Starlight Glimmer wanted everypony to think she gave up her cutie mark, too, so she could have just found a staff and just used it so everyone thinks the staff took their cutie marks instead of her. Perhaps she was interested in that topic and just used that. 

True, but wouldn't that also be consistent with her line about "it is just something I found in the desert" being an effort to downplay the importance of what it is? The question though is if the staff really is just an ordinary staff than exactly how was Starlight able to take away other ponies cutie marks? Of course she had to hide her cutie mark in order to keep up the facade and avoid being exposed as a hypocrite.

Yeah, I don't think that staff was anything special. But I do think we'll be seeing the real 8 items in season 6.

We have to wait over a year to see those other 8 items! Why can't it be like the keys from season 4 where the mane six just happen to find these artifacts without really trying. I mean it's not like the Mane Six deliberately searched for the keys when they got them.

It's possible then the main plot behind this new season would be of a treasure-hunting nature; the Mane Six seeking out these artifacts.

Let's see here. She claimed there were nine enchanted weapons, but there's actually eight, but still she seems to know something about them. She wanted the power of the mane sixes cutie marks, especially Twilights, and she got away at the end. The cutie marks may serve as ultimate power for these weapons and all weapons together may do who knows what.

I'm betting that she had no interest in creating a social movement in the first place, but rather just wanted to fill up that wall of marks and turn it into some kind of supreme cutie mark for herself, because she got picked on when she was little for having an inferior mark.

 

Characters with such philosofies tend to have dark past behind them, and we can be sure well find out eventually

Yes, i said "once she returns." Mark my words, we haven't seen the last of that mare.

For me, it's quite surreal to know that past villains such as Chrysalis and Tirek have failed to scare me despite their appearance and general threat level, but I suppose it's because their backgrounds were already known, and as a result their fear factor was minimized. However, this Starlight Glimmer person actually terrifies me. This is the first time a cartoon character, particularly one from My Little Pony, has ever scared me. There's no doubt in my mind; she will return with a vengeance, incensed by the Mane 6 for exposing her cover and ending her control of the village. Maybe the caves lead outside of Equestria. Maybe they lead into Queen Chrysalis' territory. Maybe a drone catches her and brings her to its queen. Maybe they team up and forge a plan to take down Princess Twilight.

 

Just a thought.

Remember the artifact and how twilight reacted on how it was a ninth artifact? well maybe there are hidden artifacts and starlight shimmer and other artifacts will be a big part of the plot this season? :3 but who knows, they basically just gave a villain with unknown plans run free.

I am SO happy she got away! It's a fresh turn of events from villains being defeated by magical mcguffins, and I want to see how they play with her. Is she the main villain? Is she a pawn for an even greater puppet-master?

THE CAVES! DUN DUN DUN!!!!! But wherever she went, she's coming back. I've seen this happen on a ton of shows. The villain always gets away then comes back later bigger, better and stronger only to be beaten down again.

Starlight Glimmer is most definitely now a fugitive from justice probably about to be featured on the next episode of "Equestria's Most Wanted".

 

She has been hinted to return in a future episode. With the way the show has been going, most open endings have been delivered upon, and characters with open-ended arcs have been returned.

 

Ideally, I would want a lot of backstory in her return episode, and I'd like for it to focus equally on the search for her and what she's doing now. The Mane 6 would effectively add "detective" to their skills arsenal as they retrace Starlight's steps and recreate her rise to power in an attempt to track her down. Additionally, capitalizing on the dystopian theme of "The Cutie Map", I would want the theme of said episode to be laden with references to classics of another genre; film noir and detective fiction.

 

Starlight Glimmer, overall, has a lot of potential in future appearances given the balance between what we already know about her and what we don't. I definitely hope we get to see her again.
