Well, there would be a huge fuss about what to do about it. Then being as humans dislike anything we don't understand, they will basically tell everyone a hostile alien race has been discovered.

It would affect me because I would try to get in league with those scientists. With my newly acquired position I would either continue to observe equestria and or pull a PInkie Pie and attempt to break the 4th wall.

I would be astounded at first, but I think a means to get there would be a bad idea. I think some humans, brony and non brony alike, wouldn't be able to handle it or conduct themselves properly around ponies and would inevitably (if you'll excuse the language) fuck shit up.

A window to Equestria? That's neat. Hasbro will have their pants set on fire, all bronies will sell both of their kidneys just for a single glance to the dreamland, and the discovering scientist would be rich as hell

 

But the question we should ask is this: can the ponies look into our world? Can they walk through the barrier unharmed?

Simple, if we find out Equestria exists, some scientists will then start working on a way to get here. Humans will then 'make peace' with ponies and start searching Equestria for any resources they could use. Celestia will not like this and banish the humans because we're not all goody goody like ponies and because we're taking resources from Equestria for our own personal gain. Then the USA will come and 'restore the peace' and 'set up a democracy'. Equestria will turn into the pony Afghanistan with rebel ponies always fighting against the US soldiers and will be branded as 'rainbow terrorists'.

 

They will later link up with the Bronies who join them in an epic war. Which will be ultimately won when the Mane 6 come and use the Elements of Harmony to banish the humans and close the portal between our two worlds. Although all Bronies will still be allowed to come into Equestria.
