G1 & G2 had 1 episode w the Big Brother Ponies (IIRC) & no other males.  But yes, the G4 ponies don't really have a lot to pick from.  Big Mac (& his running gag is how little he says) + Shining Armor & Mr Cake.  The others have had a cameo or 2 or are strictly  background ponies.  There just isn't much to pick from.  (Discord has probably has had more screen time than every other male character in the show combined & he 1) ain't a pony & 2) is a villain.)

Despite that he is Twi's older brother and he may be referred to as a "cliche" 'prince' pony (you may correct me if you so wish), in my personal opinion, ...

 

Shining Armour (or Armor for the Americans) is my favourite male pony (or stallion).

 

I also do like Big Mac as well btw.

Hands down, a tie between Shining Armor, and mainly Fancy Pants

 

Shining Armor is an exceptional recruit of the royal guards, a respectful and wonderful big brother, and a loyal stallion to boot, Canterlot has a great addition since then

 

Out of all the fancy male ponies, fancy pants was the most interesting, he was a good gentleman, was eloquently a well praised stallion as not being greedy or a cliched classy man, and had that right attitude and personality that is also generally okay with everyone including Rarity's friends despite everyone's odd surprise by him

I guess you mean male ponies that a personality has been established by the fandom as well, like Doctor Whooves. I'd say my favorite has to be Fancy Pants. Fancy Pants doesn't take much curiosity in Rarity until he learns she is staying at Princess Celestia's castle. He then invites her to the Wonderbolts derby and declares Rarity his new favorite party guest. He also expresses an interest in Rarity's simple, half-finished dress that Twilight was wearing. He finds Rarity's friends "charmingly rustic" even though Jet Set and Upper Crust initially dismiss them. I.. actually ship Fancy Pants x Rarity...

Hm...

 

Spike and Discord are probably the best male characters, but they're not ponies (other than Discord's head), so moving on...

 

Shining Armor definitely has some potential set up for him, but so far, he's mostly been played as a Gary Stu, so no. 

 

That leaves Big Mac, pretty much the only regular cast member left to be invested in, and Cheese Sandwich, the only one to elevate an episode to a whole new level of great. I do like how Big Mac packs a fair amount of character into limited dialogue and good character at that, suggesting he's more capable and aware than his introverted nature would suggest. But Cheese rivals Discord for how good a job they did adapting a celebrity persona, so I think I'll have to call it a tie.

   Soarin for the win, he looks like a cool pegasus pony, and he could rival Rainbow Dash, in flying and agility. If he become a major character in subsequent seasons, that would make me one happy fan, only time will tell, and I could only hope to see Rainbow Dash and Soarin together.

The most personally relatable for me is Big Mac. Not the most developed stallion or the most verbose, nor has he done anything world-changing, but he's a quiet, hardworking, down-to-earth farm pony of simple tastes. I get the feeling I could get along very well with him if we had the opportunity to meet, more so than any other stallion.

 

 

you'll probably deny my existance after this, but despite this guy's lack of personality and depth...
