general What does Valentine's Day mean to you?

A day most likely taken to buy overpriced, industrialized merchandise for a reason some couples seem take as trivial most of the time.

Honestly, if you truly love and respect your partner, you don't need to wait to tell that to them once a year. Nowadays it's more about the merchandise.

...At least it gives me an excuse to leave work early.

well i agree with the fact that you should souldn'ent say you love your lover only on valentinse day but it does suck for the ones that are #foreveralone

It means hearts, and red, and pink, and flowers, and massive amounts of chocolate being available, and sending those little kids cartoon valentines to everyone, and covering things with glitter, and making everything look pretty and telling people how much you appreciate them. :)

Mostly, it's a day on which many of my friends are unavailable.  I guess you could say it's an annual virtually guaranteed day to myself, and that ain't bad.

Always look on the bright side of life...

Been the same since I was born: dad's birthday. This year will be the first time where I'm not close enough by to celebrate with him, so I'm dreading February 14th for the first time in my life. I miss my daddy.

I realize that as a married woman, it's sad that I think of my dad of Valintines day, instead of my husband.

I see it as another holiday that is used for corporations to make a ton of money. I don't need a specific day to express my love to my boyfriend, nor do I need a specific day to buy him something. I will do that whenever I please.

For me, I know it's a day meant for lovers and couples. When I was in early to late school, it just meant you got a funny card with some candy and everyone got something too. Nowadays, it's focused more on lovers and couples and the lone wolves get to sit alone in the cold thinking how much they'd like to join and enjoy this day too. At the same time despising the accursed day what with everyone being happy and in love and sharing sweets in the theme of romance.

However, shouldn't you tell your special somebody, neigh, express your feelings to them every day of the year instead of one day set aside to show them how you feel...

I am also reminded of a story of how the day came to be. Of a man sentenced to die but before he was executed, he'd exchange love letters to his beloved on the outside and that's where the term valentines, thus the day became "Valentine's Day" or "St. Valentine's Day".

This year it's the day AMC's The Walking Dead comes back to us all with a brand new season. Overall it should be a nice Valentine's Day night, for everyone. Not just the lovers.

  ... Nothing much else though.

It means nothing to me. Valentine's Day is just another monetized holiday for selling candies, flowers, jewelry etc. You can tell someone that you love them any day of the week. And you can give chocolates any day of the week. In my opinion, it makes it more special when you randomly appreciate someone than simply when it's expected of you to do so.

It's a day where people openly flaunt their luck in finding special company or whatever. For many of us, it's the same old disgust against the materialism and the emotional inequality built up by the glorification of love on a national consciousness. It's either that or nothing in the end.

Pretending to buy chocolates for a partner so I don't look greedy AF when I get them x)

Apart from that since I'm single at the moment it doesn't mean anything to me, doesn't make me feel bad or doesn't make me feel good and really it is just a commercial stunt for companies to make money, I thought that when I was in a relationship so I'm not being bitter.

Though I'm not sure which I dislike more, people who rub being in a relationship on Valentines day in peoples faces, people who make zero effort for their SO on that day or people who sit in their house twenty four seven saying things like ''Why does no one pick the nice guy''

Fucking this. ^

But no, my opinion on Valentines Day is that it's not much more than companies trying to make money, as Jest said here.

If people want to celebrate it, that's totally up to them. But for me? Na. Not my thing.

Should at least appreciate what they did for you at the time. I agree that Valentines is pointless, but still.

But, everyone to their own, I guess.
