What is a Waifu?

Countess Noodle

Recommended Posts

So I have been browsing around and have seen a lot of people saying that this <insert name of mare here> is their waifu.

I don't understand. Why do people in general have waifus. Is it like playing make-believe house. Or do you actually want to be married to these ponies.

sincerely yours,

Well, why do you have a favourite pairing, actor, game, book, movie etc....

Mostly because i like her personality, her appearence and....her flank.

Because I'm a lonely bastard, and want to feel like I'm not totally alone.

Ok no not really, I'm pretty much am alone. It's just something fun to think about sometimes.

Feel free to add me on steam if you want to play something. Also don't be afraid to message and talk to me. I've had bad luck when I start a conversation, so I more then likely won't start one.

I had no idea what a waifu even was before this site. :derp:

Would I go all crazy obsessive like that guy who married his 3DS game girlfriend? No.

Would I join in the fun on MLPF about "my waifu Derpy", now that I have a frame of reference and understanding as to what it is? Sure. It's all in good fun.

If Derpy, or a person like her, was a part of my life...

I think I would be involved more as a brother, or father figure of some sort.

A Protector.

The Knight of the Derptor.

Because waking up in the morning and seeing Fluttershy in an apron making bacon and eggs is the ultimate fantasy.

But why? I don't really know. I guess because we all have fantasies.

I've probably answered this a dozen times already on these very forums lol, but:

I've a long history of developing some degree of affection towards animated characters; several of whom were NOT human.  In the case of MLP, there was a physical attraction before anything more meaningful developed.  I didn't decide to fall for Rainbow Dash.  I gravitated towards her from the start, enjoyed the moments she was on-screen...  But it took me some time to acknowledge (or even realize) that I harbored deeper feelings for her.  So when I say I love Rainbow Dash, I do mean it.

No, I don't go around verbally knocking the heads of others who have professed their love for Rainbow Dash (these people obviously have excellent taste).  I don't even necessarily take on everyone who lobs hyperbolic insults at her character.  I had feelings.  I acknowledged them.  I'm happier because of it.  I could explain further; attempt to justify these feelings.  But I really don't have to.

And you likedly noticed that I didn't presume to respond on behalf of all those who say they've a "waifu."  I can only speak for myself.

I personally just have a waifu for the fact that I can connect with that character and relate to them.

For me my waifus are selected by weather their personalities match with my own.

Why? Probably because I'm very lonely at times and this way I feel less lonely.

I've forged a very strong emotional attachment to Rarity in the past year - one that I see lasting for long after I leave brony-dom. She is a part of my identity now. I will outright say it - I've fallen in love with her. I'm in love with a fictional cartoon unicorn. Sounds weird coming off of the tongue, but goddamn, once you get the feeling, it's completely normal.

Lots of people don't take having a waifu as a serious thing, for any of you wondering as much - and that's totally cool with me. I do take Rarity seriously, though. Do I have a total monopoly on her? No. Can other people claim her as their waifu? Totally fine by me. Do I love her, cherish her, and get all giddy inside just thinking about her? Do I daydream about her when I should be paying attention in class, and do I find myself drawing her name out in hearts on my school papers? To all of those, yes. I think about her all the time, and through her I feel a sense of pure and unadulterated joy. Am I weird? Yeahh, but I don't really care. Rarity is my waifu, and she always will be, as far as I'm concerned :D

The way I do it is as a hobby or crush sort of thing, so I don't take it seriously. I guess it's to fill a void or entertain myself for a little bit, so I just like whomever I can identify with or has a trait(s) that I like.

Mind you, I have many friends and acquaintances, and I would like to date a real woman (I'm male, don't let the avatar fool you). I just do something for fun, but I can only speak for myself.

I find it not at all strange to have a waifu. In fact, I used to correspond with the young man who married Twilight Sparkle and sent those heated messages to Kevin Sano about his depiction of Twi in explicit situations. He's more of an Otaku/Hikikomori than I am. In my case, I gravitate towards Twilight myself and Fluttershy.

My definition of a waifu is somebody that you love, but not in reality.

My waifu of course is Fluttershy. fluttershy__s_paradise_by_johnjoseco-d46

Sorry for the display being so large. It's also displayed on my profile page.

I love Fluttershy with my heart because she's sweet, gentle, kind, generous, shy, etc.

That sweet voice of hers is calming, friendly. I like calm. I hate nonsense, loud noises and other things.

If it wasn't for this show and Fluttershy to teach me how to calm my nerves and anger, I would be a mess.
