I'm not sure about the movie being made mostly for the toys just cause of the new characters. I think it will just turn out good no matter what.

 

New characters means new toys. Heck, we already have toys based on them. But that's just it: a toy commercial doesn't need to be bad or have zero effort put into its story.

Yes, the movie is going to be a huge toy commercial. You know, like every other thing in the Freindship is Magic franchise. Why are you so surprised? Considering that Hasbro is a TOY company, it kind of makes sense that they would sell TOYS.

Since I was actually pretty darn surprised that Hasbro made toys of the Equestria Girls movie series, I found that Hasbro will make a toy line about ANYTHING...even if it says "my little pony" and includes diseased skin toned humans. I have no diddly dang dong doubt that they will push as hard as possible to add as many new toys as possible. From what I understand, Hasbro makes a new pony toy takes it to management and they take it to the writers saying "here, make a character based on this". So I believe the toy idea tends to come first since thats what they make money on and then sort of make a story around that. That being the case i'm sure some of the new teased characters while probably unnecessary to the plot are there to get you to "collect them all".

Hasbro *is* a toy company, so everything they do basically reduces to a toy commercial. But I'm pretty sure that Hasbro will have implemented a good amount of quality assurance, after all, lot hinges on this movie.

The point is to see beyond the commercialism. See beyond the plot. (No jokes now) and see beyond the 2 dimensional issues..I to the vast cosmo that is..fandom.

Though FiM has more substance and depth beyond just saying "BUY OUR TOYS!!", which is more than I can say for Transformers, Power Rangers, and the last MLP Movie.

To be fair, they have killed off the EQG doll line permanently, with the minis being the new mainline. So they did realize those inaccurate ones were horrifying kids and not selling.
