Father Knows Beast (season 8 spoilers)

Okay so the episode list was finally revealed and Season 8 will premier on March 5th.

One of the episodes listed and summarized is one I'm looking toward to is "Father Knows Beast"

A Dragon comes to Ponyville and claims to be Spike's father, Spike is willing to do what ever his "dad" says in order to learn to be a "real" dragon, including leaving Ponyville.

A song in the episode is called " You just can't be a dragon here".

This episode has the potential to be one of the best Spike episodes. One question that has been asked for a while is who Spike's biological parents are.

Of course, this dragon could be a complete fake. Kind of like the old SpongeBob Squarepants episode "I'm With Stupid," in which two starfish show up to Patrick's house and claim to be his parents, but eventually realize they aren't his parents after all.

No matter what, though, I think this could potentially do an even better job than Dragon Quest of exploring the idea that, due to his upbringing, Spike is more like a pony than a dragon.

I can't wait to see how this turns out!

Guys, speaking as a fan fiction writer who's had his own view of who Spike's father is like, well...

If he does turn out to be like the summary says, I'm going to be very disappointed, as for a long time, I picture both dragon parents to be very kind unlike all the other dragons we've seen so far; no competitive nature, no greed. They loved each other as strongly as any other couple we've seen. But they had to give up Spike's egg, realizing that they were going to die and so would Spike unless they gave him his best chance. You can figure out the rest of my head fanon. Still even though it's going to break my head fanon, I'm still allowed to write it as an alternative universe, right? 

All that aside, I'm hoping that this episode is at least okay. Know what I mean?

To be honest, this is the very first and ONLY MLP episode where I'm NOT pleased. Usually, when a synopsis paints a bad picture of what's to come, I'm usually more curious than furious compared to the other fans who'd say this episode's going to ruin the show for me. This is the exception to the rule, where I'm definitely more furious than curious.

Still, when the day comes, I'm going to judge it in the context of the canon show over my silly little fanon. Understand my views?

No doubt Twilight is going to be the most affected given how she has the strongest connection with Spike. Rarity might feel something given how Spike was always pining for her attention what with his obvious crush on her. As for the others, I'm not entirely sure what their reactions would be.

My headcanon is that Spike's father was a guard for a Dragon Lord, while his mother was a wealthy aristocrat. I just kind of like inter-class romance. 

Also, his father looks like an adult version of G1 Spike.

With this episode being dangerously close to the finale where Tirek appears, it makes me believe that in this episode, Spike's gonna wonder how he ended up at Celestia's school, and of course Tirek might be the one to answer that! Which could connect this episode with the finale to a respect!

I have a bad feeling about this episode. In my opinion, Spike has to have no biological parents. Twilight is his family and I want it too stay it that way, except of course if it would be a jaw dropping episode.

Its not like dragons cant lay more than 1 egg so i bet Spike has siblings, what makes his parents search for this specific egg for years is unknown.

Yeah, Twilight's the mom since she hatched the egg! Who's the dad though? That's the real question! The closest male figure who protected the egg and kept it safe from harm, and had Celestia hold onto it until it's able to hatch?

I met Spike's very kind dragon parents who were dying, meaning Spike's egg would have perished had they not given the egg to me, who would give to Celestia before Filly Twilight's entrance exam. And the rest would be history.

But in the show's canon, I do genuinely want to know what will be revealed in the episode, even if I won't like what we'll see.

Yeah, you might want to wait and see if Spike's parents are nice but misguided (presuming they talk about his mom at all, even) or if they're total jerks. If they are nice, it would still be an AU story (unless they somehow totally skip over how Celestia got his egg.... <_<) but at least you could match their personalities up with one another.

In fact, your story could be still in-universe if Spike's parents aren't the real deals and this whole thing turns out to be a wild goose chase....

Which I hope it isn't, I have wanted Spikes parents for a long time, I have my theories but I will gladly cast them aside for a show explanation of one of the biggest mysteries of the series.

Indeed. Cheating us out of real answers would be very disappointing. In my best-case scenario we get the answers we've been waiting for and Spike's biological family is willing to move nearby so he doesn't have to choose between anyone. That's probably asking a lot, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Spike making the choice would be something very mature though.
