Do smileys and writing style make a difference?

Does it make difference how you react or respond to the person if you see message from them in different styles?

Here is same message written in different ways? Would you respond to all of these in same way?

Case 1

Hello it's nice to meet you.

Case 2

Hello =) It's nice to meet you =)

Case 3

Hello =)=)=)! Its nice to meet you =)=)=)=)=)=)=)!

Case 4

=)=)=)=)Hello!! =)=)=)=)=)=)=)=)=) It's Nice To Meet You =)=)=)=)=)=)!!

Case 5

1-4 I'd probably reply the in same way cause I don't really change my way of talking depending on who I talk to, it just matters what I talk about.

For case 5 I'd kindly ask the person to chill out.

But yeah I think emoticons matters quite a lot for me though, if I talk to someone who never use emotes it makes me feel awkward. Too many emotes is just annoying though

sometimes people thing I'm a girl cause I use so many emoticons :/

I associate the use of smileys and exclamations with enthusiasm, so the more of them I see in a comment, the more cheerful I interpret the person to be, and the more likely I am to use a smiley in my response. A message with no additional symbols gives me the impression that the person is reserved.

The first two are okay, but the other three creep me out. I'm not sure if I would even respond to them, because I wouldn't take them seriously.

I think it changes things for most people to an extent, based on wildly stereotypical ideas, but that statement also varies person to person.

EG; I was once texting a radio station because... Iunno, I was young and innocent, or something, and the guy thought I was female because I used a lot of smileys.

Another example; I TEND TO THINK YOU'RE YELLING WHEN YOU DO THIS.

They're just little things, but they alter the way a post is read, and that alters the way it sounds in your head. Something meant as exciting could easily come off as angry, or even hateful.

It's always best to think something through, and very carefully articulate your thoughts as best you can. c:

In your case, ooBrony, you can use all the smileys you want on me, IDC. xD

Though, I would probably say something along the lines of "Hello, it's nice to meet you. c:" (Or =) if you prefer)

For case 1, I'd feel a little uncomfortable... it's hard to tell what mood the person is in, so I feel I'd have to guess what the best response would be, whether I should restrain myself or show some more emotion. Cases 2-4, I feel a lot more comfortable since it's obvious what the other person is feeling, so I know how to approach them and can reply as enthusiastically as I wish. With case 5, they may be going a little overboard, but I wouldn't mind at all. x3

Too many smilies and I probably try to distance myself, but I don't appreciate formal talk when I'm in casual conversation, which is why I usually refrain from the use of full stops, it has a different implication

Take it that this is the first message you send to someone in a day or so

How are you?

I'm fine.

How are you?

I'm fine :)

Depending on their mannerisms, of course, this can change, but for me the first seems like a lie

I'd probably respond to you in the same way as the other cases, but because of the way you right your sentences I'm able to tell your mood and what kind of person you are. *whisper*: Which is a great one. I don't know if you've gone as far as the 5th case before, but that might intimidate new people you meet and scare them away. It's best to use the first two cases for new people, but if you're talking to people who are your long time friends I'd say go for cases 2-4 and maybe even 5 (only if you're extremely hyped though).
