food Grilled Cheese? Cheese Toastie?...Etc.

Not sure if someone has already created this but I got into a debate with some friends on whether you call it Grilled Cheese or Cheese Toastie. What it is is a piece of cheese melted in between bread that is grilled.

My question to you is how do you say it? Does anyone call it differently in your family or friends? Have you ever argued with them to say it your way? (I have xD)

I guess I like it toasty  . I can’t reemmeber the last time I had a grilled-cheese sandwich  .

They both suggest two different kind of dishes. If anything "grilled cheese" does not indicate the inclusion of bread.

I had never heard of calling it a "toastie" until fairly recently

This is the first time I've ever heard it called a toastie. It's always been grilled cheese where ever I've been.

A grill has ridges or slots that expose the food to the flame. A griddle is a flat cooking surface. Most people call them both grills. Technically, the food should be called a griddled cheese sandwich. 

As such, a toasted cheese sandwich would be more accurate, but in the US it is commonly called a grilled cheese sandwich. Perhaps toasted cheese is the metric version.

Probably becasue the bread is neither put in a toaster nor is the sandwich oven toasted in most cases. And grilled and griddled are close enough terms, so it matters little. I presume at one point the grilled cheese was indeed grilled. Or maybe griddled cheese  just never caught on in advertising.

Grilled Toastie. Huh. This is actually the first time I have heard it named as such.  I simply call it grilled cheese. Or chilled greese if I am feeling fancy.

As far as I know nearly everyone calls it a grilled cheese. However I have heard cheese toastie a few times in England. Subways over there serve a product by the same name which is sort of like an open-face grilled cheese
