I was born in 97 so I never was around during the 80's but there are some highlights I have from that decade. There are a few favorite cartoons from that era like DuckTales and New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. I also find 80's music some of the best music I've ever heard. I have a few favorite NES games like Popeye, Mario 3, Kirby's Adventure, Zelda, and Mother. And I usually don't like live action movies but the 80's had a lot of live action films I liked such as Ghostbusters, ET, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Breakfast Club, Back to the Future, and Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Also the late 80's had one of my favorite animated films of all time, The Little Mermaid.

I was born in '88, but I grew up with everything from the 60's-80's for most of my childhood. Plus the area I grew up in didn't progress as quickly as others, so I can only properly half-claim nostalgia as these were part of my childhood... just not in the same year. : P

We need a nostalgia thread. <3

Can you belive there was once a time where people didn't know about Mario?

The 80s had some good rock.

The FIM universe had an 80s too.

Some 80s hits from one of my favorite bands:

All my life needed was a sense of someplace to go. I don't believe that one should devote his life to morbid self-attention. I believe that someone should become a person like other people.

Here are my two favorite 80s cartoons:

And don't forget My Neighbor Totoro and Kiki's Delivery Service since they were both from the 80s.

Wild Style was awesome.

I was born in 93' so, I'm not a 80s kid (more of a 90s-00s kid tbh) but I do remember some shows that started in the 80s and went through the 90s like Full House, (I believe Fresh Prince of Bel Air did), Family Matters, etc.

I really love Punky Brewster and Care Bears though, sooooo good....... xD

Born in '89 but a lot of what I remember about the 80s were from reruns of some of my favorite cartoons. I grew up with Inspector Gadget, Care Bears, Dennis the Menace, Garfield and Friends and The Super Mario Bros. Super Show to name a few.

Born in the year that Elvis died & Star Wars first came to theaters (1977), I grew up in the heart of the 1980's.  Allow me to put forth to you ponies a few things about this particular time in history, at least as far as I learned:

1: No, not EVERYONE had day-glo clothing or DEVO hats.  I had a pair of parachute pants, but mostly because they had TONS of pockets.  In fact, I'd say that true 80's fashion was somewhat of a cross between 90's grunge & 70's casual, without the huge collars.  Nearly everyone DID have their hair fluffed & teased, though - except me; I got lucky.

2: Despite what 80's movies seem to imply, most folks didn't use catch-phrases like "gnarly", "radical" or "bodacious"... except for the skateboarders.  They did.  A lot.

3: The 1980's were the greatest time to watch cartoons.  Okay, looking back on the quality of those 'toons, it might not seem like it but it was the perfect point in time - Saturday morning belonged to children's television COMPLETELY.  Many of the franchises you know & love today either started in the 80's, or wouldn't have existed if it weren't for the 80's.  Yeah, they may have glutted the market with 'toons, but OH WHAT A FEAST!

4: Say whatever you want about 80's music, but it was right on the line between the protest songs of the 60's & 70's and the angst & pathos of the 90's.  80's music had EGO... it had BALLS... it was enjoyable regardless of what you liked.  Heck, the 80's spawned Metallica... the GOOD Metallica!  Hair metal was electric, old school hip-hop was funky fresh, and pop was... well, it was pop, but it felt WONDERFUL to immerse yourself in the sound of the 80's.

5: MTV showed music videos... AND NOTHING ELSE.  Yeah, really.  I want THAT MTV, thank you very much.

6: Our movies busted ghosts, raided lost Arks, weirded science, juiced beetles & asked the identity of the person responsible for framing a cartoon rabbit.  80's movies rocked.

7: The era FELT exciting!  You could physically experience each surge of power through every new home computer, every arcade game & every VCR tape.

8: The smell of a new cassette, fresh from it's plastic-wrapped case, is the scent of the 80's.

9: Celebrities in the 80's gave exactly zero f**ks.  They were larger than life; they were iconic; they were amazing.  Michael Jackson was the King Of Pop, in his full glory.  Dee Snider (of Twisted Sister) was UGLY - but his music was the birthplace of true 80's rebellion.  Mr. T pitied no fool, and didn't put up with no jibber-jabber.  Michael J. Fox was just plain awesome.

10: We were the generation that rode the wave of fad.  Other generations had done it & many have done it since; NONE did it better than the 1980's.

Okay, I've said my piece.  From an authentic child of the 80's, I say thank you for your time... and for reviving the memories.

Be excellent to each other.

Wow some ponies around here are psychic. This is the second time today that I came to the forum to start a thread about something and, all of a sudden, there's a thread on the very topic on my mind sitting in the top boards list. Wow.

I was born in 79 so the 80s decade was. my. shit.

I had almost every freaking thing that makes up the 80s. If I didn't have it, my best friend did, and I practically lived at her house. By the mid 90s, eh I was getting over pop culture and getting into 20% cooler stuff by learning to drive, hung out with older kids, left high school half days to attend a vocational program and made friends from bigger and better schools than my own, ya know, stuff like that. Still, I have alot of 90s nostalgia too tho. I didn't stop taking in culture until I was into working full time, sometimes 2 jobs, and I didn't have as much free time.

I have a shit ton of favorites from the 80s decade, be it movies/tv, board/video games, toys, books, etc. The reason I was looking to start a new thread tho, is because, 30 years later, I still can't get over how awesome the intro to Thundercats is. Hands down without a doubt, Thundercats is one of the best cartoon intros I've ever seen. Granted I haven't seen every cartoon intro ever made, and sure, nostalgia plays a huge part, but if you watched after school cartoons in the 80s, you know what I'm talking about. Thundercats was an awesome show at the time and the intro just gives me chills. Even if it's not my absolute favorite cartoon of all time, the intro just can't be beat in my opinion. I'd like to see other people's favorite show intros too if anybody has any.

I like looking at old styles of things, like you can often tell a videos era by its audio and video quality. I find it neat, you can feel the era.

Commercials included.

I was born in 1983 so I don't remember too much. This song by Aqua talks about the good old days of the 80's:

That's a really good song. I liked that.

I wasn't around yet in the '80s but I love the decade anyway. I wear vintage '80s clothes (slightly tweaked) and enjoy a lot of the music and especially the movies. I often think that's the decade I should have been born in. It's just my style. :proud:
