general media Kinning fictional characters?

So like, there's this thing were people "kin" fictional characters, which means they feel a strong connection to the character and/or feel parshily or fully that they are the character. For example I kin Spinel from the Steven Universe movie, cause like, I feel like a part of me is her. Same thing with Spike, and (sometimes) Sunset Shimmer. But like, enough about me. Point is, what do you feel about kinning? Is it valid or is just something that confused people do? Lemme know your thoughts.

No, at least I don;t think so. While I could kind-of imagine myself as Konata Izumi or Twilight Sparkle, I would be quite different from both of them. A TV show or movie about someone like me would be boring to watch, that's why I don't think there are characters like me in fiction, though Konata comes rather close.

not only is it ok, they are specifically designed to be relatable it's a big part of character design and storrytelling, that's why shows have a wide variety of different personalities, and that's also why sometimes the protagonists seem a bit too bland and common compared to the supporting cast(especially in anime) it's so you can project yourself in them while watching

I don't particularly find kinning myself with a fictional character really in conformity with my view of being my own person, BUT... I definitely do find myself to have some aspects that make me have a sort of commonality with certain fictional characters. Angel Dust... :P Though if I'm being entirely loyal to my own personality, I feel a lot in common with Patricia Tannis from the Borderlands games. Well if she liked bacon, didn't hate music, and if she was a bit less exaggerated.~

Wow, these comments make me feel normal and I love that.

Normal is no fun. You are unique and that's much cooler!

Also Perl wouldn't want it any other way :twi:

Personally, I don't really care that much. It gets annoying when the "kins" get all possessive of the character. If you do this, don't get mad when people give you shit for it. I wonder how these people would be if said character for their "connection" never existed.

People who behave like that are always frowned down upon the sensible members of the kin community. Mostly because it gives the community a bad name making us look like immature twits. In fact we try to distance ourselves from such people. And I’m pretty sure they’d just be people with out a kin.

I'm not completely sure if I'm understanding this correctly...? But if I am (meaning, defending said character) I'd have to go with Alex Russo from Wizards of Waverly Place. (Not to @SpittyPie2005's surprise) and Eleanor Shellstrop from The Good Place.

Plus many characters from various online WebToons.

I'm not sure I understand. I think I could vibe with a character or empathize but not be them ever. I could have a version of myself impersonate or "summoning" them but it will never be them, just me putting in their place for my own perspective. Like an actor.
