Why did a certain Brony Youtuber I'm subscribed to had to review and post a video of it online today BEFORE it officially premieres here in America? Because I'm subscribed to them, I received their video in my mailbox and its thumbnail spoiled the episode more than the synopsis was keeping vague!

You know, as much as I want to erase this fast-becoming-Old-Shame post, I still like how I gather all the Mane 7 to present "NO SPOILERS" and each of the 6 seasons, so I'm keeping it!

Welp, that was a good finale overall.

 

 

Glad Chrysalis wasn't redeemed; the Changelings transforming into something you'd see from the Tinkerbell movies was hilarious and forced enough.

I just saw the livestream and it was awesome. Part two was better than part one.

 

 

The way the changelings all changed I had to rofl, loved Discord's humor, Loved some of the Chrysalis moments, Trixie was nifty, overall a great episode, and it had some great whats the word, like some anticipation/tension, build up? Idk what its called, pre-climax? Google says 'rising action' but idk if thats the precise word, oh well. Also now all Trixie needs for her performances is some of Vinyl's music, I thought this through before, it'd be spectacular, and I HOPE TO FAUST that they get MULTIPLE get togethers in next season. Its just too good if they did, and might be the whole point of this season if you think about it! Looking forward to next season (though this one didn't end yet technically lol)

So Part 2 just ended, and this is what I think of it.

 

Awesome! I really like how the Changelings actually changed their appearance by accepting friendship into their lives (with Chrysalis deeply refusing that friendship), and while that means the old mean Changelings are no more, we got to see a new species of sorts come to be with one evil Changeling still out there.

When Starlight came up to Chrysalis, for a moment I thought she might accept it and I hoped she wouldn't, and boy was I glad that she slapped away Starlight's hoof and remained her evil self. It just wouldn't be the same with Chrysalis being good, and I'm so deeply relieved that she turned out to be too stubborn to change. And now, she even reminds me of one particular evil wizard a bit, and I'm even picturing this story lol: 

"Long, long ago, just outside of Equestria, there was a friendly kingdom where shapeshifting creatures lived. They called themselves the Changelings. They were good."

"Then, there was Chrysalis, an evil Changeling. She was bad."

Also, her entrance when "Starlight" entered the throne room. Oh my god, her limbs. I swear to Celestia she has no bones!

Other than that, I'm glad they managed to bring back Chrysalis for this episode, the fact that Starlight was the star of the story, and even the return of Discord and Trixie for the finale.  

 

Also, the fact that Chryalis is still on the run is just opening up new stories.  Maybe we'll see her team up with King Sombra and Lord Tirek in Season 7.  Please let this happen Hasbro.  I wanna see a Terrible Trio in the 7th Season or later.

+++ THE GRRRREAT AND POWERFUL TRIXIE

+++ Chrysalis is the best god damn villain. This is an objective fact.

+++ FUCK YOUR REFORMATION! MWAHAHAHA (part of the above I suppose)

+++ The clutzy draconequus

+++ The changelings in general

+++ Spades of humour! YES!

++ Great set-up in the first part, it was tense and exciting

++ Great character interactions

++ Magic users have to solve problems withhout magic! Yes!

++ The visuals and the setting! Esp. the hive!

++ Glimmy was alright, but her development in this episode was pretty fantastic

++ The animation in general

++ Princess Luna was pretty great

++ Discord and Fluttershy are good friends. Friends.

+ Thorax was cute I guess

+ Part 2 was good before the ending

+ Cute and funny faces

 

BAD things:

- No Sunburst (only mentioned)

- No Ember or dragons

- Glimmy and Trixie saw the changed mane 6 communicate with Chrysalis because... coincidence? No, lazy writing.

- The darkstone throne felt like a cheap ass-pull. A cool ass-pull, though

-- No song?!

-- The reformation of the changelings was too fast and easy

-- The ending in general left a bad taste in my mouth

-- The new changeling designs look... weird.

-- How was everyone captured again? You gonna explain that, or...

--- No Spike! What the hell? He should've been in the B-team!

--- Twilight did not talk to Starlight at the end, aside from asking "dafuq happened fam". Disapponting and odd. Why didn't they wrap up Starlight's sparse arc properly?

 

So, I liked it. I think that Best Night Ever was a better finale and Return of Harmony a better two-parter, but this one was better than all the other ones. Really happy with this.

I can honestly say, I really hope Twilight and friends save the day again. I don't know about you, but I'm used to Twilight saving the day.

But at the same time, I'm fine with Starlight getting some development. She needed the development.

 I totally called Thorax becoming their new leader, didn't expect them to change like that though. I was hoping to see Chrysallis change too but I guess they want to use her in future episodes. Such a great ending to a great episode, the jokes and the cast were on point.

It didn't feel like a fan fiction. I had minute issues, but the focus of this episode was Starlight, Trixie and Discord...Thorax too. I was just happy to see Chrysalis again and she was kept in character and we got to explore changeling culture.

To Quote myself from Is Thorax shippable?

 

Where do we ever see the Changelings actually suck the love out of their victims other than the Queen. I think the Changelings can feed off love without causing harm if the love and care is mutual.

It's like a box of cookies representing love. Queen Chrysalis selfishly wants the "cookies" for herself and her species that she just Steals the love away, which would cause the ponies to be harmed in the long run.

But with Thorax following the ponies' example of Sharing the "Cookies" of love, both the Changeling and pony benefit.

Mutual love and respect shared between 2 good friends is much stronger than selfish, one-sided, stolen love.

I'm sure there must be other fans who've come to the same conclusion as I have in the years since the Changelings' debut.

To answer the OP: Yes, Thorax is shipable as long as the love is shared, not stolen.

 

It turns out I was right! Mutual love shared between friends is much stronger than selfish, stolen love.

 

To satirize a line from Matrix Revolutions, "Changelings need love like everything does!"

We also know that they can't mimic the abilities of those they impersonate.

Is that true? Chrysalis was doing a good job at mimicking Cadance's magic and with their wings I would think mimicking pegasi wouldn't be an issue either?

 

 

As for the second part...

 

Everything was practically perfect until the very end. Seriously, I literally blinked and the next moment the changelings are all shooting their love (from where it came from since they were starving I don't know) at Chrysalis. And I thought the change of heart in "The Times are a Changeling" was too fast! There at least we saw a few ponies having second thoughts during the song. Here? Argh.

 

And I'm not happy with Thorax's new form. A big part of his appeal was his meek design; now he looks too regal and it's kind of a big disappointment. =(

 

I would have preferred if his holes simply filled in; the rainbow colors I could have even lived with if he kept his old form. But a complete redesign? Meh.

Watching Part 2 myself, I should have guessed that they would reveal how easy it was for Chrysalis to kidnap the Royal Family and Mane Six by revealing her throne to be made of a material that prohibits all magic but that of the Changelings. She must have sent drones wearing armor made of the stuff to capture the Royal Family and Mane Six as the armor would disable their magic, making kidnapping them that much easier. Plus, unlike with when Celestia was imprisoned in that cocoon in Part 2 of A Canterlot Wedding, I could see the difference between Celestia's imprisonment there, and her imprisonment here with Luna, Cadance, Shining Armor, Flurry Heart, and the Mane Six:

• Celestia was only in the cocoon for maybe a few minutes in A Canterlot Wedding before she was freed by Shining Armor and Cadance. She was fully awake and aware of her surroundings during that time.
• Here, she, along with Luna, Cadance, and the Mane Six, looked like they were struggling to remain conscious as they've been in those cocoons for probably several hours, if not at least a day. The fluid within must carry some sort of anesthetic that, given time to take effect, causes the pony within to slowly lose consciousness before they fall asleep into a state of peaceful suspended animation. Celestia and Luna were still semi-conscious, struggling against the anesthetic, but Cadance looked as if she was already out like a light. The only indication of life in her being her front hoof twitching every so often.

As soon as the cocoons broke open upon hitting the floor, after being severed from the ceiling when it was destroyed with Chrysalis' throne, the anesthetic-like effects wore off, and everypony regained full consciousness, though some were still a little groggy because of their struggle to remain awake.

 

Once Chrysalis reappeared, with her throne wrecked and it's power destroyed, it was not long before she was staring at some pretty pissed off Alicorn Princesses, Unicorn Prince, Element of Harmony bearers, and the Master of Chaos, their magic fully accessible again, and so wanting some payback for the Hell she put them through.

 

Though she got away, swearing revenge on Starlight, indicating she no longer carries a vendetta against the Royal Family or the Mane Six for the events of A Canterlot Wedding, without a Changeling Swarm, she's pretty much screwed on any future plans for attacking Equestria.
