(I've left starlight off for now as its a bit soon in the season to gauge her spot in the group. Similarly, Sunset is an EQG character not FIM so I left her off)

My current favorite is Twilight, with Fluttershy closely behind in 2nd place. Originally Fluttershy was my favorite, as I seem to connect with her the most. My least favorite then was Applejack and that hasn't changed. Applejack isn't a bad character, but I really don't connect with her at all.

I disliked Pinkie the most in the early days of me watching the show (which didn't start till S3, so I saw everything in S1 and S2 out of order) because she didn't have any depth so the personality trait that defined her the most for me was her lack of giving ponies their "personal space". Something I find very annoying IRL. It wasn't until S4 that I felt she was well-rounded enough to stop feeling that way.

 

I liked Twilight best early on because she was the most relatable to me. Dorky nerd who spends all their time reading about science and tech and pretty much eschewing any personal relationships (aside from Spike) before being transplanted to Ponyville.

 

Now, I have to rate Fluttershy at the bottom, but only because they haven't done much with her character - it's mostly static since the end of S2, aside from the S5 Nightmare Night ep. Note that I didn't say "dislike" - I like Fluttershy a lot! But trying to rate the Mane 6 these days is like trying to pick a favorite and least favorite flavor of ice cream - they're all really good!

 

Favorite now goes to Rainbow, she's still giving off an afterglow from the awesome "Testing, Testing, 1,2,3", and she has proven herself to be more than a one-note "win at all costs" character.

Rainbow Dash was my favorite mostly because she reminds me of my childhood hero, Sonic the Hedgehog. And while I still like her as a character, she takes a backseat to Twilight, since Twilight is the one I find I can relate to the most (at least up until season 5).

 

I originally disliked Pinkie Pie because I just didn't find her funny. That, and the fact that I stumbled into things like Cupcakes and Smile HD, which really soured my opinion of her. Just to clarify, I was around 11 or 12 at this point, and creepypasta in general was pretty new to me, as my Internet activity was heavily monitored (and I'm a pansy that hates horror).

 

Now, AJ is my least favorite, simply because the country cowgirl archetype really annoys me. I don't dislike Applejack, but still... she's just kinda there.

Originally, Fluttershy was my favourite of the Mane 6, while AJ was my least favourite. Around the time, Fluttershy was the most relatable character in the show for me.

 

Now, Rainbow is my favourite, while AJ is still my least favourite. I don't hate AJ at all, but she hasn't done much that has really impressed me. Hopefully she'll do something in Season 6 that'll win me over, though.

Well, the current "favorites" ratio is about what I'd expect: Pinkie, RD and twilight all seem to be about equal in merchandising and popularity, so it seems to be about what i'd expect.

What I AM surprised by is how AJ is doing so well in the "least liked". Like, I LIKE applejack and all, but everything I've heard and seen seems to indicate that she's the least popular :/ (Twilight being so high doesn't surprise me though since she's very divisive and hit/miss, with alot of likes but also alot of dislikes)

Should I base this off first impressions or what? 'Cause I joined the fandom at about early-mid season 5 (even though I started from the pilot, I kinda binge watched 3-7 EPs a day 'till I caught up)

 

Anyhows, just starting off (and progressing) I didn't like RD due to the whole "narcissism" thing, so there's my least fav for "then"

 

And nows, my least favorite is Rarity, mainly because of how whiney and uptight she is, but with "the gift of Maud pie" I'm liking her a bit more

 

My old favorite was Twi because... She got the most character development due to screen time due to her being the main character.... (Not my best reason)

Well, I originally liked Fluttershy the best for two reasons--I identify strongly with her timid nature and her anxiety, and Filli Vanili was the second episode I saw, and the episode that made me a brony, so there was a sort of sentimental factor.  I really didn't have a least favorite, and I still don't.  If I had to pick, I guess in the early days I found AJ a bit less interesting than the rest.  But really, I love them all pretty much equally.  These days, I tend to favor Rarity a bit because I think her development and characterization has been the best throughout the show.  I love how professional and career driven she is.  Depending on how I feel on a given day, sometimes Rainbow is my favorite.  I love her confidence, and I wish I could be like her.  I've always identified strongly with Twi as well.  And I often find AJ the most attractive.  I dunno....I guess if I had to pick a least favorite, it would probably be Pinkie.  (It's like trying to pick a least favorite LOTR movie, or a least favorite God of War game.  It's impossible.)  But the fact is, I think Pinkie's development and characterization has suffered the most through the series.  While there have been some really great moments in recent times (Pinkie Apple Pie, as one example), I feel like in many ways she has lost the eccentric brilliance she had in the first couple of seasons.  I was always afraid the writers would forget that that's how she was meant to be, and they would fall into the trap of just making her immature comic relief.  I feel like that's what has happened in a lot of ways.  I still love her, though.  I love all of them.  But, you know, if I have to pick, I'd say that Pinkie's development has suffered the most, while Rarity's has been the best.  Rarity used to seem more superficial, and now she seems more mature and professional.  Pinkie used to be very thoughtful and brilliant in her own offbeat way, and now she seems a bit less mature.

Before, I liked Rainbow, (Like most everybody lol) mainly because it seemed like she couldn't lose. I didn't like Rarity mainly because she just struck me as the type who couldn't handle herself in the woods. It's always been the same thing with Rarity, people dislike her for basically nothing more than being the feminine member of the group and see a character that she isn't even in her.

Im more surprised Rainbow is getting so few "least favorite" votes so far, I see people vocally disliking her all the time.

Anyway I don't know, I guess Rainbow was my first favorite because she just seemed "cool" looking back im not really sure why since she's kinda not that impressive in S1, my least favorite at first I don't even know, my least favorite NOW though is easily Fluttershy, Fluttershy is basically just a giant waste most of the time and has basically been stalled for years now, can someone really add me what Fluttershy even adds most of the time these days? My current favorite is by far Rarity, she's easily the best written character. Honestly this is a surprisingly weak performance by Rarity so far, she usually does signifiicantly better, I guess her fanbase is too busy circlejerking or something to visit us right now.

Going into the show, I really thought I wouldn't like Rarity. I also wasn't too keen on her characterization in early season 1 for that matter. As the show progressed however she became one of my favorites. I love how diverse her character is and the kind of dynamic she has with the other characters. 

 

Rainbow on the other hand has kind of slid down the roster a couple pegs over the seasons. I like her don't get me wrong, and I think she has plenty of potential as a character. I also think they've kind of been playing her safe lately, and that's made her rather uninteresting. Where did her drive go? Where is her passion? I'm not asking for her to be a jerk like she was in season one, she's developed beyond that, but lately she hasn't had much of anything, especially in season 5. I'm looking for some interesting plots for her this season.

-Maybe she finds another book series she likes and she feels like she's cheating on the Daring do books, that'd be funny!

-Maybe she wants to actually WRITE a story like her idol?

-Does she REALLY want to go to the wonderbolts at this point when they've been shown to be total ass-hats on a number of occasions? 

 

The one pony that has stayed my favorite throughout my time as a brony would have to be Pinkie Pie. She was the first character I ever saw in a fanwork (The infamous Cupcakes) and her smile song really made me love her character. She has so many interesting aspects to her character, and her family is a wealth of fanfic material waiting to happen. She's pretty much been cemented as my fave from the very beginning.

See that's the problem with polls like this, generally you have to answer every question to vote, but sometimes one of the questions just doesn't apply to someone.

Okay basically lets go over the RESULTS SO FAR.

Twilight, Rarity, Pinkie and Rainbow all seem to obviously have the largest fanbases.... but Pinkie has the least amount of people who DISLIKE her so I guess right now she's winning "most popular" in this poll.

 

Applejack is unfortunately doing badly in both halves of the poll. Sad since she's my second favorite.

 

I still have to give Rarity's result as the most impressive simply since it's such a large turnaround from the initial impressions for people.

Fluttershy has been my favorite all along but Pinkie has nearly caught her coming from the 2nd least favorite to 2nd favorite. Overall I like all the characters more than I did in the begining actually.

Rainbow was my least favorite but now it is Applejack since she kind of is there like someone in this thread said.

Nothing much has changed since I started watching. Fluttershy was my least favorite then and she still is now, and Twilight was the reason I began to like the show, and even now she's one of my favorites. My other two favorites would be Rainbow Dash and Sunset Shimmer...and maybe Starlight will become one of them as well.

WHAT WE'VE LEARNED SO FAR: Everyone expect Applejack has a pretty large fanbase these days it seems, Applejack is unfortunately the clear least popular character. Also no one hates Pinkie.

Rarity, Applejack and Rainbow being in a tight race for most people naming them as their least favorite was super predictable.
