Because I am a Scottish Nationalist and believe that the British State is a corrupt and decaying entity. I believe that my country gets treated with contempt by Westminster and I hate the Conservative and Unionist Party like most of Scotland and do not want them to destroy my country.

Sadly, I would have voted for a socialist candidate, but none were standing in my constituency. I still have grudging respect for the SNP.

But Scotland receives almost 20% more funding per head for healthcare and education. You get free prescriptions and University. As an independent state, Scotland would BECOME the land of austerity, because the collapse of the north sea oil industry and Scotland's lack of income apart from England would mean that it would be an impossibility to maintain the current standard of living.

But it's all OK now. Hopefully, the conservatives will have a shred of decency and block anything the SNP try. They're bloody dangerous, both for Scotland and the rest of the UK.

You don't want Westminster to destroy Scotland?

It's too late, you've already chosen the party to do it.

Heh. Tbh if I was Scottish I'd have gone with them. Don't blame you.

Seems to have some pretty good policies, haven't looked into them enough to know how good they'd be economically, but they seemed to be in a direction I preferred.

Only issue I'd have with them is the risk of leaving the union, but from what I can tell it was more devolution based anyway, rather than a full split.

I'm sort of breaking a personal rule by commenting on this. See normally, I don't like to speak in threads that I have no stake in. For instance if a thread asked for a sport's fan to speak on something I would not post because I'm not a sports guy. So as someone who doesn't live in the U.K., I will not be voting in this election.

However I'm always interested in learning about my friends across the pond and their home and this seems an appropriate thread to ask on.

So could someone offer a brief description of each of the parties? (Non-biased, if it can be helped.)

Sure. Uh huh. Okay.

I disagree with you many levels (pretty much all of them), but I have no interest in debating.

You'd need a foreigner to do that I am afraid. It's a pretty hot topic here.

This should help you. Gives a good outline of the different parties' views and policies.

"Most of them are wealthy and educated." You're talking about India near nepal, pakistan and burma, right? The place where poverty and disease run rampant, all while the richest become richer? I think, mate, that India has a while to go before before they're like that.

Then why did the British decide to rob India? A number of people in England have a condescending attitude and they think they can still go bossing other countries around like they did during colonial times. Perhaps you can't stand the fact that India's economy is booming and will eventually overshadow Britain, all without imperialism and nationalism. It's no wonder why the Scots are fed up with the English. England is no longer the powerful nation it once was and now just tries to insult its former colonies. It's time for the British to get over their colonial hangover.

Pfft. I started writing out a summary when this was posted halfway through. Now I just feel silly for forgetting about it xD

The stupidity of that is why I am currently drinking.

To be fair, you're also Scottish. Also a major factor : P

At this point there's probably not much to argue about. Considering this is pretty much an argument from "Well I don't know about you, but I detest anybody who isn't white. Why don't you?". I suppose you also support segregation of black and white people because they obviously can't be trusted to go near eachother because they're so different.

"Well look, I've never met a muslim in my life, but I've heard they just go about raping people and hating western society. Savages"

Also on

"Counter question: Why do they even need to? Do you have some sort of race mixing fetish or what?"

Because immigration at a decent level substantially improves the economy of a country?

Guess I should probably avoid spamming up this thread, because there's no way its going to end up with anything but a shouting contest, you've ignored half the points I've made and each and every time I've replied its turned into "YEAH, WELL THEY FUCK KIDS DON'T THEY".

So yeah, will leave this. Guess its been off topic for too long anyways xD

You know what? Let's just....wait.

Let's see how the future turns out.

This has nothing to do with what I said. I was talking about the modern India? Not the one that existed two hundred years ago, where the divide between the rich and poor was still very similar, if not even larger. The Empire has no place in this debate. You said that most Indians were rich and educated. And I disagreed on the grounds that it's the complete opposite. I agree India is growing faster than most countries, including the UK. That's what you get with a massive population rise coupled with an industrial revolution. But their education system is not at all able to rival that of the west. And their wealth distribution is far worse that that of the USA.

As several posts before me have said, this is becoming far too off-topic.

@@Sir Cal Stonehoof, To add something to other people comments on the queen, she is like the original perfect celebrity.

Gives a lot of people hope, especially with the current situation in the UK and around the world. It's uplifting :)!

At the same time, its not like normal celebrity, there is no real jealousy because she was born into it, not like we can become that or change it.

He should never have even resigned in the first place imo. The pace at which UKIP has established itself is astonishing, all under Nigel. The Purple surge is real.

Yeah, as much as I disagree with his policies, he's pretty much one of the main reasons UKIP went ahead. Comes off as more honest than the other ones politicians as well.

Get his reasons for wanting to stand down though.

A part of me sort of wishes that Nigel taken a break for the summer and come back in September (As he suggested, and he would have won a leadership contest in September for certain). I think having Suzanne Evans as leader for a short spell would have been great for shaking off all the '-isms' that are constantly thrown at UKIP by the media.

As someone who's been supporting UKIP quietly for a while now it's been really disheartening to be constantly called a rascist, a homophobe, (sort of ironic considering I'm bisexual) and all sorts of other things just because I support a right wing party. It's as if people think that the political spectrum isn't left-to-right, but good-to-evil. At least with the anti-conservative protests in London I have some stuff to fire back with now.

I'm not into politics myself, I'm too young to vote. But if I had the option I would go with Conservative, mainly because David Cameron is the only leader I can tolerate. But that view might change in a couple years when I leave home, where political choices would effect me.

Yeah, some of the stuff being thrown out is a bit over the top >.<

"OH YEAH HALF THE COUNTRY JUST HATES POOR PEOPLE AND SOCIETY HOW COULD THEY"

I get being frustrated but they seem to ignore any other motive. Hell ,I'm pretty sure a lot of poor people voted conservative as well xD

Although I've got to admit I've been guilty of this in the past, after pretty much only seeing constant negative press for the party with some of the nutjobs who join (Who, to the parties credit, are generally instantly fired as soon as they're noticed).

Also out of interest, how good a leader would you say Suzanne would have been? Never really saw much about her before.

She's certainly has less energy than Farage, but then she's also a lot less polarizing. I'm not sure how good of a leader she'd be, but I don't think she'd be as good as Nigel. As a spokesperson she comes across as very capable though.
