For in-universe answer, me (unicorn Will Guide) and my Changeling met in the EverFree Forest. He was dying; I was losing my memories and was in a daze. Still I wanted to help the poor creature.

I made a wish and the Changeling became part of me, even though I would forget about him for a while until Flurry Heart's Crystalling.
