Most difficult game you've played?

My Little Pony:Fighting is magic,I Guess i'm a noob at fighting games  :(

right up there with ya, mate X3

but if I had to think of the hardest game I've ever attempted, it would have to be five nights at freddy's

why? you have to take into account the fear factor, that alone is enough to drive you crazy; on top of that, the 6th night is impossible, at least I've tried it for months and could never beat it; thus, I could never finish the game

I plan to buy and play Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, looks awesome, but it's also considered one of the most brutally difficult games out there, the Persona series was never considered the hardest despite the moments, so I can see why most would think that

Also, the night queen, Nyx, is acactually not that difficult, if you could, oh I don't know, have the ability to control your team members or actually defend, then this boss would be challenging yet fair, but since it isn't? Well.. yeah

I haven't fought Nyx yet, but I haven't found Persona 3 all that difficult outside of maybe one or two boss fights and the infamous Sleeping Table. Maybe I just got lucky and managed to fuse a good number or Personas that block or resist most bosses.

I was the opposite in that I played Nocturne before Persona 3. Word of warning: Nocturne will make you curl up in a corner and cry after hurling your controller against a wall in frustration. For a first playthrough, try to avoid the candelabrum fights outside of the unavoidable Matador (who isn't as difficult as his reputation persists) lest you wish to square off against the Four Horsemen.

That moment when Final Fantasy of all things is considered difficult.

Just out of curiosity, how do the controls suck? Seemed pretty logical to me.

Roguelikes as a genre are known to be pretty difficult. Some more than others but the random factor can really screw you over. It then becomes a question of whether the game is truly difficult or there is just literally nothing you can do to save yourself.

I'd go so far as to say that if you need to grind in a Final Fantasy game you're doing it horribly wrong. Most of the games (from VI and onward) are built in a way that you can become extremely powerful at just the right times so you never have to struggle or grind at any point in the main game.

Although then we had to add sidequests into the equation, both midgame and endgame ones, that can influence a lot of stuff

yeah, i usually just blaze through it and run from enemies and stuff cause i got bored or annoyed fighting an enemy every 2 steps. seriously, I got attacked every two to five steps. thats annoying. so when i got to the final boss i was seriously under-powered, but still managed to beat it. after bout two days of trying to beat it. not leaving to lvl up or anything.

It may sound funny,

but the hardest game I have ever played is Luigi's Mansion for the Gamecube. I always played it when I got home from Kinder Care and I finished it about five years later, it took a lot time because I did not know what to do for the longest of time.

Sonic Unleashed, PS2. So different from all the others. The dodgy physics and iffy controls made the last stage hard, but that was expected, it WAS the last stage after all! Then the time-trial version of that stage you had to complete was even harder...Then Dark Gaia...He was the definition of unfair, OP, rape. He attacked, gave little-to-no warning, and would kill you in a few hits. His eyes never targeted, so actually hitting him took an age, and the timer was always counting down...

Dark Gaia took me 2 years.

On the PS3 version, however, it took me two tries.

MMX2 wasn't friendly either..

But then, depending upon how you play games, some can be very difficult to some people, and not for others: Example: Deus Ex Human Revolution- Foxiest, Pacifist. Hell.

I grew up on Nintendo NES, the most difficult game was actually on Nintendo 64, and it was Superman, it was difficult to figure out and the controls are real awkward, it was harder to play with such a short time limit, it felt like you had to be a perfect video gamer in order to play it, to fly through rings with great accuracy and flawless timing, sometimes Superman would get stuck at obstacles, like walls and roads, it would get very tiring to play this game too long, then it would wear on your patience, especially when you have to play each level after you failed, I have never completed this game, neither of my friends have ever completed the game either, the Angry Video Game Nerd perfectly voiced everyone's experience with this game.

Not gonna say Super Meat Boy since that's intentionally hard, nor Final Fantasy IV since the DS remake and subsequent ports of that are meant to be hard. So instead, I'll say Metroid Prime 2. It wasn't a rare occurrence I was stuck on a boss in that for weeks on end - months, in the case of the Spider Guardian.

It's been quite a while, so I don't remember everything about the controls that I didn't like.

I do remember that the control scheme seemed counterintuitive, and I didn't like how slowly the game responded to controller input.

Kid Icarus. Not Uprising, but the first one. It took me so long to get to the 1-4 and I just can't for the life of me get past it. I'll pick it up every now and then, die 20 times without making any progress, and then decide to play something else

F-Zero GX gets ridiculous especially in Story Mode

Yeah, F-Zero GX was very unforgiving when I played it. Glad I beat, though. :proud:

Isn't Trumpeter unavoidable too? I never beat him and couldn't beat the game because of it. The place you need to go is behind him in one of the tunnels.

But yeah, Nocturne is one of the hardest RPGs out there. Alternatively Digital Devil Saga is easy as shit by comparison. Part of it is the far more linear ability system but I'll be damned if I let that get in the way of how awesome the story is. Still need to get back to DDS2. I got a few dungeons in then went to play something else... :P

It depends heavily on which Final Fantasy you're talking about. The earlier ones definitely had a high encounter rate. Unbearably so. The later games are less so, especially once you get into XII and onward where the enemies are visible on the battlefield and you can legit avoid them if you want.

It's been quite a while, so I don't remember everything about the controls that I didn't like.

I suppose I can't deny it but it makes sense at the same time. You gotta imagine how many calculation the game is making in that instant between your button press and when it does something. It's calculating how much stamina you're using with what weapon, what it's hitting and how much it should take based on stats, on top of trying to have fairly accurate hit detection (something the Souls series is known for) along with all the animation calculations it has to go through. All that in such a short amount of time. It's not hard to get used to it and the game is slow-paced enough to make up for it. It's not like the enemies are moving at Devil May Cry speed with massive amounts of delay or anything.

Geometry Dash is... frustrating. I have tried getting past the first level like 500 times and no matter how many times I try and fail, how many times I try memorizing the the jumps, trying to get each jump just right... I fail. Perhap though it is because I have been playing it on my iPod. SIghs

Dark Souls, for me, wasn't too hard.

Five Night at Freddy's, especially the later stages, and including the sequel, is pretty tricky. I never really played any of the "hard" games, but I tend to use up the power more often than I should. :P

The sequel is all about perfect timing. One second of hesitation will end your night seemingly quickly.

gonna take you out

I can't remember what was the hardest game I've ever played, but I can remember hard parts/levels of certain games:

Grandmaster Galaxy (The Perfect Run) - Super Mario Galaxy 2

Eggmanland - Sonic Unleashed

Scrap Brain Zone - Sonic 1

Later levels of Transformer: The Game

Certain levels of Sonic Heroes

But mostly, I am absolute rubbish at first-person shooter games.

Nope, Trumpeter is completely avoidable. I know this because I avoided him. Whenever you encounter a Fiend, it gives you the option to run. The odds of this are really low though so nine times out of ten this'll do nothing and force you to fight them anyway. However, if you happen to be high enough level and the RNG takes pity on you it'll allow you to pass by completely unmolested. Should you pass by there again then it'll force you to fight it, but since I can just jump from Save Points I never had to take that route ever again. Matador is the only Fiend you can't run from through.

Honestly, I just got really lucky and sat there for a few seconds in shock going "Wait...so I don't have to fight him?"

I could list quite a few, based on either fair challenge, bullet-hell-style Armageddon, instant-kill nonsense, and the ultimate test of might.

Fair Challenge Hard is: Resident Evil 1 through 3. Game helps along, and it's relatively simple to get by, but don't get comfortable. This game wants you to manage your inventory space and every little resource you find. It's a face-off against your own compulsiveness with this game.

Bullet Hell Armageddon is: Halo 2 on Legendary. This nightmare is unbeatable. Shields are sacked immediately upon combat, and you'll experience unmatched joy upon getting a sniper rifle or rocket launcher, because their presence will make the game much easier, if only for a little while.

Instant Kill Nonsense is: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. I know the ES veterans like to thump their chest about how "easy" this game is but in terms of just combat damage it's ridiculously unbalanced. Playing on Master, I encountered Bandit Marauders that died almost instantly and wolves that ripped me to shreds instantly. Plus the cinematic-style instant kills that just seem to boil down to chance are legitimately unfair. Even at level 75+ I find this game VERY hard.

Ultimate Test of Might is: The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall. This. Game. Is. Unreal. UN...REAL. It does not tell you where to go, what to do, what you need, NOTHING. It tells you NOTHING. You'll be lucky, LUCKY, if you make it out of the first area alive. Combat is clunky, navigation is horrendous, and the enemies hound you at every step.

Honorary mentions: These games are hard, but only because of weird stuff like game engine or first-time blues.

Fallout 3: This game kicked my ass when I first played, but now, with more than 7 completions of EVERY SINGLE THING in the game I've got it mastered. Beautiful game, this one is hard because of the unreal enemy damage and "danger zones" where extremely powerful enemies spawn. You have no idea where these danger zones are, so there's nothing like walking into a seemingly abandoned city only to be jumped by Deathclaws. But beware, the glitches are almost as lethal as the enemies.

Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. This game's engine is WEIRD. Frankly horrible. World interaction is disgusting, chance-to-hit is archaic, and the COMPLETE lack of fast travel means you're going to get the FULL experience; every rock, every cobblestone, and every tree. Enemies are powerful as all get out, and random encounters will quickly make you paranoid of every person you see. There's nothing like spending half an hour trying to find a ring in a pond for an exotic dancer only for her to turn into a Daedra and instant kill you.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. This game's controls are counter-intuitive upon first playing, but when they are finally mastered it's a blast. BEAUTIFUL, LEGENDARY game of legitimate artistic merit, this one is full of all sorts of interesting quirks that are hard gameplay-wise, but brilliant in the same sense.

Silent Hill 2: In a sense, this game is pretty easy. But try playing it when you're 9 or 10. Fear-factor alone will make this game a harrowing experience. This is the kind of game that can literally shape your mind with abject terror, and the message the story conveys.

O_O But...but...WHY. I stated the game over and wrote over that save cuz I was gonna try to get strong enough to beat him on a second run. ;-;

Oh well. I would have to fight him eventually. On my second playthrough, whenever I decide to get back to it, I'm going for the True Demon ending so I have to beat him no matter what I do. I switched to Hard Mode though so it's going to be considerably tougher... <.< >.> >.<

My Grandpa has a Supernintendo with Donkey Kong on it. Despite spending many hours throughout the years trying to do so, I have never managed to beat that damn game. It's practically impossible.
