Just had a pretty cool idea of how the plot should have gone, dunno if anyone else has thought of it yet.

The CMC should have been the ones to save the day. They don't have cutie marks to steal, so they can't really be affected by Starlight.

AND IN THE END THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN HOW THEY GOT THEIR CUTIE MARKS

This was definitely a good episode, but it could have easily passed as a regular episode. The song was good but the song at the end of season 4 would fit better because it is actually about how their differences made them special. It was good, after the season 4 finale it just couldn't compare. Starlight Shimmer was a good antagonist, and it did a good job introducing the idea of the Cutie Map. I like how it had shown how their special talents are the only way to catch Starlight Shimmer. It had a good moral and was all in all a good episode. An improvement that I can think of is if Starlight got rid of her own Cutie Mark and took Twilight's so she could rule everypony.

I re watched the episode and noticed that room the Mane 6 were locked in had no food and wondered if Starlight starves ponies into giving in? Just a dark thought that crossed my mind.

The room had hay and water.

Out the window? Wouldn't they be able to escape out the window if they were able to take a crap out the window? It looks big enough.

Yeah I realized that after posting my pervious comment.

Oh ya... So wheres the bathroom :yay:

I noticed Starlight's house had a second floor(I think it was a 2nd floor since Fluttershy flew higher to see Starlight near her bed when her cutie mark makeup got wet) So since all of the houses are "equal" maybe the toilet is upstairs somewhere or in the basement like in the cupcake cafe. I was concerned when I saw no toilet in there too.

I meant pick the waste up and toss it out the window.

That house is different. It's clearly meant to be used as a cell to "reeducate" those that fall out of line of Starlight's regime. It's meant to break their will, not to be comfortable. They sleep on the floor, have only those books with nothing but = to read. The speaker saying over and over how they are to submit, hay and water to eat and drink only (kind of like a bread and water only for prisoners in our world), and of course no bathrom or other facility.

And also a single clock so the only thing to do is watch the time pass, slowly, and posters with more = signs...

Yes that particular house is not a house. Is a holding cell to reeducate.

Is it just me, or did Twilight sound like the Twilight from FiW when she was talking about how Meadowbrook only had eight magical items? (Or something like that.)

It's probably just me.

Nooo. That's definitely not just you.

In a way this episode portrays bronies. If you think about it, anyone who is difference is looked down upon. Society tries to assimilate everyone to make the world "better." These ponies who are different are like the bronies. When the ponies accept that they are different and that isn't a bad thing is like when a brony accepts that they like MLP. When they use their special talents, it is like how bronies use their own skills to add to the fandom by making new products.

It really doesn't. Nobody here is different or special for liking MLP because there are evidently tons of people just like you in that regard. It's a show. We like it. That's great and all but nobody's a special snowflake for it. And certainly, nobody here is oppressed by a regime or in a war with society over it. Good lord.

I was kinda iffy going into the episode myself. Been a long time since season four so I thought maybe the enjoyment had passed. (Also I've gotten really into Game of Thrones so I thought the lack of brutal character deaths might bore me now.) My DVR for some reason skipped the two-parter and recorded the third episode as if it was the first but luckily I noticed the error and caught up with the premiere afterward. Turned out to be a really good episode. :D

But.

It needed.

So much.

More Luna.

And Discord.

Yes It was a great start!!! B) I think this might be my favorite season opener/finale! I never thought mlp could so cleverly tackle this kind of topic. ^_^

As for the stallions, their cuts were supposed to be the same, since they all want to be Equal. Many Dictatorship, Marxist, and other controlling/authoritarian governments in the real world have a list of "recommended" or "preferred" hairstyles which they want everyone to conform to, such as in North Korea.

If you look closely, the mares also have simliar haircuts, though they have about 2 or 3 different styles still, all of them are very reserved/boring-ish (neither of those are the right words, but i cant find one that accurately to describes them.) :okiedokielokie: But you are right in that all the stallions (except possible double diamond and party favor) had the typical stallion model, but again, I believe this was to emphasize the sameness and forced equality.

I agree that this episode needs more Luna and Discord, but as for the prior part I have to disagree. It is true that all it means to be a brony is to enjoy MLP, which doesn't mean that we are in any way special, but we are definitely different.

Being different isn't a bad thing. Studies of thousands of bronies show that the following facts are true. Bronies tend to have higher rates being accepting of new things. We also have a higher rate of people who are either attending school beyond high school, or having already surpassed a high school education than others. We also tend to have a more positive outlook than others. That shows that we are different, but in ways that end up shaping who we are.

When you refer to none of us being special, everyone, whether brony or not, has something that makes us special. When I say, "special talents," I simply mean the individual things that we are good at. For example, Black Gryph0n has a special talent of music. That's not to say that a musician who isn't a brony doesn't have a special talent of music, it is instead saying that they both have that special talent for music. Like Twilight Sparkle once said, "Each one of us had something special, that makes us different, that makes us rare."

Finally, it is true that nobody is oppressed by a regime, or in a war with society, but that doesn't change the fact that many bronies are bullied for liking MLP, and many people hate that people like it (The Anti-Brony Brotherhood for example). They may not be in war over it, but words can have a large impact on some one. If people admonished you for liking MLP, who is to say that you don't feel oppressed, or at war. In a sense wars actually have been fought for bronies. The Glorious Revolution was fought so that the people of England would have certain rights, such as freedom of speech, allowing them to have their own opinions on things.

Starlight Glimmer's design reminds me a lot of Aria Blaze.

After Season 4 finale being so good, I've lowered expectations for this. A calm start is needed.

Yes... maybe Starlight Glimmer be Aria Blaze disguised to get a revenge against Twilight... She really looks like a lot with Aria !

Cool start to the new season. Starlight will be back for revenge.

Cutie marks represent everypony's talents so ponies with = cutie marks are talented at being equal. Hence, no countryisms or fashion sense. I find it ironic that equal ponies were crazy happy but Pinkie's happiness was limited by the = mark.

I'm in agreement with the majority, I believe Starlight will have to make another appearance, either as a recurring villain or as a major return at the end of the season -- which, if they do the latter, would be pretty cool. I'd love to see the lengths Starlight would go to accomplish her ultimate goal.

I've made some posts about this earlier, but I wanted to wait until there were screenshots on the FiM Wiki to elaborate... and then I kinda forgot. :please:

But has anyone else noticed that the Staff of Sameness bears a resemblance to the Lance of Longinus from Neon Genesis Evangelion?

I put the images in a spoiler tag because their kinda big.
