Two of my faves have been PinkieDash fics, The Games We Play and The Party Hasn't Ended...and I don't normally ship mares to mares XD What keeps me coming back to them is their writing.

Also one I'm reading right now is Fallout Equestria: Pink Eyes.  Familiar stuff to you FO:E fans, no doubt, but it's my introduction to the series and I'm really enjoying it. I'm reading it with no prior knowledge of FOE except for reading its wiki to some extent, and I'm not having many problems with references I don't get.

Good MLP fanfictions?

I like to think mine is, but I'm obviously biased. You really have to kind of look for yourself.

 

Personally, I don't care much for fanfics that try to mess with continuity too much. (That includes just about every fanfic that tries to establish relationships between characters that wasn't there before.). Anytime you mess with continuity, you run the risk of an episode coming along and invalidating your entire story, or else just making your story seem grossly out of character.

 

My personal preference is for stories that put the characters into unusual situations to see how they might react. The closer it feels to an actual episode, the better, even if it contains things that would never actually happen on the show (like death).

Other than the obvious titans in our literature (Fallout Equestria, Cupcakes, Rainbow Factory, etc), I've read quite a few others and they are such fun! The guy I'd always suggest is Obselescence, because that guy can write. One of my favorite works of his is "Promised Land" which is just... wow. Anyway, here's a list of fanfics you could read:

Okay, let's get the obviously best fanfic, My Little Dashie, out of the way. It's super sad but super beautiful.

 

I'm Gonna Cuddle You. And You're Going to Enjoy It! is a fanfic about a human in Equestria with a pathological fear of hugging who's being assaulted by every pony who wants to hug him. It's an awesome fast paced comedy with a simple but sweet premise behind it.

 

Lyra's Ultimate Item Emporium is another comedy about Lyra inheriting her parent's debt and deciding to create a shop to pay it off but having no idea how to run it.

But that's +40 chapters you will not regret reading through, since it has endearing characters, intricately described action, and an engaging story to boot.

It's a Dead Space/MLP crossover thing, it's not at silly and stupid as it sounds. It's all OCs, so yeah. No cringeworthy Out Of Character moments to worry about.

When you have the entire fallout series to rip ideas from, kinda hard to run outa them lol.

 

And boy, as a Fallout fanfiction, FoE  sucks. Best to recommend it to FiM fans only, as it works tons better from a FiM fanfic standpoint.

 

 

 

As for fics, I'd check out Rainbow Factory/pegasus device. I found both kinda fun.
