Mane 7?

So, I was lurking on groupie.co and someone's status was:

 

"Expecting a new pony in the Mane 6. Preferably male."

 

Would you guys want a new pony in the Mane Six? Thoughts?

 

Why would it be male? That would ruin the entire concept of the show being for everything a girl can be can be capable of. That's what the main six represent. I personally am really curious also what their gonna do to balance the main six, but as they always say...

I wouldn't mind if a male character was added. Not that he has to become the wilder of the secret 7th element of harmony or anything, but become a main reoccuring character. Some of my favorite cartoons, like Hey Arnold and Tiny Toons, have a decent male to female ratio and I always enjoyed that aspect. I think it helps to show that gender only means so much.

 

Or can't we just have Discord hang out with the mane 6 from time to time?

Adding another pony to the main 6 just doesn't fit into the Equation.

 

Plus, although it would make things more fun in adventures, it'll cause a clash between all of the mane 6 and get jealous over that Male Pony, if he's cute of course.

I don't there is a reason to have a Mane 7 because, what would be the point of having 7 main characters. The thing is, I think that adding a male character would be cool. But I would rather have a background pony version of the Mane 6 instead of the Mane 7.

I don't think that would be a good idea. 99 times out of 100, this kind of idea always ends up for the worst.

 

Besides, there's already a male 7th member of the group.

That wouldn't work because they would have to represent an Element of Harmony, and it's not like Equestria can suddenly bring a new one into the mix.

Mane Six just seems to have more of a ring to it to me.

 

That and if you were going to make a Mane 7, just make Spike that 7th memeber. He's had probably the most screentime out of any supporting character, he's left an impression on each of the mane six, and he did play a role in saving the Crystal Empire. I at one point had a dream that Spike should be a a secret 7th Element of Harmony but no. I wouldn't work. Especially since the Elements and what they represent are pretty much perfect the way they are now.

I always thought Spike was the 7th main chatacter, then the CMC. Adding somepony new, especially if their male, just seems like a cop out too me.

 

Most of the time adding in a new main character doesn't end well.

I don’t want that to happen. There is literally no reason to expand the mane character group when there is more opportunity to give episodes to secondary characters or even background characters such as Octavia. It would not make sense but if they did then it would have to be Trixie perhaps even though I think she should have been turned to stone. Oh, and no males either. Sure, it would be wise to show that males can be friends with females but keep it to a special episode, not as an added character.

I'd rather they just recognize Spike as one of the mane 6(to make it 7) than introduce someone new especially if it's just for the sake of having a mane male character

If anything, they should make a 2nd Mane six with background ponies like BonBon, Lyra, Vinyl, Octavia, Derpy, and Dr. Whooves. But don't add anypony to the current Mane Six we already have.

When a new main character is added to a series, it's because the writers and/or the fans think the current cast is getting too run down and stale. It's almost always a sign of the beginning of the end.

 

Personally I can't imagine a seventh mane pony that would feel like she belongs. The existing six all have distinct personalities that work so well together that any new pony would never really fit in.

Which would be funny at first.  2-3 episodes later i'd likely find him just as annoying LOL.

I think your kidding yourself that anyone would turn the tv off if this happened LOL.  That fans would be like "Nope not watching this."

I've had the head canon ponies from back in the day were more cruel, or at least crass.  they were brutal times.

 

between discord, sombre, nightmare moon, celestail showing up and likely bringing harmoney between the pony tribes,

it took some time to get from

I wouldn't want to throw a male main character into the mix because he would just feel so token. Like he was just there for the sake of diversity. I know spike is male, but he's also a dragon, so it doesn't feel like he's just the token boy. I like shows where girls and boys are friends without ever even thinking of shipping, but if they were going to do it with this show, they would have had to have done it in the beginning and made two or three of the main six stallions. For me the mix has to be either all boys, all girls or an equal or close to equal mix. But having a token boy/girl never feels right.

This show is made for girls. The mane six are, as Lauren Faust said from the beginning, meant to show little girls that there isn't just one right way to be a girl.
