you, you can view an extract of the book I'm currently writing (in which completed chapters were luckily already uploaded before I lost everything); just check out the link in my signature. It's a Sonic fanfic, so may not be for everyone, but it should give you an insight into my style of penmanship. I apologise for not being able to offer any examples of my poetry, but sadly every last piece is gone and I truly feel that just trying to recreate one from memory (which would certainly not be the exactly the same as the original) would be an insult to the entire art. Over to you, fellow ponies. Yeah, this image isn't mine.
  14. Hi guys, so you're both new? If I could only give you one nudge as to the way to go while you're here, I'd say stay active. Post on the threads, start your own threads, and don't be afraid to PM others if you're interested in something they're doing or even if you just notice a quirky trait which you both share. Odds are you'll find that they'll respond in kind. I take it you've seen last week's new episode then. I'm not sure if you know, but ponies usually say '[Pony] is best pony.' So you think that Trixie is best pony; she may be evil, but I see where you're coming from. There's a certain charm about a narcisstic pony who speaks in the third person... As for your friends, don't mention the show in front of them. There's nothing worse when a fan tries to force ponies on someone who holds no regard for the show, and who knows - maybe one day they'll realise what the fuss is about. Oh, and stay active in reality too, of course. Unicycling and hockey - now they're good ways to keep yourself entertained while staying healthy. And I remember trying archery once, Celestia knows how many years ago. The memory is swirling round in my head, reminiscent of only just reaching double figures in age. I remember pulling back that bowstring, aiming for that bullseye, letting go with the grace of swan (although the execution probably looked more like an indifferent gorilla was attempting it) to watch it whistle through the air... ...and get stuck in the ground ten feet in front on me. Oh, the shame...
  15. There's a difference between hating the show and hating bronies. After that, there's an even bigger difference between hating bronies and actually acting on that hate by needlessly hurling abuse at them. It's at this point where trolling is the only definition for the demeaning remarks (and sometimes five-page essays of venom) to which bronies are all too often subjected. Ignoring trolls is always an option, but then, they shouldn't have to - acceptance of someone else's opinion is a life skill that everyone has to pick up on sooner or later, lest they become rightly disliked and mistrusted by the victims. Problem is that this often turns into a vicious circle, where the more people defend their views (which they are perfectly entitled to, provided they don't attack the troll back in the same way), the more the troll feels totally unjustified and goes on another hater spree. It's an overused example, but I wouldn't listen to a lot of pop music until my limbs started being at stake - but I don't go onto their music videos just to dislike it and leave a damaging comment, and I'm sure the vast majority of the members of this site don't either. Hating the show is purely opinion, which is absolutely fine. Hating bronies because you view them as a whole entity with interests you disagree with is prejudiced, but as long as you keep it to yourself then no-one's going to care. But trolling bronies when they haven't provoked you is narrow-minded, unhealthy and only breeds more hate to widen the gap between people who would otherwise probably get along just fine if they met each other in a bar or some other ordinary, real-life setting. There's enough hatred around as it is. If you don't like the show, press the back button on your browser and get back to supporting the things you're passionate about.
  16. My best friend had a heavy crush on someone who I thought was a bit out of his league, so I decided to take matters into my own hands. Absolutely not believing it would work, I swiped both of their most heartfelt possessions from their houses the day before I knew he was going round to her house (I pretended I needed the toilet because my own house is quite far from both of theirs, and luckily both objects were of mostly sentimental value and small). This was naturally to give them something in common which was also very personal, yet I actually regreted stealing almost as soon as I did it. But my little faith in both my friend and my plan was proved wrong when, by a couple of weeks later, they'd become very close over it and they ended up together. She'd liked him all along. Both items were mysteriously found posted through their letterboxes the next day. Now they've been together for over a year and, to this day, neither of them know it was me.
  17. Granted, but there's a worldwide panic about burgers suddenly developing human speech. I wish that the next poster will not corrupt my wish.
  18. Even if it's only on a semi-subsconcious level, I think we all know why we watch the show - aside from the obvious quality of writing and animation in the show, we enjoy it for exactly the reasons outlined by Obsidian_Winter. I used to have a brilliant group of friends in high school and college, but now that I'm in University (I'm from England) and we're all travelling separate paths, I realise that the majority of the time, I took them for granted. Now I miss them, badly. Funnily enough, it was around the time I started Uni that I discovered the show. It reminds me of them, and how fantastic they were - nowadays I seriously struggle to make new friends. This is absolutely true. At 18 years old, I just don't know how to talk to people who I don't know face to face anymore...I was far more sociable a few years back. All I can say is that if you have a friendship similar to that of the Mane 6, no matter if it's with one lifelong best friend who's as shy as you are or with twenty other partygoers, then hold onto it and don't let go until your fingers wear away.
  19. Sleeping would probably be the best option, but who wants to do that? I like to either read a good book (or fanfic) or try and clear my head enough to think of crazy ideas for the fic I'm working on at the minute. When my head finally feels like mush, I'll play a video game (especially now that the Wii U has been released...ZombiU is scary stuff). And watching fan-made pony stuff, of course. There's a ridiculous amount of brilliant work out there - that's the best part about it!
  20. "SINCE YOU'RE HERE, WHY DON'T I INTRODUCE YOU TO 'IT'?' 'IT' SHOULD KEEP YOU BUSY!" Damn U3. The claustrophobic environment in the first part of the fight did not help. At all.
  21. I couldn't draw to save Luna's life, but I'm the same with my writing - getting better and the knowledge that your hard work is being appreciated is one of the greatest incentives to push on with that craft and also just be happy in life. You're absolutely right, doing something challenging that you love is always something to look forward to and drives away loads of worries in your life. It's just so rewarding! Oh, and I get really overexcited about new MLP episodes too. Obviously.
  22. Well hi there - here's your chance to write some of your own lyrics based on the songs of MLP;FiM. Take any song from the show, use the melody and write your own lyrics on any topic you like! Here's my effort, using 'This Day Aria' from the finale of season 2. It's simply about the haters of the show. For maximum effect, play the song while reading the lyrics! http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzsxfO7dBlA I do not own the original song. All credit for the original goes to Daniel Ingram and Hasbro. This thread is going to be perfect The kind of thread of which I dreamed since I was small Everypony will confound With random messages abound What we don't know is that lurking there are trolls. This thread was going to be perfect The kind of thread of which we've dreamed since we were small But fellow ponies we may quake In our hooves as they forsake The sanity on which we always used to call. They will repress any progress Unless it makes their views opaque How? Well don't cry when they display That their ramblings together Will test the end of your tether The truth is their posts are nonsensical scrawls. No they do not let sense bloom In darkness it is entombed But still friendship is our great design! We must shape while others gape Lead their ways of hate astray Come! Our prey will not delay To stain our names, accuse us To maim our claims, abuse us Have no patience to love and tolerate. They presume we live in gloom Their ignorance will seal their doom Oh, fellow ponies, we'll prove that we're immune! *Epic Fanfare* In the end our community will thrive This goal for which we've always strived Until their thirst for hate is slaked They'll keep making their huge mistakes So let's just give it... Time. More time. Whew...that took long enough. Well, got any ideas of your own? This one took the melody from one of the longer songs in the show and I just rhymed everything I could, but you can do whichever song you like from the show! And you don't just have to rhyme - be creative! It's your lyrics, and as long as they go with the melody then who knows what might work? Come on, get thinking!
