Reporting has been made easier!

In direct response to user feedback, the process for submitting reports on posts and topics has now been dramatically improved. The old method for submitting a report required waiting for the report page to load up and having to type in a reason for making the report. The new method for submitting a report is completely different.

 

 

As you can see, the new report form has been streamlined. When you click the report button, this form will load seamlessly beneath the post or topic that you are reporting. No more waiting for a report page to load. The new report form also includes a number of presets. By using a preset, you no longer need to think of something to type when reporting - just click and submit. (Though you will still be required to enter details if you select “Other”.)

 

Here on MLP Forums, over 3,000 new posts are created each day. The moderators do their best to keep an eye on things, but, sometimes, things slip through the net. That's where you come in. We created this streamlined report form to make it easier for members to help out the moderation staff. If you are a member and you see something questionable, then you should report it - it's easy and it helps.

 

Don't start reporting every post on the forum yet though. If you have not already read it, then you may want to check out our guide on reporting. That guide is written by our very own Klopp, and by reading it you earn your purple belt in reportjitsu. If you have questions regarding the report presets, then read this announcement for the new warning system. That announcement contains pretty good descriptions for most of the presets.

 

Now, I'm sure that you are in a hurry to test out the new form. Feel free to report this announcement post to see how things work.

Thanks, Lucius Fox. It gets pretty annoying having to type out "OMG DIS GAI IS BYPASSING TEH CHARACTER LIMIT" every single time I come across such an occurrence.

I think this is a fabulous modification to reporting ^^ A simple pop up that's both fast and easy to use. Also, nice category selections for presets.

I have a question, though: With 'duplicate content', shouldn't you mention you'd like people to give link(s) to the sister duplicate topic in question, in the 'provide more details' bar? Not nice to make the staff hunt for the other topic.

Ehhhhhhh.... backseat moderating rubs me the wrong way. It sounds weird and doesn't quite fit. What about something like "memberating," where regular members are trying to act as moderators. Or just something else that conveys the same meaning besides "backseat moderating." It just... I don't know. What's the deal with that?

Doesn't load a new page, has a drop-down menu for quick-reporting of common things that don't need much explanation, and overall makes the process quicker. Hopefully will make people who didn't report rule-breaking posts in the past (because it was complicated) start doing so now.
