How and when did you become a brony?

I constantly went to Halolz for entertaining videos and pics, at some point they started posting Ponies inbetween videogame posts. I forget if I discovered it was popular before Halolz started posting Ponies, but then I became really interested and started watching season 1.

I was hooked by episode 3 .

I became a brony after seeing too much of it on 4chan and other image boards, until that one day I decided to watch the first episode... and boy, I can't let it go now D:

I caught on quite late, I had heard MLP mentioned in several places but I was sceptical and dismissed it as a kids show since i usually dont enjoy anything made for kids despite how good it is (like most pixar films).

 

But eventually I decided to give it a go and started watching episodes on youtube. I was still sceptical to start with but by the 4th episode I was completally hooked.

 

I seriously cant think of any better way to get rid of stress than to blast it out with a rainbowy party cannon full of my little pony.

I was looking at fanart on the internet for anime and other stuff. I somehow ran into some pony related things having no idea what they were. Started investigating further, and eventually found myself on youtube. I discovered Derpy and Doctor Whooves and found it very entertaining, started watching the actual episodes of FiM and became a brony instantly. I knew I was a brony for life when I walked down the MLP aisle at a store and bought my first toys.

it was last year in march i was reading meme base and there it was a pony lol i was like that looks legit then more never questioned the sex or race it just felt right to like the show then december came watched couple eps and here i am.

I don't entirely remember how I became a brony, honestly. It was probably the moment I saw actual clips from the show, probably over a year ago now. Prior to it, I was just neutral to the show. I didn't hate it or people who watched it, but I didn't think I'd ever watch it myself. Shows much I know, huh? My first real introduction to it, I suppose, came from a group of friends who are studying to be animators. They often talk a lot about cartoons and the like and I heard about it a lot from them. It didn't sound too bad. That's probably what sparked my initial venture into Bronydom. Then...yeah, it just snowballed from there.

I first heard about it in late Febuary/early March of last year, but didn't watch it until May-ish :] I'd say that I became a brony that time, as I enjoyed the show, but I wasn't as huge of a fan as I am now

I used to spend a lot of time on 4chan, still go there a few times a week, and that's where I first started noticing the show garnering serious popularity. For the first couple of months, I thought it was just 4chan being 4chan and the idea that the show was actually good didn't even cross my mind.

But unlike other various trends I've seen on 4chan, the ponies didn't fade away after a couple months. I realized people were actually liking the show and I couldn't help but ask myself what the attraction was; I wasn't being judgmental about it, just confused. I started to become a little more curious when I saw some animated gifs taken from the show and noticed how fantastic the animation was.

Then I saw a thread started for the show on TFW2005 where somebody mentioned that Lauren Faust was involved and cited that she had worked on The Powerpuff Girls.

"Now it's starting to make sense."

For a few more weeks, I staved off the temptation to give the show a watch but still enjoyed some of the image macros and looked at some clips on YouTube. The first bit of video footage from the show I remember actually watching was "Guile's Theme Goes With Everything: Sonic Rainboom".

So, as I worked on my final film for college, I wanted background noise to work to. I decided to finally watch the show. After the first episode, I had a lukewarm reaction to it but I continued on because it was a 2-parter and I figured I might as well watch at least the opening plot to the end. After the second episode, I still wasn't sold on the show but...for no real reason I can discern, I kept watching it.

Around the same time, I also started watching the web-series Marble Hornets. It was a nice balance to be able to watch some of Marble Hornets, get really creeped out, then watch My Little Pony for a quick palette cleanser.

 

And that's how Equestria was made!

I became a brony in, I think it was november of 2011.

My brother kept begging me to watch one episode, in that first episode i saw, i thought, Rainbow Dash was made for me. As i kept watching, I realized I have alot in common with Applejack, then i became, AppleDash, and i still am til' this day.

It's ironic, really. About a year ago, a friend of mine tried to introduce me to it as he thought it was somewhat interesting (he wasn't a brony at the time). I wasn't too impressed (it was the pilot episode), and we didn't get all the way through before finding something else to do.

 

Fast forward several months later: after having heard and seen things about it on the internet so much, my curiosity got piqued, so eventually I looked it up again and decided to give it a second chance (specifically watch until the third episode before I passed judgement). I'm glad I did, though, I got hooked. :3

 

The ironic part is I showed it to said friend again, and hearing me give the show praise inspired him to give the show a second chance as well. Sure enough, about a week later he told me he'd become a brony. So I'd ended up converting the guy who converted me. :3

I actually started in the Anti-Pony camp.

 

I saw the memes and I wasn't impressed. I thought the show was just another one of those things on the internet that would rise and fall. All I had to do was wait it out.

 

Ohhohohohoho... boy was I wrong.

 

And then sometime in January, a friend threw this video at me.

 

 

I became a closet Brony. Fluttershy, you rock.

 

Still, it wasn't until a rerun of Dragonshy that I finally admitted it both to myself and to everyone else. Again, Fluttershy, YOU ROCK.

I was actually searching about the old ponies, but then I found about this new amazingness - first I was all like "WTF?" and then "ooo they made a new one" and then.. after a looooong YouTube visit, my opinion was.. well, just guess it.

"What is your Brony story" by that I mean what lead you to initally to become a Brony

 

My story isn't anything all that special. What happened was I was wasting time as usual just browsing the internet. Alot of times I found myself in youtube and just going through the videos I started seeing cartoon ponies? It was an odity sure but nothing really that odd for youtube after all. The thing was they started coming up more and more frequently so I finaly said why not, and clicked on one.

 

It wasn't like I was instantly "Bronified" after watching a three second clip watching a horse going *squee* but it was enough to give me a chuckle and keep me interested to I checked out other videos.

 

This went on for awhile I'd say at least a few months before my curiosity finally got the better of me and I just had to find out what was so interesting about these ponies, all of which I already knew the names of the mane 6 before even watching the show (and Derpy, especially Derpy).

 

I eventually track down the first episode and get to watching, seeing as it ends with "To be contined" I had to watch the second one, and the third, and before I knew it I had gone through every single episode released to this date before it finally dawned on me that I had just watched the THAT many episodes.

 

And so I came to the realisation of my Bronyhood and promptly freaked out a little, I was seriously into cartoon ponies, it lasted for a bit but it passed and here I am.

I started watching MLP after being intrigued by just why so many people liked it.

Watched the first 2 episodes and thought it was ok (most agree the first 2 episodes are to be honest not a great entry point).

But one day i was feeling kind of down and had lots of free time, ending up watching all the episodes and getting addicted!

Wish I had an interesting story but to be brutally honest.. I just began watching the show from the moment it first aired. I didn't even realize there were other people who liked the show until January of last year.

I was on the official Minecraft Forums for a while, not posting much but lurking a lot. One day a well known poster showed up with a new avatar:

 

A lot of people started judging him immediately, saying things like "your opinion isn't valid because of that profile picture." Others started joining the brony movement however, and many people on different forums now accept it and think nothing of a member having a pony picture. That was the first I had ever heard of the show, and thought it was pretty weird that grown adults could find it entertaining.

 

A few weeks later I decided to log in to a very, very old Youtube account that had been inactive for a long time. In my subscriptions box was a old (but unseen on the account) "youtube poop" video, a mashup of scenes from different sources with sentence mixing and editing for those who don't know. In this video were many references to ponies, and i found them to be quite hilarious and fun looking even though their speech and movements had been changed. One of the related videos in the sidebar was Party Of One, and the thumbnal really grabbed my attention because of the weird expression on Applejack's face.

 

I decided to watch it and was completely surprised. Everything about this show was awesome: the voice acting, the animation, the jokes, the character distinction, and the subtle morals. I watched the first season and have been a proud brony ever since.

One boring day in October nothing special happened.

 

Then I noticed how My Little Pony is getting a strange amount of attention. I look up a few things on it and then I download Season 1.

After MUCH hesitation I start to watch the first episode.

 

I didn't know what to think. It was a girly show though that wasn't what bothered me at all. What bothered me is that IT WAS GOOD!

A show that is made to be a cheap marketing tool to sell Pony figurines and toys. But... now it's not cheap, its quality now!

 

I never thought I could live in a world where I look at Hasbro and think Transformers crap and MLP amazing!

Its just... so opposite!

 

Eventually I watched a few more episodes and finally came to terms with what was in front of me!

 

Then I joined here and made friends, but you know the rest from there!
