Are there any episodes of MLP you hate?

I love this show a great deal so even the episodes that were just average I'm still a fan of and will gladly rewatch.

There are two however that even a devout fan like me can't defend and that is Non-Compete Clause and 2,4,6 Greeeat. :bea: I mean, oh my Celestia, your students are literally drowning! Will you two grow the hell up and get over your childish feuds that were resolved eight years ago! :mlp_wat:

As a matter of fact, any episode with the Student Six in them I avoid. I've talked at length before about why I hate those guys so much so I won't rant about it here.

Oh boy it's that time of the month again

I saw Newbie Dash when it first aired and it was the first time(and unfortunately not the last) where it actually felt like the writers hated the show they were working on and its audience. And I swear the only reason people defend and make excuses for it is because it's the episode where RD finally becomes a Wonderbolt and if anything it deserves harsher criticism for it, the episode takes 5 years of a character arc being built up only to throw it in the trash and laugh at fans for wasting 5 years of their lives expecting anything of merit on an episode that unironically says bullying and hazing are totally cool. I am absolutely sick of being talked down and lectured about it, hearing long winded explanations how the episode was actually very "profound and genius", "realistic","it fits RDs arc more" and how "the writers took this in a smarter direction". No it wasn't, by all accounts that we know of(because evidently the writers want to avoid talking about the episode) the writers knew the episode was going to be awful and didn't care, from Jim Miller running away from Twitter a day before the episode aired to Hasbro themselves mirroring most of the same complaints mid production people had with the episode when it aired.

It's been 5 years since the episode aired and I'm still waiting for an apology

Oh my god! :lostit: There's SO many god-awful episodes of MLP Friendship is Magic that I could rant on all day long. Don't get me wrong, I love the show and all, but when there's a bad episode, it's BAD!

To answer your question: YES!

Here are the episodes that really pisses me off:

(Language Warning)

- Mare Do Well: As much as love the early seasons to death and I will defend it til the day I freaking die, but even I can admit that it had it's bad moments. Mare Do Well is definitely one of them. I get that the message of this episode is to teach Dashie a lesson, but how the Mane 6 are any better? They're comes off as hypocrites and nobody called them out for it.

- Putting Your Hoof Down: This episode was so uncomfortable. I would love to have an episode about Fluttershy being assertive, but damn the execution was terrible.

- Dragon Quest: What a massive disappointment. This could've been a great opportunity to have a origin story for Spike. Instead, it was complete nonsense that I completely forgot what the episode was supposed to be about. Plus, Garble sucks.

-Spike at Your fucking Service can go fuck itself. Making Spike into complete dumbass does NOT equal comedy. It just cringe.

- One Bad Apple is very mean-spirited. The bullying message was tacked on, I do not like Babs Seed as a character, and seeing the CMCs being brutality hurt didn't sit right with me.

-Somepony Watch Over Me was a fucking trainwreck! It's one thing to make Applejack being protected to Apple Bloom, but then there's cracking up to 9000 and it's so annoying.

- No Second Prances was complete ass. Why was Twilight having a grudge against Trixie AFTER Magic Duel? It's so inconsistent. I like Trixie, but I don't like the fact that the writers trying to make her a complete pain in the ass. This episode only exists to subverts our expectations and give Glimmieboo something because they thought the friendship with the Mane 6 was completely pointless.

- Newbie Dash: Worst episode in ENTIRE franchise! It's disgusting, mean-spirited, and it's a double middle fingers to Rainbow Dash fans to all around the planet. @Soundwave already  sum up my thoughts on the episode for me. I don't want to talk about it anymore.

- 28 Pranks Later is Griffin the Brush Off 2.0, except WORSE. Right down to the freaking continuity error from the very beginning of the episode. It's tedious, it's cringe, it's very predictable, and it's such a massive waste of time.

- Honest Apple is such a wash. Applejack was a bitch, Rarity was a complete idiot, and the message was piss-poor. This episode should've been scrapped.

- Fame and Misfortune: Man, Hasbro seems to not to give Larson a break, can't they? This episode has so much potential to use the Friendship Journal for everyone to learn. Instead, it's just another brony pot shot episode that the joke gets old very fast. On top of that, no one seems to learn a lesson in the end, so who's appealing to? Nobody.

- Fake it Til You Make It is Putting Your Hoof Down and Green Isn't Your Color 2.0 and it's not worth mentioning.

- Non-Complete Clause, more like Fall Weather Friends 2. Why would the writers has to rehash a good episode and just shit all over it? The competition thing was so unnecessary, Rainbow Dash and Applejack is completely stupid, and as much as I don't the like the Student Shits, but even I do feel bad for them. Seeing Applejack and Rainbow care more about a silly competition than the students is unacceptable. On top of that, one of the students was fucking drowning! How would AJ and Dash feel if Apple Bloom and Scootaloo were in the situation as Yona?

That's what I thought. Finally, they didn't learn a lesson in the end. So fuck this episode.

- Yakkity Sax was a walking contradiction. Instead of Pinkie Pie being a happy character that just loves making other ponies happy, we have Pinkie who loves to play that yaksaphone because that her only purpose to make her happy? What?! That make NO sense! This episode only exists for Pinkamena fanservice. Love me some Pinkamena, but even that doesn't help,

- Father Knows Beast. Yet again, wasted potential. Whoopie doo.

- School Daze and School Raze: Both of those two parters suck. Everything from the school, students, Cozy, Neighsay, and everything in between. It such a shitshow.

- Last Crusade was such a PAIN. Not to mention, insulting considering the Scootaloo's parents NEVER takes care for Scoots at all. Also, the CMC crying pity party is like listening to nails to chalkboard that I want to watch Show Stoppers again.

-2, 4, 6, Great-A Horseshit: Do I need to say anything about this?

-A Trivial Pursuit: What a complete bastardazation of Twilight's character. I know Twilight had crazy moments in the past, but not like this. Also, the ugly-ass facial expressions doesn't help the episode at all. It's cringe from beginning to end.

- The Beginning of the End and Ending of the End: This may sound controversial, but I can't stand both of those episodes. It's completely unwatchable and uncomfortable for me. I get that its supposed to be the final season and all, but the episodes shouldn't tried to be something that it wasn't. Don't get me started on the stupid-ass twist.:unamused:

So those are the episodes of MLP that I hate.

Your welcome.:mlp_wink:

While Friendship is Magic has a lot of great episodes that I love to watch, there is also a chunk of episodes that I dislike, some of which pretty strongly.

The big one that comes to mind is "School Daze", This is definitely the worst two-parter and probably even the worst episode in the series, in my opinion. The big issue with this episode is not just all the bad aspects of the episode itself, but also how it negatively impacted the series by adding in the School of Friendship and the Student Six; two terrible concepts. Some of the other major issues with this episode include its uninteresting story, very poorly written characters, and confusing concepts and conflicts. There were also many examples of things that didn't make sense in this episode from the mane six becoming teachers despite being unqualifies and already having jobs, having a school to teach something that is learned through experiences, and other random things, like Ocellus getting not getting any reprimand or consequences for crashing into the school and almost crushing some students. This is just scratching the surface on how bad this two-parter was, and it's safe to say it's my least favorite one (School Raze is pretty bad too, but this one is worse in my opinion).

Two other examples of episodes a very strongly dislike are "Non-Compete Clause" and "2, 4, 6, Greeeat". These episodes completely butchered the characters they were about, and were pretty terrible from start to finish. In "Non-Compete Clause" Rainbow Dash and Applejack were written horribly just to make the bland student six look good in comparison. It was trying to rehash a fun episode from season one, but it failed completely at doing so, causing it to be a gut-punch to any of Rainbow Dash's and Apple Jack's character development. As for "2, 4, 6, Greeeat" it also made RD seem completely rude and incompetent just to prop up some of the students. Not only that, but it's concept was just stupid from the start. The whole thing was just a setup from Twilight to "teach" RD a lesson, and it really makes her out to be an obnoxious character. It is episodes like these that make it seem like the writers hate RD. These two episodes, along with "School Daze", are my three most hated episodes in the series.

There is a good chunk of episodes that I dislike or think are forgettable, but these three, along with some others, standout for being the worst.

I don't hate nearly as many episodes as I once did, but I still have ones I held onto for many years.

Season 1: Owl's Well. What's there to say about it that hasn't been said? It established the torture porn formula for future Spike episodes. Twilight never looked any worse than here; it was her worst appearance then and remained so for the rest of the run.

Season 2: Mare Do Well: The first episode of the show that I hated, and after rewatching it a few years later, it looked even worse. The worst part about this garbage is how Dash's "friends" treated not only her, but more specifically every single pony in peril as a means to an end to teach Dash a lesson.

Season 3: The Crystal Empire: While it's better than some other episodes from that season (i.e., One Bad Apple), there's one part of this episode that I still can never stand: the "test." Thousands of revived lives from The Crystal Empire were treated as a means by the princesses for Twilight to prove she can lead. Unacceptable!

Season 4: Rainbow Falls: Not much needs to be said. This episode is a complete and utter writing failure.

Season 5: Princess Spike: This episode is the pinnacle of Spikeabuse. DHX wrote him as the buttmonkey because they could. Spike's decisions make no sense. The delegates are idiots. The moral he learned is a complete non sequitur. Even worse, ponies gave him a Dragon Sneeze bouquet after they helped mend the statue, implicating to the audience that their youngest and only male lead is beneath the Mane Six.

Season 6: Newbie Dash & 28PL: Ooh, boy. Season 6 was a REALLY bad year for Rainbow Dash, thanks to these two. Newbie Dash is what MMC would be if the writing was legitimately terrible. However, MMC does a decent job proving how much Twilight earned her ascension; Newbie Dash turned what was supposed to be a triumph after so many years into the show's biggest black hole. As far as 28 Pranks Later's concerned, this atrocity rips off MDW and turns it into an even worse incarnation with the worst moral of the season.

Season 7: Fame & Misfortune: If you're gonna attempt an "attack-the-ctitics" episode, know what you're doing, or expect a much louder megaphone at your direction. Every single idea and writing decision is complete garbage. The allegories are trash. The morals are trash. There's barely even a "story" here! Flawless is the worst song of the series. The atmosphere is extremely cynical. Every background character is completely out of character. It expects the audience to watch the show exactly the same way as the creators' intentions and accept it at face value. All of the criticisms they responded to were dated by the time The Cutie Map aired. The ReMane Seven publish the journal while openly revealing Daring Do is not only real, but also has an alias without her consent. After spending the entire episode bullying older AND younger fans alike, they plug in two tokens to tell young girls "We care about you!" in the shallowest way possible.

I don't hate any episode from Seasons 8 or 9.

  1. For Season 8, while Fake It is the worst episode of the season, Dash's and AJ's carelessness and selfishness are why I dislike Non-Complete Clause more.
  2. As for S9, I only dislike one episode: Greaaat. Is it as bad as any of the ones I hate? Not even close. But Dash's egregious behavior and Twilight artificially stoking conflict hurt it a ton, and I won't rewatch it anytime soon.

I don't try to hate especially with this show. There is one episode which I really dislike and I think it has no understanding of the main character in it: 2,4,6 Great from s9

There are two other episodes from season 8 which I don't  like either. From season six there is the Cart before the Ponies episodes which mostly good episode, but in the end it tries to fool the viewer/me.

Off the top of my head, Father's Knows Beast, Non-Complete Clause, Spike at Your Service, What About Discord?, 28 Pranks Later and Sweet and Smoky. I wouldn't say that I hate them with every fiber of my being, but I can tell you that I don't have any plans on watching those ones ever again.

Two Words: Newbie    Dash

I simply cannot stress how much of a dumpster fire this episode was. It’s literally the first episode we see Rainbow Dash as a Wonderbolt and we get this pile of garbage…from the writers upholding hazing, which could be considered a form of bullying to them trying to cover up their massive blunder with a supposed lesson about fitting in. This episode could’ve been Putting Your Hoof Down 2.0, which would’ve been awesome to see Rainbow put the Wonderbolts in their rightful place once again.

That’s really the only episode that I hate.

- Non-Compete Clause (RD and AJ arguing got old. Episodes like these make me wonder how they got together at the end of season 9.)

- Yakity-Sax (Pinkie’s instrument was just awful to listen to and she played it for the whole episode)

- Trivial Pursuit (Twilight being rude to Pinkie over a trivia game is just ridiculous, especially since Pinkie knew all the answers. Twilight should’ve known better by then that Pinkie’s brain isn’t to be taken for granted.)

- Friendship University (This wasn’t a horrible episode but it wasn’t great either. Starswirl was oblivious to Flim and Flam despite going up against countless villains who may have also pulled some tricks in their time. It seemed very out of character for him.)

I only hate episodes that are so bad that they legitimately make me angry. There are many episodes that I don't like, but very few that I hate. I really don't like episodes like Rainbow Falls and Owl's Well That Ends Well, but I wouldn't say I hate them, because even though they're absolute disasters, I can't bring myself to be angry at them. They just tried to make a good episode and failed. That happens a lot.

But there are a few that I hate.

Most Starlight episodes: I just hate Starlight and everything she represents. Any episode with her is automatically worse.

School Daze: The school was a horrible idea and should've never happened.

28 Pranks Later: It almost feels like the writers wanted people to hate this episode with how obnoxious Dash is. It's fine to make Dash an asshole, but actually make it funny. And don't start with one of worst scenes in the entire show. You have to build up to something like that. Even Mare Do Well understood this.

Non-Compete Clause: Two things push this up to the hate category. First, it feels like this episode was only made to shill the students. Two, the students are shilled by making Rainbow, Applejack, and even Twilight horrible. Just based on this episode, I wouldn't think these three were ever friends.

Daring Don't: Dash is so unlikeable and obnoxious here. She straight up tracks down A.K. Yearling to tell her to work faster and then gets involved in Daring Do's adventure despite her not wanting Dash there and never gets called out for it. Instead, we're supposed to sympathize with her and then she gets rewarded.

The Summer Sun Setback: I only hate this episode because of how Twilight is handled. The episode is so in your face about how Twilight has grown despite A Trivial Pursuit happening right before this. Character development doesn't happen off screen. Discord's line about character growth is my most hated line in the entire show.

The Beginning of the End: Everything about this episode rubs me the wrong way, but the most noticeable thing about this episode to me is all the trash about Twilighting. That scene in Twilight's castle where the mane six brush off Twilight's completely's valid concerns is one of the worst (if not the worst) in the whole show.

Let's see now:

Spike at Your Service: Spike being rendered grossly incompetent for no other reason than the plot demands it? That was downright cringe-worthy.

Newbie Dash: Rainbow Dash imitating her friends in some half-assed attempt to stand out was even more cringe-worthy. Delivering an otherwise legitimate message of being a team player by way of condoning hazing and brushing aside Rainbow's traumatic flashbacks didn't help matters either.

What About Discord?: Discord's humor was based entirely around jokes that the audience couldn't get. How the writers thought that would be entertaining is beyond me.

Non-Compete Clause: So Applejack and Rainbow Dash can't be bothered to set their competitive streak aside, even when the safety of their students is at stake? Horse apples. Plus them arguing over who was more committed to putting a stop to their arguing was downright painful to watch.

2, 4, 6, Great!: Rainbow Dash being disappointed about being assigned to the cheer squad when she'd likely be more interested in actual athletics was understandable. Her openly disparaging the very concept of cheerleading to said squad, including students who have her as a teacher, and showing zero empathy until being explicitly called out on her behavior? That was unforgivable.

I'm not sure I'd say "hate" (strong word yadda yadda yadda), but there are definitely a few I dislike.

My least favorite episode is easily Newbie Dash. Just all around feels painful to watch with how... well, everyone is characterized (The Wonderbolts being dickish, Rainbow Dash herself acting like an idiot), how it feels like the episode treats Rainbow Dash like a joke, and the pretty questionable moral. And these problems feel even more magnified by the fact that this is basically a "landmark" episode (in terms of Rainbow Dash finally achieving her dream from the start of the show), which makes the episode look even worse in retrospect. It's one of those episodes I find myself disliking more every time I watch it.

Outside of that, there's One Bad Apple - in which, as someone who's been a bully victim, the way they simplify the moral to "just tell an adult!" always rubbed me the wrong way.

There's also Boast Busters which... I can't really say I dislike quite as much as I used to, but the characterizations of Rainbow Dash, Rarity, and Applejack all jumping at Trixie for putting on a magic show always felt pretty cringey to me, and from there I also feel like with how this episode is written, there's a lot of aspects to the plot that just outright don't *work* to me. It introduced a great character though, so I guess there's some good to it.

The Mysterious Mare Do Well - Rainbow Dash acts mildly boastful. Her friends teach her a lesson by being far more mean spirited than she ever was and repeatedly humiliating her in public. And we’re supposed to side with them?

Tanks for the Memories - Rainbow Dash spends the entire episode acting like a spoilt child because her tortoise is hibernating.

The Super Cider Whatever - Flim and Flam really didn’t do anything wrong here. They invented a machine that makes high quality cider faster than traditional methods and they’re the bad guys because reasons.

One Bad Seed  - Babs spends the entire episode belittling and harassing the CMC, but apparently it’s okay that she treats people like this because she got bullied too. She gets no comeuppance at all and the CMC get punished for daring to fight back. As someone who was bullied a lot as a child, this is really frustrating.

Literally any episode involving Flurry Heart - Just no. This thing is like an escapee from generation 3.5

The Ending of the End for successfully making Discord into one of the most unsympathetic and unlikeable characters in the series, and making everyone else look bad too. Discord makes the biggest and stupidest mistake he's ever made right at the end of the show, causes all the major problems of the entire season, get's completely forgiven after doing the bare minimum to make up for it all, and isn't even called out for some of the worst parts of his actions. He get's called out for being an idiot and putting Equestria in danger, but literally nobody cares about what he did to the villains. He set them free just to manipulate and use them for his own plans, actively encouraged them to keep being evil and even kind of physically abused them, all just to use them for a stupid plan to boost Twilight's confidence? I don't care if they're villains and I don't care if they betrayed him and did evil of their own free will in the end, what he did to them was awful and the fact nobody even says a word about it makes me angry. They care about what he did so little that they're even willing to let him suggest and help with the trio's punishment, which whether the trio deserve it or not just feels incredibly unjust. It makes everyone else just look horribly hypocritical and unheroic to let him do this.

Not to mention what he did to Sombra, which depending on how you look at it might actually be the most evil thing he's ever done in the entire series. Because at best he resurrected a guy and stupidly allowed him to get killed again, at worst he resurrected a guy specifically to get him killed again. Regardless of how evil Sombra himself is, if it's the second...that'd honestly be the most cruel and monstrous thing Discord has ever done in my eyes, regardless of innocent or not his victim is.

Also, The Last Problem. It's...fine, I guess. But I'm not a fan of how the whole Princesses retiring arc was handled so that kind of sours the whole aspect of Twilight having to move to Canterlot for me, the lesson is great but the build-up to it just doesn't work. Plus I just don't like time skips. This one is more personal than anything, I suppose. I just hate time skip finales in general and this episode did nothing to change my mind.

Yeah, I'm really not a fan of this shows ending at all, unfortunately.

Oh boy. I love complaining and being nitpicky, this is the forum for me :Pharynx: but in all seriousness, I don't outright /hate/ any episodes... but there are certainly some that i have opinions on :proud: I'll just organize by season for simplicity. I pretty much love seasons one and two, so I'll start with three:

One Bad Apple: Kind of a given here. I thought the episode was good, and sympathized with the CMC, and it honestly has one of the best songs in the series IMO. It just ended weird. Suddenly you can't follow through on your revenge scheme, because what? You decide you're better than Babs Seed at the last minute? Honestly I think the whole parade thing should've been followed through, so the CMC [or at least Apple Bloom and Scoots] could realize that it's bad to hurt other ponies, while Babs gets a taste of her own medicine. Sweetie Belle could run off beforehand and get an adult like Applejack, idk. It was just handled weird. I certainly never felt that much sympathy for my bullies growing up:mlp_wat:

[Season 4] Bats!: Ok, this is a big one for me. For context, I come maaaaany generations of farmers. I'm saving up to own my own small farm. I am ALSO an animal lover, and a big supporter of animal welfare. This episode made no sense to me. Applejack has a devastating pest that could drive her farm out of business, and what is Fluttershy's response? "Just be kind to them because they're animals"? I know it's a kid's show, but if someone asked me or my neighbors to not... "deal" with the predators that damage our flocks, I'm sure we'd all be right pissed. And we're just hobby farmers. Applejack farms apples for her entire family's living. It's extremely selfish Fluttershy to have Applejack give an entire orchard to them just to appease her. I swear, if there were an episode about invasive species the writers would have Fluttershy side with them too.

[Season 5] Bloom and Gloom: Honestly not much to say about this one, it was just poor writing. And kinda confusing. The entire episode was just dream sequence after dream sequence and it all just boiled down to "Applebloom stresses about her cutie mark". Meh

Amending Fences: This is my least favorite episode in the series. Won't get on my soap box for this one, but Moondancer is annoying and whiny. Sure she can be upset with Twilight for missing her party, but she shut herself off from the rest of her friends and then acted like she wasn't to blame for that. Also Twilight literally left by Princess Celestia's orders so idk. Very weird episode for me

What About Discord?: I don't /hate/ this one, but it's hard to watch. Twilight's friends really should have picked up on the fact that they were leaving her out in conversations, it's just rude to make jokes someone's not in on constantly. But hey, it's also a good lesson for kids, so eh. I mostly give this one a pass cause I do ship TwiCord, and it's funny that Discord basically just wants Twi's attention the whole time (or at least that's how I interpret it (Same with the episode Three's a Crowd)

[Season 6] No Second Prances: I thought Twi and Trixie had resolved their differences? One of the first examples of the Mane 6's character development getting trashed on to develop other characters

[Season 7] A Flurry of Emotions: Twilight you are watching a baby, you need to pay attention to it. (I don't like Flurry Heart, or babies in general for that matter.. but cmon)

Fame and Misfortune: If you're gonna make an entire episode about how Flaws Are Natural and No One Is Perfect, at least make sense of it. It was pretty much just an episode dedicated entirely to mocking fan complaints (sure, most of them were nit-picky complaints, but still). It was mostly the lack of self-awareness for me. As if the writers weren't aware that any flaws in the show are /their/ fault? Because the characters are all fictional? :sealed: I liked the song though, so points for that.

[Season 8] Non-Compete Clause: Again, the writers backtracking on the Mane 6's character development just to benefit the new characters. Rainbow I could understand, but Applejack, really? Putting students in danger just for a competition? I don't think even Rainbow would go that far.

The Mean 6: All that build up to Chrysalis finally making a return for literally NOTHING to happen the entire episode. Also, the dialogue for the Mean 6 was..... yeowch :yeahno:

Father Knows Beast: Spike learns about emotional manipulation. I guess.

[Season 9] The Last Problem: Made me cry. Not allowed :okiedokieloki:

Woof! Lots of words there. Thanks for sticking with me if you actually read all that cx

There are no episodes that I hate, not any more anyway. I used to slightly hate The Mysterious Mare Do Well because something just feels off about it, something I can't easily explain but to me it was the kind of standard storyline I'd expect to see in other cartoons and made FiM seem like just another cartoon.

But when I rewatched the episode a few months ago it didn't seem so bad, and in fact it wasn't even my least favourite episode anymore. That would be She Talks to Angel which I don't hate but find a bit uninteresting. I also like Mare Do Well more than Baby Cakes, Just for Sidekicks and It Ain't Easy Being Breezies.

Like many people that have already commented I would begin by saying 'hate' is maybe too strong a term. I'm not sure I could go so far as to say I legitimately 'hate' any episodes, but for me the definite lowlights of the series were 'What About Discord' and 'Make New Friends But Keep Discord'. I loved Discord in 'The Return of Harmony' but the writers seemed to really struggle to find a way to use him after his reformation, leading to these two fairly dreadful episodes. They managed to get him back on track again for 'To Where And Back Again', but that doesn't undo the fact that in season five they really wanted to use him but just had no idea what to do with him.
