general For those who live outside of the US: Does halloween is still a thing in your country?

Heya every pony, so, let me explain, I live in France and by walking down the street, or taking bus and train, I realise that halloween was kinda dead in my country, no decorations on house or shop, I didn't see anybody disguised, it's nearly 9:30 pm and I've seen nobody in the street, nopony ring my doorbell or anything. (MORE CANDY FOR ME !!)

So I was wondering if this is specific to France or if you too feel the same in your country ?

I feel sad for the kids of nowadays, halloween was a big thing when I was young (damn I feel old ^^) and it's a shame that nobody is celebrating it anymore...  :(

YUP... Same here in Australia. the thing is that nobody actually celebrates Halloween anymore here. But still I don't really like Halloween for religious reasons and I just don't get the point of it in the end...

Yup, same here. Halloween used to be very popular in the 1990's and 2000s here in Sweden but now in the 2010s people don't really give a shit anymore and there's not nearly as much halloween related stuff to buy in stores. When I was a kid you could buy high quality costumes and they would dedicate entire sections in toy stores for this. You could buy halloween makeup, fake blood, decorations etc. All the stores sold pumpkins. Nowadays all you can get is candy shaped like teeth and cheap plastic or foam masks at your local supermarket.. Same with trick or treaters, when I was little, people were dressing up all the time. Now I'm happy if I even see one kid dressed up. Halloween parties are still a thing among teens, though.

It makes me kind of sad cause as a horror fan, I love halloween.

PS. The french caused grammar error in the title is so cute :3

Halloween is growing here is a holiday.. but more for adults it seems. In my neighborhood very few kids go out anymore... unlike when I was a kid the street would be flooded with us. There are still a ton of kids doing it, but somehow it just seems on the decline from what i have noticed.

I know every year we get tons of warnings and threats about kids going out and such, so I don't know if that is the cause of some of it, or what.

Candy. It's all about candy. When you're young, candy is everything ! ^_^   I'm surprised that in Australia halloween is dying, I mean it's an Anglo-Saxon party no ?

If only so the stores wouldn't start stocking all the Christmas stuff in September.

I know SO WELL what you say !

Where I live it typically rains on halloween so it's rare to see kids walking around.  When I lived with my mum, people would drive their kids around since it was more of a country setting and houses were typically set far apart.

When I was growing up in the U.K.--back in the 1980s--Halloween was never a thing since it was an American celebration. A couple of places might have done something to celebrate it but mainly it just didn't play a part in children's lives. In recent years, Halloween has slowly come into the light as a day on the calender, yet I still think it hasn't done all that much.

Halloween is still going on here in texas..but because of all those candy poison/drug scares..and the clowns..and just violence in general not much really happens besides some tiny events in stores.

Yes. ^ Like I said above, I won't swear that is the cause of what seems to be the swindling amount of trick or treaters and the like, but it does make me wonder.

I know one of my co-workers has specifically stated she will not take her daughter out because of her fears of what some people are capable of doing. So it is just easier for her to go buy her candy at the store and get it from family members.

With all the threats if they are real or not pretty much takes all the fun out of it for kids. Just think a few years from now if it gets worse..there could be no real halloween.

Halloween seems to have been euthanized in my neck of the US... Not a pumpkin for blocks, not a single trick-or-treater...

"Well," said Pooh, "what I like best—" and then he had to stop and think. Because although Eating Honey was a very good thing to do, there was a moment just before you began to eat it which was better than when you were, but he didn't know what it was called.

Oh, like I said, it is growing for adults. Every year the money spent on it is just rises... so it is not going anywhere.. but I think it is slowly drifting away from a totally children's holiday like it used to be. There will probably be kids trick or treating for many many years to come, but you just probably won't see them out in suburban and city streets like you used to. I do think though they will find ways to keep expanding and celebrating it. Of course, when  say that, I mean the continual commercialization of it and not so much the making it safer and more enjoyable for the kids.

Halloween is definitely still a thing where I live. It's not something I care for at all, though.

It's still very much a thing here in California, by both adults and children. While New England has its Lovecraft Country, California has recently been the setting for many horror films and books and some places take advantage of that. Some people here can get very creative with their costumes.

^^^ Agree with the above post.

Halloween is popular in CA as anywhere else in the US. But some areas go more over the top then others. My neighborhood isn't big on trick-or-treating, but just a few blocks over its a bonanza of sweets and diabetes. I've seen some great costumes today too.

Halloween as a holiday still exists in Ireland, but I fear it is declining in popularity. Less and less kids go out to trick or treat, and those that do don't come home with buckets full of candy. Spaces in shops for Halloween decorations have gotten smaller in recent years. Pumpkins are still sold, but I wonder how much of them are purchased before the night rolls in. Don't get me wrong, Halloween has always had roots in Ireland, from when it was known as Samhain during Celtic times. When I was a kid, there were lots of trick or treaters going around, and the candy was plentiful. I'm not saying I know for sure considering I never celebrated Halloween; I used to be quite scared of the holiday. But something tells me that it has shrunken in popularity these days. Maybe it has, maybe it hasn't. I don't know for sure, but something tells me it has.

The stores here sell a lot of Halloween-themed merchandise but other than that, not really. The 31st of October isn't a part of the autumn holiday either. I haven't seen any trick or treaters or people in costumes in public this year. Some people might still host personal Halloween parties but that doesn't quite count.   I really like the idea of Halloween and trick or treating so in my opinion it's a big shame that people don't do that here.

Halloween in Germany is not an official Holiday, but it's growing here more and more. Last night, i opened the door for 3 groups of children, who where trick or treating.

Not alot, but there is some interest.

I have seen some Houses with Decoration but there werent any Kids that where going around to collect Candy.

Also, where i work, they have this weird Tradition to watch the Movie " The Nightmare before Christmas " every year before Halloween.

I mean, sure, its nice to have Traditions but i thought the Movie is more of a Christmas Movie since at the end of the Movie its Christmas...and also i dont even like that Movie, but what can you do.

Apparently its a Cult Classic and because of others, i have probably watched it already 4 times even though i dont like it one bit. XD

But yeah, apart of 1 or 2 Houses with Decoration, there wasnt really much going on on Halloween.

Or maybe the Parents got concerned to let their Kids out on Halloween, because of all this Horror Clowns lately.

Halloween's always been a big thing in Ireland. The kids get dressed up and go mental, the teens get illegal fireworks and make illegal bonfires and generally get in trouble, and adults go out to the pubs in fancy dress and get plastered.

Good times.

Personally I wish there was more focus on spooky costumes and deahtly things rather than just HUR HUR I'M A SLUTTY NURSE but hey, it's still fun.

Living in a suburban County just outside of a major city in the US... Yeah. It's absolutely a thing.

It occurred to me just this year how dangerous Halloween must be in cities... Perhaps it's less of a holiday for children??
