gaming "New" 3DS Announced by Nintendo.

Nintendo will fall when the PC falls. It's not gonna happen, no matter how much people say it will. And while the Wii U isn't profitable, the 3DS is very profitable and has almost no competition, unless you count the PS Vita. Which isn't even really that competitive. Nintendo as a whole has enough money to continue operating unprofitably until 2050, so any speculation that they're not gonna last much longer is pure, misinformed bullshit.

Anyway, I've been looking to upgrade my 3DS for a while now as it's an aging one from 2011 (bought it before the price drop) and it's really beginning to show its age. For a while I was having trouble with the Internet and the hardware is struggling to keep up with more modern games, like Pokemon out of all things. Although, Pokemon is more due to the game's poor optimization than anything, but whatever.

Definitely the 3DS........without a doubt and that's the only nintendo product i like.  yet, when i look at Wii U, it looks "eh".  Yet, as for the Vita (which is a piece of utter shit), i would take the 3DS over that, but let's see what occurs in the future.

I was initially shocked by this but now that I think about it, Apple releases new models for their products every year too without many changes outside more RAM and a faster processor. And some apps don't work on older iPhones.

My original 3DS died earlier this month and I was thinking of upgrading to an XL. They said these New models might come out in the US in 2015, but in Japan it comes out October. If it came out in the US in October as well that would be perfect for me because I'm anticipacting a lot of new games starting in October. I'm not that leery about the New models themselves but what I am leery about is that it might not come out until next year in the US. Should I get a 3DS XL now or just wait for the New 3DS?

I also hope it doesn't glare as much as the original 3DS.

I like the old design better. While it cant use amiibos (big deal, have a wii U anyway) and there are some nice overall hardware improvements, the overall design of this New 3DS seems really cluttered. I'm also not a big fan of the small analog stick at the upper right hand corner. It reminds me of that terrible thumb pad the PSP had, but somehow even smaller and pressed right up against the upper screen.

So yeah, if worse comes to worse and those buttons are required for some of my games, I'll just buy a circle pad pro instead.

Oh joy, yet another rehash!

I suppose there were so many for the DS that I'm not even surprised anymore.

What it does is pretty neat, but I just can't see a justification for getting the same system twice... Plus, the best 3DS design IMO was the original - it was pretty, it was sparkly! I love my sparkly blue 3DS. lol. This design looks so bland. It's as if they've taken some influence from the decades old original Gameboy, because it really kind of has that look... It's just lost all of the flare of the original 3DS.

I just hope they don't release any games that I actually want for it exclusively. However, seeing as most franchises I love have seen their release on the 3DS, I'm not too worried... Unless they put a Pokemon mainline release on it. =/

It's nice and all, but I already spent money on two 3DSes and I don't plan on spending money on a third. (The first one broke.) My XL is just fine. Plus, it has an Yveltal on it and doesn't look all cluttered. I doubt they'll be exclusively releasing games for it though. They make updates like this all the time for consoles nowadays.

If the new Pokemon sapphire and ruby remakes exclusive to this new 3DS. I'm going to break something.  I just got my new 3DS XL less than a year ago, and now there's an update.

Same here, buddy, same here.

At least updates like this reward people who take forever to get things like me? Although bad timing on my part. @_@

Just as a get a 3DS they announce this, they better do some kind of trade in deal for people who already own one, I really wish they had kept these ideas for their next gen handheld.

No matter how hard I try these ponies will simply never leave me.

Do you honestly believe that Nintendo would be dumb enough to make a game that was announced before this exclusive for this. Also they know that not everybody will have the new system and that would hurt sale. All that the New 3DS will do for Ruby and Sapphire is give it boosted processing.

Besides, the New 3DS is not releasing outside of Japan until 2015. There is nothing to worry about with Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, we can rest assured!

In defense for everyone saying Nintendo releases a new model every year, keep in mind that a lot of technology companies do this including Apple. Apple releases new models of their iPhone and iPad every year.

And Nintendo announced two models simultaneously which may be shocking, but Apple did the same thing last year with the 5C and 5S. Besides the older 3DS and 3DS XL are likely to get discontinued because of these models much like how older models of iPhones get discontinued. Also some iPhone apps aren't compatible with older models.

And I've never seen anyone complain that Apple releases new iPhone models every year. Maybe we're just not used to Nintendo doing that so much. I think it's something we need to get used to, and you don't need to buy a new model if you don't to unless there's a specific feature or game you can't pass up that's only on New 3DS.

Well, the mini-circle pad looks horrible but at least it's actually there.  But just, like, why not just put another regular-sized Circle Pad under the face buttons?  If they hadn't moved Start and Select, that area would be empty just like it is on the original systems.

When I read that they added ZL and ZR buttons, I was kind of hoping for trigger-styled buttons, even if it meant adding grooves to the back of the system.  I think that could have been done without sacrificing much in portability or comfort.

Anyway, I think I will be getting one of these.  Probably the XL (note that the 'LL' title is just what the XLs are called in Japan).  My 3DS's SD card slot malfunctions a lot and I already had to get the thing repaired once before.

I think for those that already own a 3DS, this 'new' one is meant to be more of a second/complimentary 3DS for those that might feel the need for one. I mean, if you already own a Circle Pad Pro, you won't be missing any of the controls options added to the newer model here(and you already have much better triggers/stick on the CPP even), and I'm sure there won't be all that many exclusive games for it either. So, even if you have gotten/planned on getting a current 3DS model sometime soon, I don't think there's too much to worry about with the New 3DS atm honestly.

Besides, if you wait for that dumb new thing you won't be able to play Smash Bros. right away!

The model looks nice, and I like how they're adding new features to it, but it leads me to a question or two...

Why didn't Nintendo use this model three years ago when the 3DS launched?

Why would they, just now, release a new model that has four shoulder buttons and a 2nd analog stick?
If games are made that require use of the new features for this 3DS, I'm not going to be a happy camper. I bought my 3DS last Summer, and I have a moderately large library. I know you can transfer data, but I don't like the idea of spending another 200 bucks on a new model of a system that should've had that model in the first place.

While I do like the console design, I, too, am a bit confused on the console name's choice. It's going to create a lot of confusion with buyers.

On another note, did they release a list of games that will be mandatory or enhanced by the New 3DS?

(coming soon)

I'm actually glad it isn't releasing Stateside this year because I have Hyrule Warriors, Smash Bros. (on both 3DS and Wii U), and Bayonetta 2 to buy before 2014 is done.  And there are a few other titles I either missed at release or am seriously considering once they do release (Captain Toad, looking at you).

But yes, I'm going to buy a New 3DS (the BIG version 'cause not going back to small screen xD ).  I'm sure there will eventually be a (for me) must have title that only the improved hardware can handle.  The only question is: what do I do with my Rainbow Dash edition pink 3DS XL??!? xD
