I guess I'll give it a try. Free Candy for everyone if I get chosen huehuehue.

But seriously, I don't expect to be in, since there are many people suited better for this job but why not give it a try and see how it goes. Good Luck to everyone! 8)

I feel that the original post should have included the time commitments and qualifications needed to become a moderator. It would better narrow the range of people who can apply despite their interest so that the mods won't have to deal with too many applications at once. Just a thought.

I would apply for the position myself actually if I did not have graduate school knocking on my door :P But I am sure that only the most qualified of the crop will be chosen.

I knew with all the resignations that you guys were short handed but I didn't think you guys would get so short handed that you would change your "don't come to us we will come to you" policy. I understood why you had that policy, because there are people who want to become moderators for the wrong reasons but I have also in my time seen people express an interest for the right reasons as well. If anything an approach of allowing users to express interests can also be used to weed out the people that perhaps aren't a good fit form moderation in addition to finding good candidates.

I am of course in favor of having a strong staff of capable moderators who are in it for the right reasons and can handle the job in addition to of course having the important human touch by never forgetting what it is like to be a regular user in addition to of course handling the harsher realities and tougher calls that you guys sometimes have to make.

Part of me wants to apply because I do care about this place but part of me wonders if I am a good fit. As I have said in some previous instances I do in fact have prior experience in moderation on another site but that site was much smaller than this one and the rules are different so I know it is probably going to be an even greater challenge here. A challenge I can probably handle but what works against me is I am very opinionated and can sometimes be a tad stubborn of course I have kept this reigned in enough to avoid any harsher moderation actions against me but it is still something that will probably work against me. The standards here for moderation are some of the highest I have ever seen which is probably a good thing as I have seen the consequences of people being in that position that should not be there on other sites in the past.

Keep in mind, we will only be hiring Rainbow Dash fans. If you are not an RD fan, then kindly leave. :P

Seriously though, we look forward to seeing the applications you guys send in. Try to take your time and think out what you'd like to put into them. Treat this as you would a paid position you would apply for.

Anywho, I guess I'll give it a shot.

I doubt I'll be chosen.

There's just so many people who would be a better choice. (No, I can't name any, don't ask)

Sorry, Feld0. Can't save you from the ninjas.

I keep thinking about this, and outside of some hurt feelings, I really don't see much downside to this method for opening the initial selection process. This is a huge board, and on boards of this size you have passionate users, who fit all the criteria to become a great mod, but they are overlooked due to a variety of reasons. With a 'we'll call you' policy that potential candidate would take a longer time to catch an Admin or Mod's eye. Sometimes they never do. This way, you may get a few lesser known ... or overlooked users to consider the role.

I see this being a neutral change, positives and negatives.

But only 12 questions? I was expecting more, or a question like "Give an example of when you have worked on a team project. What was the outcome and what was your role in the team?"

Though what ever makes ends meet. Best of luck to the staff and applicants!

That is odd, I don't remember that question being asked on the application it makes me wonder if the questions are randomly generated. I will admit they were a lot easier than I was expecting but I suspect this is the first step of many.

The questions were all written by humans.

Additionally, while previous experience can be helpful, it doesn't necessarily qualify someone to be in the staff here. Different communities have different goals and standards.

I only love you platonically.

Not exactly what I meant, I meant that perhaps a set of questions are written up and 12 of the ones written appear at random.

Agreed, didn't mean to imply that experience automatically means someone would be a fit for the job for those and other reasons.

Different questions achieve different outcomes. We want to know the same information about all our candidates rather then something random with each one. It helps to achieve a focus.

I think you read Derpy's post wrong. They were saying that that wasn't a question asked.

That's well said there, SCS. Some of the time, sites like to recruit people with some ground of experience on forums. But seeing that you guys not minding non experienced users really out shines the others. You guys are willing to see if this person can make a difference or even have a better style of moderating from past users.

And that's something this site hold; a chance, an opportunity, a moment to become something special for what you like, and which is why I wanted to apply. Again well said, SCS

Imagine if you will being on your death bed – And standing around your bed – the ghosts of the ideas, the dreams, the abilities, the talents given to you by life.

And that you for whatever reason, you never acted on those ideas, you never pursued that dream, you never used those talents, we never saw your leadership, you never used your voice, you never wrote that book.

And there they are standing around your bed looking at you with large angry eyes saying "We came to you, and only you could have given us life! But now. We must die with you FOREVER!

The question is – if you die today, what ideas, what dreams, what abilities, what talents, what gifts, would die with you?
