First off, I absolutely adored watching the Mane Six in the opening scene, it was a lovely gesture. The 2D animation used there was gorgeous... Too bad that scene ended the way it did, though.

I agree it was so lovely, and it ending like that kinda killed the scene, though it was still great up to that point.

For me I liked the movie.  I don't have much to say though, but what I mostly didn't like was all the unanswered questions it left us with.

Favorite character was Zipp Storm, followed by Hitch.

Well, the Tirek/Cozy Glow/Chrysalis angle is something they could pick up on in G-5 if they wanted to.

I thought the animation was pretty good, and the comedy was absolutely terrific and up to G-4's standards, if not surpassing them.

What stood out to me was the ending; I've heard it called "rushed", and that might be accurate.  But what I really didn't like was how, out of nowhere, Sunny gives a speech about how bringing ponies together was the real magic---and then the crystals turn out to be magic after all.  I felt like it jerked me around; if the crystals had really unleashed magic, it would've been more satisfying, but I had a separate thread with what I considered to be an even more satisfying way of handling it!

Okay wow this was way beyond my expectations, it was absolutely perfect I loved the characters the settings. The animation was beautiful and detailed, truly it was a wonderful movie with such a wonderful potential. The emocorns were also very nice touch, not to mention so many references I found myself smiling the entire time. Indeed I loved the plot, ancient Equestria and how lovely this movie was. Yet that's why I have to say that while I loved the movie and yes the ending the alicornization was a bit of well it took the movie from the cute nods to the fandom I loved and the great storyline and characters that reminded me oh wait we must also sell more toys. Somehow there was a need for that, I mean with all these new characters and new settings yet they had to have her become a alicorn begs to question why not the others too. That said, it was a bit of a you know not really how you'd have thought the story would lead to. I knew it would happen in the movie, knowing hasbro but I suppose I thought that maybe they'd wait with the alicornization in the coming episodes or seasons perhaps but that must mean it is only the movie. Regardless, the movie was perfect in my mind I really loved the vibrant characters the animation was beautiful and the settings truly magical and befitting of my little pony. Truly it felt like the beloved fourth generation and to that I celebrate I am truly excited for this. What more can I say but huzzah! I loved this movie and if there will be more seasons then it'll be very interesting and you can count on me watching it.

To explain, I was not sure what really this movie would be like I avoided all spoilers even the trailers. Putting it mildly my expectations were somewhat between it being very children show like and trying to sell toys. Yet honestly that was more of a journey and I am glad that hasbro made this movie. Do I prefer the fourth generation animation, well I do and always will be and I prefer fourth generation over the fifth. However that's not to say I'm not very excited of it. So huzzah! Splendid, I'm rather fond of the movie I must say and excited for what's to come of the new generation of ponies!

And the story... This is perhaps the biggest misstep. I know they've got the upcoming series to flesh some of this out, but they should've explained how Equestria became the way it was. We were just thrust into this new iteration without any explanation and it felt so jarring. It's like the plot was missing a massive piece that would bring everything together rather than leave us with questions that currently have no answers to them.

I really don't mind the lack of explanation. I imagine they'd prefer to lay out the mystery behind why society became so separated piece by piece over the course of the coming show. Besides, the less they rely on past lore and history from its predessor, the better; G5 shouldn't be shackled to rely on events of the previous gen.

Not gonna post a treatise on this film, but it actually did what I wanted it to do. I wanted cute chuckle worthy friendship type pony, with a catchy song or two. I legitimately laughed throughout it, harder than I expected. I actually laughed for a minute straight over the forbidden word due to an inside joke that only my closest friends would understand.

So yeah, I really liked it.

I'll basically repost what I said in another thread: I liked it! Lots of good moments, funniness, heartfelt scenes. ...but I just wanted there to be more, too.

Maybe I set my expectations too high, wanting to see somethhing like some plot that would tie into the past, a bigger villainous presence... and a definitive reason why magic disappeared and ponies became driven with fear. And the resolution was a weeee bit cop-out-y. (we just needed the love!)

The villain in this wasn't the absolute most threatening, but it served the purpose. I think the movie was supposed to be lighter than the last movie. Plus Sprout's style is more of an petulant power hungry maniac than a gigantic threat. He's even treated comically as a villain.

One of the things I really was curious about was what Hitch's dynamic with the rest of the cast would be. Turns out he was chasing after Sunny because she's run off with Izzy and is now a fugitive, and he has to bring her in. But after the big performance, the five are thrust together and stay as the group, and Hitch starts to see things differently about the others, then really gets cemented into the cast.

I do feel like this is the start of something that will develop more, for sure.

Doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it though! Maybe we'll see more goings on in the followup series.

So I'm reading things, and realizing that yes, Hitch was (initially) the more distrustful of other pony types the group, which I was actually a bit bummed out about at first, but what with the general earth pony raising style, it was to be expected. Having all these reservations about the other pony types. But it wasn't a severe bigotedness, not nearly as strong as Sprout, and he sheds all of that after Sunny shows that the unicorns and pegasi don't look like "enemies". And comes to sit down with them at the campfire.

I just want to see more of him! (And the others!)

EDIT: I'm going to have to watch this again and really try to take it in again.

the question is WHO PLANTED THE SEEDS OF DISCORD?.....

discord....:okiedokieloki:

why did distrust spread acroSS ponydom!?

unicorn culture is freaking weird!!!

"bing bong!?"

who taught them that!?

DISCORD!!!!

and the lost of magic happened just recently too! like when the new heroes where maybe just filly's....somewhere in their generation. there's a high chance that Izzy as a filly had used magic... it's that early .....so ......

why is there no windigo?

or maybe the hate wasn't wide spread yet.......

wait a minute..... the final scene.... it was starting to get cloudy......wait a minute..... maybe we didn't noticed it.... but the windigoes are about to come out!?

Spoiler

I actually watched it with moderately high expectations from the trailer and clips and the movie didn't disappoint. The Mane Five nailed it and I think that they have potential in their character arcs. The songs were decent. The pacing was a bit fast, but I suppose they wanted to keep it at the 90 minutes standard. However, the ending felt really rough and sent mixed messages. That is like the only "issue" I had with it.
