Did you see Princess Twilight Sparkle coming?

Did I see her specifically destined to become an Alicorn? Not really. Did I see her destined for greatness? Absolutely; right from the beginning. I first noticed it as she got a diadem for the Element of Magic while the others got necklaces for their Elements. I also noticed that the orb that was the dormant Element of Magic was engraved with the shape of her cutie mark while the others were basic geometric shapes. Then of course Celestia outright stated that she saw the signs of Nightmare Moon's return and sent Twilight to deal with her.

 

I first became suspicious of her becoming a Princess with The Crystal Empire episodes, when Celestia repeatedly and cryptically mentioned Twilight having potential to "move on to the next level of her studies". I realized that almost all the other major events ((Nightmare Moon, Discord)) were all some kind of test of Celestia's in order to confirm her suspicions about Twilight. Then of course Hasbro decided to ruin "the Big Reveal" and spoil Twilight's ascension through those toy commercials.

 

Of course, I met Twilicorn with cautious optimism to see how the writers would handle such a fundamental chance to the show's dynamic and aside from a few bumps here and there, I think they handled it well. I believe they did it when they did because Magical Mystery Cure would've been written during season 2's original run or a bit after production. I think they thought the "Rule of 65" could be in play and thus wrote Magical Mystery Cure as the de facto series finale just in case, but left it open for future episodes if Hasbro decided to continue the series.

I didn't think it would happen, but only because I had never seen a children's show where any character went through a drastic personal change before. Most shows are afraid to mess with the status quo and treat change like a toxin.

 

However, I'll admit it was pretty obvious. Her cutie mark is a celestial body, she's named after the time between night and day, her element is a crown, and as someone I heard once (though I can't for the life of me remember who) put it, "Why did you think Celestia took Twilight on as her personal student? For funsies?"

 

So it was obvious according to the canon, but out of left field according to media convention, and honestly, that's a big part of what makes it so great. Even if it hasn't always been perfect, at least the writers of FiM weren't too petrified of rocking the boat to try something new.

Well, I did right from episode 1, mainly because I started watching the show during season 4  so all fandom stuff I saw showed her as an alicorn. Yeah, not really surprising she became a princess for me

I came late and it was spoiled for me before I got to Magical Mystery Cure. But no, I really saw Celestia and Luna as being gods of Equestria and I didn't predict Twilight's apotheosis at any point in time.

Honestly no I didn't see it coming  mostly for the reason that they had a balance cast (2 of each races/tribes) and the idea was about a group of six friends so one being elevated seemed out of place to me.  Also the idea that Alicorns were created and not born wasn't established so I had no idea it could happen.

For financial reasons, shows make most of their money in syndication & it is easier to sell in packages of 65 episodes.  IMO, Magical Mystery Cure was supposed to be the series finale.  Hasbro decided to go w Season 4+ too late to change the plot. (Don't get me wrong, I'm VERY glad they did, I just wish they had done so earlier)

 

I did see something like this coming for the series finale & think (to some extent) they shot themselves in the foot by not waiting until then.  Still, they haven't "jumped the shark" yet, so there is hope for Season 5.

I did. She's the main protagonist of the series and Celestia's personal student. She's also the one who commands the 'trigger' of the Elements of Harmony. I would've been very surprised if she hadn't become a princess.

I already saw it coming, but that's only because I became a Brony just last year, and I found out that Princess Twilight Sparkle was a thing, thanks to the power of Google. Knew it before I even got the time to watch Magical Mystery Cure.

I wasn't expecting it, because the perception I had of Twilight was of a resourceful bookworm who did her best with the resources at her disposal and did her best with how she was. So I was disappointed with the surprise..

Since I only started watching from MMC I can't say I saw it coming, since I wasn't watching, but I totally believe her elevation was always in the cards. It's simply a matter of how it was handled. Needles to say I've always been on the Princesss Twilight bandwagon.

I wasn't expecting at first but looking back, it was rather obvious. I find it funny still that there is a fan comic that foreshadows this event. I don't know if it intentional or on accident, but damn is it a good comic. I have a video here where it's read and the emotion in it is even better conveyed. So if you are prone to crying easily, this video will be one of those that tears you up rather easily.

Yes.

 

If it did not happen in Season 3, it would have happened eventually as there is only so much they can do with her as a student before things start to grow stale.

 

One could see it coming from a mile away given all the early merchandise screenshots, and other leaks.

 

It was pretty shrewd on the show's part to not shoehorn her into such a role for the first several seasons as they kept her whole magical studies rather vague.

I honestly did not, in fact when the rumors started to fly(heh) around I didn't want to believe it.

I've been okay with it for ages now though, everything turned out extremely well with plotline in the end imo.
