Came here to post Dire Straits. I don't really like the 80's music for the most part: too much synth etc. (70's are where it's at!) But Dire Straits is one of the few 80's bands that I really like. Mark Knopfler is really an amazing guitarist!

This my favorite 80's song, it is from a classic 80's movie called Breakfast Club. I watched the movie one Sunday morning months back because I figured that I had heard of it and wanted something to watch so I figured I would give it a shot. Seeing the movie made me appreciate the song all the more because of the meaning behind both it and the movie. It is about being yourself, not giving a damn what others think and being an individual.

The 80s had probably some of the best sounds, especially from bands like Led Zeppelin and others. 

 

However, Motown was near it's pinacle, since the arrival of synths.
